Erick Fedde, Cardinals SP (Rostered: 10.8%)
The Cardinals picked up Erick Fedde at the MLB trade deadline last year, but did not make the playoffs. Fedde was not the reason why, with a 3.72 ERA in ten starts. As the Redbirds continue to surprise, Fedde continues to deal. Even after a miserable start against the Cubs, he has a 4.11 ERA. With two starts on the table this week against the Pirates and Cubs, Fedde should be on your fantasy baseball team.

The Cardinals could sell at the MLB trade deadline if they slip in July. And if they do, Fedde could be on the move again. That could benefit your team if you keep him beyond a solid streaming option this week. If he were on a better offensive team, those wins could shoot up and make him a better fantasy option.
Chase Burns, Cincinnati SP (Rostered: 40.2%)
The number two overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft made his debut with the Reds on Tuesday against the Yankees. His first time through the order was dominant, with seven strikeouts early. While the Bombers got to him late, there is a lot of promise in his electric right arm. Your fantasy baseball team could use a pitcher like Burnes, especially if you are in a keeper league.
Burnes could make two starts this week, with his turn in the rotation coming up on Monday against Boston. The Reds' front office said they called him up because they are looking to win and plan on keeping him up. His high velocity and elite off-speed stuff could make him an asset for Cincy and your team.

Nick Kurtz, Athletics 1b (Rostered: 19.5%)
Another 2024 draft pick, Nick Kurtz, has been raking for the Athletics lately. He has 11 homers in 42 games, along with a solid .255 batting average. If you have a hole at first base, which is possible with some poor performances, Kurtz could be your guy.
The Athletics have a lot of young talent on their team and could be building another playoff core for the future. They should be on every fantasy baseball player's radar due to their talent at different positions. Kurtz is that guy at first base, mashing homers at just 22 years old and showing no signs of slowing down.
Jackson Holliday, Baltimore 2b (Rostered: 42.2%)
The Orioles have been horrendous so far this year, but they have to be pleased with what they are seeing from Jackson Holliday. He was bad when he first came to the majors last year, with a .565 OPS in 60 games. This year, STATS. That production from a poor offensive position is perfect for your fantasy baseball lineup.

With Adley Rutschman on the injured list and other players struggling, Holliday will remain high in the lineup. That could lead to less advantageous matchups from bullpens and big spots. If he continues his recent hot stretch, that should be no problem.
Chandler Simpson, Tampa Bay OF (Rostered: 10.5%)
There is no reason for fantasy baseball category players not to pick up Chandler Simpson. He is back with the pro club and should continue his dominance on the basepaths immediately. That gives you a massive advantage in the stolen base category, and he was hitting for average when he went down as well. The Rays have nearly caught up to the Yankees in the AL East, and Simpson could help put them over the edge.
Simpson is not going to add much to your home run or RBI categories, but fantasy baseball matchups can be won in any category. He could be a generational base stealer if he can stay with the big club. You should bet on that with your waiver wire pickup this week.

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams appears to be more and more comfortable with his new head coach Ben Johnson by the day. Williams looked quite impressive in the short showing, completing 6-of-10 passes for 107 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions or sacks. Speaking to the media after the game, Williams jokingly complimented his head coach for being "calmer" during the game in comparison to how he is at practice. 'He's a lot more calmer on game day in the mic than he is in practice with me," Williams said. "It's great. It's exciting to be sitting there, having the headpiece in my ear right after I had however many plays I had, being able to listen to him encourage the guys. I think there was a moment where we were going for it on fourth down or something like that and something happened the play before where we got the call back and we ended up lining up. He was like, 'We're going to go get this right here.' "It's just small notes like that, that are encouraging in the moment. It's something that I don't know if he knows and he's conscious of it, but it's important to us QBs when we're out there having those small notes. He's a lot calmer on game days in the mic and that's a small note.' There was no secret that Johnson was going to come in and apply pressure to Williams quickly in order to have the young quarterback understand his offense in their first year together. The quicker that Williams can pick up the offense, the quicker the team can erase the memory of their 5-12 season last year and put more wins on the board this year while their quarterback grows and develops to the next level. High school sports participation rises nationally thanks to assist from girls flag football
The addition of girls flag football is helping fuel rising participation in high school sports nationally, with a record 8,260,891 boys and girls having participated in the last school year, according to the annual survey from the National Federation of State High School Assns. released on Monday. There were 68,847 girls playing flag football, a 60% increase from the previous year. Girls sports led the increases, including wrestling rising 15%. Football remains the most popular boys sports at 1,001,039. Track and field tops girls sports at 513,808. Girls flag football has been rising in popularity in Southern California. Joe Flacco was obvious QB1 pick, but plenty still needs to be settled in Browns' QB room
There were attempts to manufacture some drama over the Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback decision, but it was the exact outcome we've all known for months. Joe Flacco is the starter. No surprise at all. Thankfully, there's still plenty of actual drama to be sorted out in the Browns' quarterback room. Flacco will start in Week 1 but one look at an absolutely brutal six-game stretch to start the season indicates that it might not be a long-term solution. Cleveland is very likely to use more than one quarterback this season. But due to injuries and an odd four-man derby at quarterback, which was created when the team made the unconventional decision to draft two quarterbacks in the middle rounds, it's uncertain what the order will be behind Flacco. And there's just one more preseason game to go. Joe Flacco expected to play Saturday The Browns have indicated they plan to play Flacco some in the preseason finale. Stefanski wants to use this week to simulate a regular-season week, and to do that he wanted his quarterback in place. Not that anyone paying attention thought it would be anyone but Flacco. So Flacco will play some, but presumably not too much. That means there will be some evaluation time for Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, though that's complicated too. Pickett hasn't played yet in the preseason due to a hamstring injury, but he did practice last week and presumably will be ready to play by Saturday. Sanders' status is unknown after he suffered an oblique injury in warmups before a joint practice last Wednesday. Gabriel, who missed the first preseason game, got the start with Sanders sitting last week. So Flacco hasn't played yet because he was the veteran starter who didn't need preseason reps in the first two games, Pickett hasn't played at all due to injury, Gabriel missed one game and Sanders missed one game. That makes the final decisions on the depth chart a little more challenging. Who will be Browns' backup? From all accounts, the depth chart at Browns camp has been fairly static. Flacco has been treated as the starter. Pickett has missed a lot of camp but there's no indication he's not second in line. Gabriel has been third and, even after a very good showing in Cleveland's first preseason game, Sanders has been fourth. That doesn't mean that is Stefanski's final answer on the depth chart. Gabriel played well last week aside from one pick-6, showing a good understanding of the offense and delivering passes accurately. Sanders' talent level was well above his status as a fifth-round pick, and he showed it in his one preseason game. The Browns will first need to decide how many quarterbacks to keep. It's very rare for a team to keep four, but it's an unusual situation. It doesn't seem likely a team would trade for Pickett, Flacco is already named the starter and trading Gabriel or Sanders a few months after trading them seems unlikely. Then, if the Browns do keep four, Stefanski has to order them. If Flacco gets benched, that's when the order will matter. And if Pickett is up next, the order between Gabriel and Sanders will matter if he gets benched later in the season. Perhaps some of that gets settled in Saturday's preseason finale. We know Flacco will be the Browns' starter to begin the season. The rest still seems unsettled.
