Akhilesh promises ₹3K per month to poor women if voted to power in UP
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday announced if his party formed a government in Uttar Pradesh in 2027, it would give ₹ 3,000 per month to poor women under the Stree Samman Samriddhi Yojana. Samajwadi Party chief was addressing a press conference in Lucknow on June 22. (HT file)
Addressing a press conference after a meeting with SP Mahila Sabha at party headquarters here, he claimed: 'Today women are not safe in the BJP government. Incidents of crime against sisters and daughters are happening continuously. The government's zero tolerance policy towards law and order and crime against women has become zero. Women are being exploited in the BJP government.'
'The BJP government has either changed the names of all the schemes started by the SP government for women or ruined them. As soon as the SP government is formed, the 1090 service created for women's safety will be strengthened further. Stree Samriddhi Samman Yojana for women will be implemented in the state and like the Samajwadi pension scheme, women will be given ₹ 3,000 per month,' Yadav said.
The SP chief alleged that the Election Commission is working under the pressure of the BJP. 'In the Kundarki by-election, it was seen that some people in uniform and some in civvies stopped voters from casting their votes,' he further alleged.
On the issue of foreign policy and the ongoing war situation in Iran and Israel, Yadav said, 'The government should clarify its stand on foreign policy. A friend is recognised in bad times. Not standing with the one who has always supported you in bad times is a betrayal.'

Voter fraud row: Rahul Gandhi warns of political unrest ahead of Bihar polls, says ‘fire starting in…'
Voter fraud row: Rahul Gandhi warns of political unrest ahead of Bihar polls, says 'fire starting in…' Addressing a presser during his ongoing 'Voter Adhikar Yatra', Rahul Gandhi claimed that the ruling BJP was plotting to "steal" elections in Bihar, West Bengal and Assam by resorting to 'vote chori' (vote theft). Advertisement Rahul Gandhi speaks during a discussion of the Members of the INDIA alliance with INDIA alliance Vice-Presidential nominee, former Supreme Court Judge B. Sudershan Reddy in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, in New Delhi on Wednesday. (ANI Photo) Voter Fraud Row: Amid the ongoing row over voter fraud allegations and irregularities in the Bihar Special Intensive Review (SIR), Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday warned of political unrest emerging in the state ahead of the upcoming Bihar assembly elections. Addressing a presser, Rahul Gandhi claimed that the ruling BJP was plotting to 'steal' elections in Bihar, West Bengal and Assam by resorting to 'vote chori' (vote theft). Advertisement === 'I can see, there is a fire that is starting in Bihar. I am inviting all the senior leaders to come and see this fire because it cannot be stopped. A 4-year-old child in Bihar is shouting 'vote chor', 'vote chor'… They stole the Maharashtra, Haryana (elections)… They will steal elections in Bihar, West Bengal, and Assam. But now it seems that fire has spread in Bihar… You can see that there is a storm…' the Leader of Oppostion (LoP) in Lok Sabha said. Backing Congress leader KC Venugopal, Rahul Gandhi stated that he had not only crafted a vision of social justice for Telangana but had also worked on the state census, further emphasising the fact that the Constitution had the final answer to every legal conversation. Advertisement === 'There is a fight going on between those that are attacking the Constitution and those that are defending the Constitution… Every single party has unanimously supported Reddy ji. He worked on the Telangana caste census, helped craft a vision of social justice for Telangana. As I was thinking what to say, I happened to look inside his pocket. And inside his pocket, there was the Constitution of India,' He is carrying the Constitution of India with him everywhere… After about five minutes, he said to me, Rahul, I have been carrying the constitution in my pocket for 52 years… He said, because, in any legal conversation, the Constitution has the final answer…' he said. On the conflicts taking place in the Parliament on the new bills introduced by the BJP-led NDA government, Gandhi claimed that India was heading back to medieval times when the king could remove anyone on their own will, further stating despite being a democracy, there was no concept of what an elected person was. 'There is a lot of action going on about the new Bill that the BJP is proposing. We are going back to medieval times when the king could just remove anybody at will. There's no concept of what an elected person is. He doesn't like your face, so he tells ED to put a case, and then a democratically elected person is wiped out within 30 days. Also, let's not forget why we are electing a new Vice President. Just yesterday I was having a conversation with somebody and I said, you know, where is the old vice president gone? He's gone…' the Congress leader said. Rahul Gandhi also claimed that the there was a 'big story' behind resignation of the former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, and asked why the former VP had gone silent. 'The day the Vice President resigned. Venugopal ji called me and said, Vice President is gone. There's a big story about why he resigned. Some of you might know it, some of you might not know it, but there's a story behind it, and then there's a story about why he's in hiding. Why is the Vice President of India in a situation where he cannot say a word? Suddenly, the person who used to burst forth in the Rajya Sabha has gone silent, completely silent. So this is the time we're living in,' Rahul Gandhi said. (With ANI inputs)

'Back To Medieval Times': Rahul Gandhi On Bill To Sack Arrested Ministers
New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi has ripped into three new bills that allow senior members of the government - including the Prime Minister and chief ministers of states and union territories - to be sacked if they have been jailed (but not necessarily convicted) on 'serious criminal charges' for 30 consecutive days. The bills - presented by Amit Shah in the Lok Sabha Wednesday, while opposition MPs threw pieces of paper at him - have been sent to a joint parliamentary committee for scrutiny. But the opposition has been severely critical of the "draconian" and "unconstitutional" proposals, and has accused the BJP of conspiring to illegally remove non-allied governments by filing 'false' cases, jailing rival chief ministers for a month, and forcing them to resign. "We are going back to medieval times... when a king could remove anybody at will. There is no concept of what an elected person is. If the king (referring to Prime Minister Modi) doesn't like your face, he tells the Enforcement Directorate to file a case. Then a democratically elected person is wiped out within 30 days," Mr Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, said. "Let us not forget why we are electing a new Vice President," the Congress MP continued, referring to the surprise resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar last month. Mr Dhankhar quit citing ill heath, but sources later told NDTV the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party engineered his removal. #WATCH | Delhi: Lok Sabha LoP and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi says, "The day the Vice President resigned. Venugopal ji called me and said, Vice President is gone. There's a big story about why he resigned. Some of you might know it, some of you might not know it, but there's a story… — ANI (@ANI) August 20, 2025 Mr Gandhi also hinted darkly at pressure on Mr Dhankhar. "The day he resigned. (KC) Venugopal ji called me and said, 'Vice President has gone'. Now there is a big story about why he resigned. Some of you might know... some might not. And there is a story about why he is in hiding. The person who used to burst forth in the Rajya Sabha has gone silent... completely silent. So, this is the time we're living in," he declared. NDTV Inside Story | What Led To Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's Shock Exit Mr Gandhi - in a black t-shirt in place of the traditional white, a switch seen as a mark of protest - also spoke of a "war" between "those attacking the Constitution and those defending it". Multiple opposition leaders have criticised the 'criminal politicians' bill, including Mr Gandhi's party colleagues, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Abhishek Manu Singhvi. Both highlighted fears the BJP can use the bill to target non-aligned or allied governments. "Tomorrow, you can file any case against a chief minister, have him/her arrested for 30 days without conviction... and he ceases to be a chief minister?" Priyanka Gandhi Vadra asked. "... (they can) unleash biased central agencies to arrest opposition chief ministers and then, despite being unable to defeat them electorally, remove them by arbitrary arrests," Mr Singhvi said, "And no ruling party chief minister will ever be touched!" Opposition leaders pointed to the case of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was arrested on corruption charges linked to an alleged liquor excise policy scam. The AAP boss - who led his party to successive wins over the BJP in Delhi - was arrested and jailed for over five months, without a trial.

Gehlot condoles family of student who died in Jodhpur accident on Aug 15; accuses Raj CM of insensitivity
Jaipur: Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday visited the family of a 12-year-old boy, Lokendra Singh, who tragically lost his life in a road accident on August 15. Ashok Gehlot met the grieving family and later visited Mathuradas Mathur Hospital to inquire about the condition of the three other injured students. Speaking to the media at the airport earlier, the Congress leader launched a scathing attack on the Bhajan Lal Sharma-led government, accusing the Chief Minister of showing a complete lack of sensitivity during his visit to Jodhpur for the state-level Independence Day celebrations. "A student died while on his way to attend the CM's event, yet instead of meeting the bereaved family, the Chief Minister changed his route and left. I don't understand who advises him. If he had met the family, it would have eased public anger,' Ashok Gehlot said. Ashok Gehlot also criticised the local police for failing to stop underage and overloaded two-wheeler riders. 'If three or four students were riding on a single bike, the police should have intervened and stopped them. Had they done their duty, the accident might have been avoided,' he said. He further condemned the lack of basic arrangements like water and shade at the Independence Day event organised by the ruling BJP, which led to health issues for over 20 schoolchildren. 'This is sheer negligence by the administration. I doubt any action has been taken against those responsible, but accountability must be ensured to prevent such incidents in the future,' Ashok Gehlot asserted. Commenting on the 'voter fraud' issue that has been raised by Opposition parties in the country, Ashok Gehlot backed Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi's demand for a nationwide voter verification process. 'Vote theft is now being discussed in every village. LoP Rahul Gandhi wants all voters to be reverified and a transparent system put in place to ensure fair elections. Unfortunately, the Election Commission's attitude on this matter is disappointing,' he said. On August 15, four students were hit by a speeding truck near Residency Road crossing, under the Ratanada police station limits. Lokendra Singh died on the spot after being run over. The truck driver fled the scene. Three other students sustained serious injuries and are being treated at Mathuradas Mathur Hospital.
