Daniel Craig Exits DC's Movie "Sgt. Rock"

Daniel Craig is no longer attached to star in "Sgt. Rock", the DC Comics adaptation from director Luca Guadagnino and screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes.
News of Craig's possible involvement first broke in November, but a source with knowledge of the project notes that the actor never formally committed to making it.
The character, who debuted in 1959, isn't a classical superhero; rather, he's a non-commissioned officer in the U.S. army who leads his unit, Easy Company, through the European theater of World War II. (Though he does eventually become chief of staff for Lex Luthor.)
DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran are said to be excited about the film as a straightforward war picture, and see it as a chance to demonstrate the wide breadth of content they intend to make under the DC banner. They are already seeking another actor for the title role.
Craig will next appear as detective Benoit Blanc in 'Wake Up Dead Man,' the third entry in writer-director Rian Johnson's 'Knives Out' mystery films.
He is also attached to star opposite Charlize Theron in 'Two for the Money' for director Justin Lin and Apple Studios.
Guadagnino's prolific run of films will continue this October with the Julia Roberts thriller 'After the Hunt.' He's also attached to direct a new adaptation of 'American Psycho' with Austin Butler, and an adaptation of 'Separate Rooms' with Josh O'Connor.

When asked in Cannes about his future with the hit franchise, Cruise remained coy about leaving 'Mission: Impossible' for good. 'I'd rather just people see it and enjoy and we've had an amazing time doing it and it's been a lot of fun and I just want you all to enjoy it,' the acclaimed actor said. 'Enjoy this and know everything is the culmination has come to this moment right now.' 'Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning' opened over Memorial Day Weekend and has grossed $360 million and counting at the worldwide box office. The film debuted to a huge $200 million, setting a franchise record for biggest 'Mission: Impossible' opening yet. 'This weekend was one for the history books!' Egypt's "Blackout" to Compete at 37th Palm Springs International ShortFest
Yara Sameh Egyptian short film "Blackout" will compete at the 2025 Palm Springs International ShortFest, one of the world's premiere festivals dedicated to short form film. The 37th edition of the festival, running June 24-30 in the famed Sonoran Desert town in California, will showcase 311 films hailing from 64 countries and territories. "Blackout" will screen in the Welcome to the Neighbourhood section, alongside over 300 shorts from more than 100 countries. Directed and written by Ahmed Moustafa ElZogbhy, "Blackout" follows a family during the early hours of Eid, as a health emergency spirals into psychological tension inside a Cairo apartment building. With the male family members gone in search of a doctor, the women and children are left behind, until a mysterious tenant and her companion arrive, triggering a confrontation with their fears and expectations. The film stars Sedky Sakhr, Gihan El Shamashergy, Yara Goubran, and Malek Emad. Co-producers include Mohamed Hefzy, Safei ElDin Mahmoud, Aly El Araby, and more. It is produced by Hind Metwalli, Mohamed Hefzy, Safei Eldin Mahmoud, Baho Bakhsh, Ali Elarabi, Ahmed Amer, Sherif Fathy, Ibrahim El-Nagari, and Mustafa El-Kashef. "Ma" Sequel in Works with Octavia Spencer Returning
Yara Sameh A sequel to the 2019 revenge thriller "Ma" is in development at Blumhouse. Octavia Spencer is set to reprise her role as the eponymous killer, but plot details are still being kept under wraps. The project remains in early stages, with no director attached or release date set. The original film followed a group of high schoolers who find an unlikely, intergenerational friend in Sue Ann Ellington, a lonesome veterinarian and devoted party animal played by Spencer. The woman, affectionately called 'Ma,' allows the teens to party in her basement, but things get bloody once their relationship starts to sour. The first 'Ma' re-teamed Spencer with director Tate Taylor, who helmed the aactress'Oscar-winning performance in 'The Help.' Released by Universal in May 2019, the low-budget Blumhouse production was a box office winner, earning $61 million worldwide. But the film has grown an even stronger following in the years since, spawning various memes including parody posters and reaction images. Spencer even joined in on the fun in 2020, holding an online contest for the 'best Ma meme' and awarding numerous prizes. In 2024, she referenced the film in a short video posted by the Kamala Harris presidential campaign. In May, 'Ma' featured as one of the re-release selections for Blumhouse's Halfway to Halloween campaign. The pic, along with 'M3GAN' and 'Annabelle,' received a one-night-only engagement in theaters nationwide.
