Stranger Things fan slam final series release date branding it 'worst ever seen'
Netflix announced the release dates for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things at their Tudum fan event in Los Angeles this weekend
Netflix has finally unveiled the release dates for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, but what should have been an exciting moment has instead sparked a wave of backlash from fans. Show bosses announced that the final season will be rolled out in four volumes during the streamer's Tudum event at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.
The rollout includes eight episodes in total. Four are slated to come out as part of Volume I on November 26. Meanwhile, three episodes will be released on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025. Then the standalone final volume will come out on December 31, New Year's Eve.
Although the Duffer Brothers, who created the hit sci-fi series, described this season as "our biggest and most ambitious yet", not everyone is thrilled with the rollout process.
One Stranger Things fan went viral after posting on social media saying: "This is actually the worst release schedule for a TV show that I have maybe ever seen. Pretty arrogant to assume people will be more interested in watching Stranger Things than spending time with family and friends."
Others echoed their frustration, calling the festive release dates inconsiderate. Another person ranted: "It sucks so bad honestly. 'Hey, watch our show we know you love on Christmas and New Year 's Eve and don't spend time with your family, or else be spoiled!!'"
A third added: "Proper attention seeking nonsense." The release strategy mirrors Netflix 's approach to other major series like Bridgerton and The Witcher, where they have also dropped episodes in multiple segments to keep the hype for the series alive.
However, fans are arguing that placing the final instalments of such a beloved TV show on two of the biggest holiday dates of the year means that Netflix is prioritising marketing over family values.
One person joked: "Netflix thinks we'd rather binge Stranger Things than fight over the last Christmas cookie—guess they forgot some of us actually like our families more than the Upside Down!" Another fan wrote: "New Year's Eve and Christmas Day? Pretty crazy."
Despite the backlash, others defended Netflix's decision, saying that the Christmas holidays are the perfect time for families to sit down and watch Stranger Things together. The anticipation for season five is still sky-high, as fans have waited three years to see what happens next after the fourth season aired.
On top of that, the show's creators have promised an action-heavy conclusion to the series, with Ross Duffer saying it will pack the narrative punch of "eight blockbuster movies".
Matt Duffer added: "We think it's our most personal story. It was super intense and emotional to film — for us and for our actors. We've been making this show together for almost 10 years. There was a lot of crying. There was so much crying. The show means so much to all of us, and everyone put their hearts and souls into it."
All the major cast members will return, including Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, and Gaten Matarazzo. Linda Hamilton is also joining the show in a mystery role.

Outlander enthusiasts may have noticed a familiar face in Netflix's latest series, Department Q. The crime drama has quickly become popular with Netflix viewers, swiftly rising to the top of the UK chart. Penned and directed by The Queen's Gambit creator Scott Frank, Department Q features Matthew Goode in the lead role as DCI Carl Morck, a bold yet brilliant detective heading up a new cold-case unit in Edinburgh. The programme is based on Afdeling Q, a collection of ten Danish Nordic noir crime novels penned by author Jussi Adler-Olsen. Department Q boasts a star-studded cast, including Kelly Macdonald, Mark Bonnar and Chloe Pirrie. Alec Newman also joins the cast as Paul Evans, introduced as an enthusiastic climber, reports the Express. Although he appears unrecognisable in his latest role, Outlander fans might recall him as Joseph Wemyss from the Starz romance drama. Joseph is the father of Lizzie Wemyss, portrayed by Caitlin O'Ryan. Meanwhile, viewers are likely to recognise leading actor Matthew Goode from his previous roles in shows such as Downton Abbey, The Crown and A Discovery of Witches. Renowned actress Kate Dickie, known for her role as Lysa Arryn in the HBO series Game of Thrones, also makes an appearance. Alexej Manvelov, who plays Akram in the show, expressed his excitement about working alongside such a talented cast. "It was just amazing," he told Reach in an exclusive interview. "I'm from Sweden and there's a bit of a different style in Sweden where we're a bit more process-oriented. "But just to come in and work on this high of a level of craft of acting. It was amazing and the ensemble is just... "I mean I've been a fan of Kate Dickie's for ages, since Red Road," he admitted, referring to his co-star who plays DCS Moira. "So just to have a scene with her, I was like 'Oh my god'." The official Netflix synopsis for Department Q reads: "DCI Carl Morck is a brilliant cop but a terrible colleague. His razor-sharp sarcasm has made him no friends in Edinburgh Police. "After a shooting that leaves a young PC dead, and his partner paralysed, he finds himself exiled to the basement and the sole member of Dept. Q; a newly formed cold case unit. "The department is a PR stunt, there to distract the public from the failures of an under-resourced, failing police force that is glad to see the back of him. "But more by accident than design, Carl starts to build a gang of waifs and strays who have everything to prove. "So, when the stone-cold trail of a prominent civil servant who disappeared several years ago starts to heat up, Carl is back doing what he does best - rattling cages and refusing to take no for an answer." All episodes of Department Q are available to stream now, exclusively on Netflix.

Queen Elizabeth's 'bemusing' two-word comment about Archie and Lilibet on final visit
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to celebrate the fourth birthday of their daughter, Lilibet, with private celebrations expected in her honour. The duo, who exchanged vows in 2018, welcomed their second child on June 4, 2021, making her a younger sibling to six year old Archie. Since opting out of their senior Royal duties in 2020, the Sussex family has made their home across the pond in America. READ MORE - BBC Strictly Come Dancing legend reveals reason she quit show and career change READ MORE - Edinburgh stars as Netflix unveils 'sneak peek' into chilling Frankenstein adaption Just two years into their American life, Harry's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, Britain's longest-reigning monarch, passed away at 96. Prince Harry shared insights from his children's "final visit" with the Queen, revealing to the Scottish Daily Express that she appeared "bemused" by the little ones, reports the Mirror. In his tell-all memoir 'Spare', Harry delved into the events surrounding the Queen's funeral and their subsequent return to the US: "For days and days we couldn't stop hugging the children, couldn't let them out of our sight, though I also couldn't stop picturing them with granny, the final visit." (Image: undefined via Getty Images) (Image: undefined via Getty Images) He described how "Archie was making deep, chivalrous bows, his baby sister Lilibet cuddling the monarch's shins." Harry recalled the Queen's reaction, noting she called them the "sweetest children" while seeming "bemused". "She'd expected them to be a bit more... American, I think? Meaning, in her mind, more rambunctious," he concluded. Upon returning home, I was over the moon to resume daily routines like taking the kids to school and reading Giraffes Can't Dance, but memories kept flooding back. King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla ascended to their new roles after the Queen's passing. It is reported that the Royal couple have had limited interactions with their grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, meeting the latter only once during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II in June 2022. Prince Harry acknowledged the distance between himself and his family in a recent interview. In a conversation with the BBC, the Duke of Sussex expressed his desire to reconcile, stating: "There's no point continuing to fight any more, life is precious." A disagreement over security arrangements led to a rift, with Harry revealing that his father "won't speak to him". Earlier this year, Harry was defeated in a court case relating to the downgrading of his personal security level. Commenting on the verdict, he said: "I'm devastated - not so much as devastated with the loss that I am about the people behind the decision, feeling as though this is okay. Is it a win for them?". "I'm sure there are some people out there, probably most likely the people that wish me harm, W.H.O. consider this a huge win." Prince Harry has chosen not to pursue further legal action, as the judgement has shown that a court victory would be unattainable. He further expressed that the decision has led him to a point where he "can't see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point".
