"Roger will continue till board meeting in September. Whether he will get a fresh term depends on what members and other powerful people associated with the BCCI decide," a board source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
The BCCI will come under the purview of National Sports Bill but the Right To Information (RTI) Act won't be applicable to the country's richest sporting body which doesn't take any grant from the government.
The BCCI's legal team is still studying the fine print of the bill.

"The national sports bill has just been passed, so, we have some time to study it and engage in proper discussion before taking any decision," the source said.
"There are other points to discuss in the bill for sure, and all the stakeholders, including senior players and coaching staff, will be consulted, particularly because cricket will be played at the 2028 Olympics," he added.
Binny was appointed BCCI president in October 2022, replacing former India captain Sourav Ganguly.

Cognizant to roll out pay hikes for 80% employees from November 1
IT services firm Cognizant, during its second quarter earnings call on Thursday, said that 80 per cent of its eligible employees will receive salary hikes, effective November 1. According to a PTI report, the company plans to award merit-based salary hikes to a major chunk of its employees in the second half of 2025. A company spokesperson told PTI that these hikes will be delivered up to the Senior Associate levels. The increase will vary depending on the employee's individual performance and the country. The pay hikes for consistent high performers is likely to be in higher single digits in India, whereas top performers are expected to get the highest raise, the spokesperson said. "These increases will be delivered up to, and including, the Senior Associate levels. The amount of these increases will vary depending on individual performance rating and country," a Cognizant spokesperson said on Thursday. In March this year, Cognizant paid one of the highest bonuses to most of its associates in three years. The bonuses were to the tune of 85-115 per cent. IT majors tread cautiously Cognizant's move follows a similar announcement by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which recently said it will be providing salary hikes to most of its employees from September 1. As reported earlier by Business Standard, TCS was the first company to stall hikes in April because of an unfavourable and uncertain macroeconomic environment. According to media reports, Cognizant had also postponed employee appraisals for a second time in March in an attempt to curb attrition. The implementation was expected in August. Indian IT firms under strain Indian IT services companies are grappling with a sluggish global economy, geopolitical tensions, and tariff concerns, prompting delays in appraisals and workforce reductions. Last month, TCS announced one of its biggest layoffs, letting go of about 2 per cent or 12,260 employees of its 613,069 global workforce. The move, aimed at making the company more agile, marks only the second large-scale layoff in TCS's history. The previous one was in 2012, when about 2,500 employees were dismissed for underperformance.

When will India, China resume direct flights? IndiGo CEO says ‘when both countries...'
IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers on Wednesday stated that the airline is ready to resume direct flights between India and China. This comes a day after PTI reported that the two countries are in an advanced stage of talks to restart direct air connectivity soon. Elbers noted that IndiGo operated daily flights on India-China routes before the COVID-19 pandemic. "The airline stands ready to resume these services as soon as bilateral arrangements between the two countries allow," he said in a statement on Wednesday. Elbers also said that guided by its entrepreneurial spirit, the airline remains committed to identifying and pursuing commercially viable opportunities. IndiGo was operating daily flights from Delhi to Chengdu till February 6, 2020, and from Kolkata to Guangzhou till February 1, 2020. "IndiGo operated daily flights between India and China prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. The airline stands ready to resume these services as soon as bilateral arrangements between the two countries allow," IndiGo Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers told NDTV Profit in an emailed statement. Air India also had flights from Delhi to Shanghai, and those were also suspended in early 2020. On January 27 this year, India and China in principle agreed to resume direct air services between the two countries as part of certain people-centric steps to "stabilise and rebuild" the bilateral ties. Diplomatic and economic ties between India and China deteriorated following the Galwan Valley clash in 2020 between their armed forces. Relations remained tense for nearly four years, until October 2024, when both countries reached an agreement on patrolling protocols along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). India and China had initially agreed in January to resume direct flights. However, the plan stalled after relations cooled again amid India's limited conflict with Pakistan. The airline stands ready to resume these services as soon as bilateral arrangements between the two countries allow. The two sides revisited the proposal in June, announcing intentions to restart air connectivity, though no concrete progress was made at the time. (With inputs from agencies)

Aussie Maxwell sharpening his skills to bowl in powerplays during 2026 T20 World Cup
Cairns (Australia), Aug 14 (PTI) With an eye on next year's T20 World Cup in the Indian subcontinent, charismatic Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is sharpening his spin-bowling skills to become more potent in the powerplay overs, given that he might need to bowl with the new ball on spinner-friendly pitches. The 2026 T20 World Cup will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka with the spin-bowling all-rounder, if fully fit, likely to be a part of the Australian side as it aims to reclaim the trophy it last won in 2021. Maxwell has been a regular in the Indian Premier League, donning several jerseys with his most successful stints coming for Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings, where he has shone as a devastating batter with the ability to turn the game decisively with the ball. Despite his bowling prowess, Maxwell has bowled only five powerplay overs in total in the shortest format between the 2022 T20 World Cup and the ongoing home series against South Africa. But the 36-year-old feels he could come in handy in powerplay overs during the T20 World Cup as the new ball grips the subcontinent's wickets better. "I think in the subcontinent you might be able to get a little bit more out of it (wicket) as a spinner early on," Maxwell was quoted as saying by "Especially that new ball, the hard seam, being able to grip on those dry surfaces. So it might be something we think about heading forward," he added. He took two wickets in the second T20I against South Africa in Darwin, including that of skipper Aiden Markram in the fifth powerplay over. "I love getting wickets. It's very surprising anytime I get anyone out. I'm there to do a job in the powerplay and I'm trying to execute that as well as I can," he said. Apart from his bowling, Maxwell has been comfortable playing at any position depending upon the team's requirement. "I've been a bit of the shuffler around the order, up and down. I'm filling holes at the moment. Even during the West Indies series, trying to combat Akeal Hosein (by) going up the top, this series (against South Africa) going a little bit lower, trying to manage that back end (of the innings). "(I'm) trying to play whatever role is needed for me in this side and just try and be as adaptable as possible." he added.
