Emmerdale star Oliver Farnworth to leave ITV soap opera in explosive scenes
An Emmerdale source said: 'It's the beginning of the end for John. He's got away with so much, but he's about to make a fatal mistake that sees him exposed for what he is."
According to The Sun, they added: 'Obviously, Oliver knew that a character like John had a shelf life and that's rapidly approaching.
'He's loved his time on the show, but there's still plenty of twists and turns coming before he departs for good.'
This comes after it was revealed that Mackenzie Boyd would be murdered by John in upcoming scenes.
A source with the ITV show said at the time: 'The scenes are going to be really harrowing for fans to watch.
'Mackenzie has been in so many scrapes and dangerous positions, but this time it looks like he's bitten off more than he can chew.
'Viewers will be on the edges of their seats watching what happens.'
The scenes, which are meant to air later this year, will take place after Mackenzie discovers the truth about John.
Actor Lawrence Robb has already filmed the final scenes for his character.
The insider added: 'There are huge twists and turns coming throughout this storyline, and it's going to run for months and months.
'Nothing can be ruled out - bosses are really going for it and doing everything they can to keep the audience on their toes.'

Now actor Lawrence has been put in a difficult position about the upcoming story when questioned by the Loose Women panellists. When appearing on the ITV daytime show today to talk about the ongoing surrogacy storyline – that has seen Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) decide to be a surrogate for granddaughter Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) – the awkward matter of his upcoming exit was addressed. 'I don't want to put you on the spot, but I'm going to,' asked Jane Moore. 'There's lots of rumours that Mack might be getting killed off.' Lawrence, visibly squirming, replied: 'Yeah, there are lots of rumours. And rumours they shall remain.' Quick thinking – though Denise Welch didn't look too convinced. Co-host Coleen Nolan then chimed in, asking: 'If that was the case, I'm not saying it is or it isn't, [but] do they discuss that with you straight away or about a month before it's happening?' 'It's never brutal,' he replied, being extremely cautious about his wording. 'I've always said, being in the show, I never want to be too prescriptive with it. 'I've always enjoyed doing what I'm doing. Ultimately if and when, – if, when – the time for Mack to leave comes, whether that be my choice or the writer-producers, I'll be thankful for the time that I've had.' He concluded: 'Ultimately, nobody is safe in the show. It's most dangerous village in the country.'
