N-Dubz star Tulisa Contostavlos opens up on suicide attempts and sex tape leak

Daily Record12 hours ago
The X-Factor and I'm A Celebrity star has opened up about her struggles with addiction and two attempts to take her own life in her new book.
One of the most harrowing chapters in Tulisa Contostavlos's life unfolded in June 2013.

It was a Friday evening when she discovered she was being charged with suspected involvement in supplying Class A drugs.

The N-Dubz sensation had been ensnared by a sting operation orchestrated by undercover journalist Mazher Mahmood - known as the Fake Sheikh - concerning cocaine supply allegations.

The drugs case ultimately crumbled when the reporter was exposed for lying in his testimony - yet the trauma of the experience left Tulisa shattered, reports the Mirror.
According to Tulisa, it became her "year from hell" and drove her to two suicide attempts.
Her heartfelt new memoir, Judgement: Love, Trials, and Tribulations, begins with Tulisa intoxicated on her bathroom floor after learning at 11pm on a Friday that she faced charges for being concerned in supplying Class A drugs.
She's clutching a fistful of tablets, she's unsure what they are; she attempts to Google them but has no mobile signal.
Regardless, she prays they will end her life. She consumes them in pairs.

She writes: "I can't do this anymore, I thought, not another six months of this. I just about got through the first six, but I'm not built for this.
"Why is this happening to me? What's the point in being alive just to be miserable? How am I ever going to find happiness after this?
"Even if I'm found innocent, I'll be empty inside by the time I get to the end of it, and my life will be ruined."

It was her former best mate and PA, Gareth Varey, who discovered her unconscious on the floor, surrounded by empty packets of sleeping pills. Paramedics arrived and insisted they needed to take her to hospital for a check-up, but Tulisa refused.
Instead, the medical team stayed until they deemed it safe to leave, instructing her loved ones to keep a close eye on her.

But that night in June wasn't the only time Tulisa made heartbreaking attempts to end her life. A second incident occurred shortly after, between her trial - which ultimately fell apart - and Mahmood's trial for tampering with her evidence.
This attempt, she says, was 'more definitive'.
"I felt empty inside as if all the joy had been sucked out of me and would never return. So I took a cocktail of sleeping tablets in a bid to never wake up."

Fortunately, she had sent a series of odd messages to friends, and best friend Cat immediately sensed something was amiss and managed to get her to unlock the front door, just before she lost consciousness.
"She later said when she found me that she thought I was already dead as I was seemingly blue from head to toe – she could see veins running up my neck and through my face – so she rang for an ambulance.

"Cat told me a few years later when I finally asked, and how the ambulance crew were desperately trying to keep me alive and how Cat thought I was going to die. I was in hospital for three days and when I finally came around the first thing I said was, 'Why the f**k am I still here? !' That moment I did remember."
In other parts of the book, Tulisa candidly discusses her chaotic upbringing in a home plagued by her mother's schizoaffective disorder and domestic violence.
Throughout the memoir - which chronicles the ordeal of her drugs charges and the trial's collapse - she frequently retreats to the bathroom, poignantly describing it as her sole sanctuary.

She reveals she spent five nights sleeping on the bathroom floor after her intimate video with former partner Justin Edwards was made public in 2012.
"When I was a child, the bathroom was the only room in my house with a lock. I had always locked myself in there in times of distress, whether it was because my parents were going at it like two bulls in a china shop again, or my mentally ill mother was going off the rails.

"It had always been my place of safety. And twenty years later, here I was: back lying on the bathroom floor. Deeprooted issues, I suppose. When the sex tape had come out, I had slept on the bathroom floor for five days."
Tulisa also reveals her struggle with mental health issues and her reliance on sleep medication and benzodiazepines, which she finally overcame in 2024 after she 'found her peace and faith'.

She speaks openly in the book about her intimate life and romantic relationships, including her connections with former footballer Danny Simpson, an ex called Adam, Jack O'Connell, and with an older gentleman named Jacob, who she has had an "almost ten-year journey with that still in a way continues to this day".
Describing him as 'no angel', and their romance as 'rocky', she says their 'drama' has prevented them from settling down together.
Discussing her three and-a-half-year period of celibacy following her break up from Miles, she clarifies that rather than being extreme, she consistently preferred to wait until a relationship was exclusive to become intimate.

Fast-forward to today, and Tulisa reveals she is pushing herself to date once more in pursuit of a fresh beginning.
However, it's not a process she relishes, confessing she is frightened to settle down.
Indeed, she has since frozen her eggs to allow herself more time to heal from her 'deep scars' and to discover someone she wants to 'heal and grow with'.

She now relishes a peaceful existence in Cheshire, where she can remain close to her 'soul family', and concentrate on her wellbeing, spiritualism and wellness.
For the past year, she has been residing in her dream home, which she spent six months renovating, in a tranquil rural area in the middle of nowhere.

Meanwhile, Tulisa discloses how she sabotaged her opportunity to return for another X Factor series because she was so preoccupied pursuing the Fake Sheikh's bogus film offer, and discusses her choice to retreat from public life following her stint on I'm A Celebrity, confessing she felt completely overwhelmed after her time away from the limelight.
She also recalls in disturbing detail the terrifying encounter with an unknown man in a secluded park whilst alone, calling it "every woman's worst nightmare".
"He was grinning at me evilly, showing his teeth. He stayed crouched and still, watching me with his evil eyes glistening through the shadows. I was frozen in shock and fear, when all of a sudden he made a loud sound. 'Hssssssssssss,' he hissed like a snake."
It was only Jacob's arrival behind her that frightened the man away.

Victoria Beckham's 'new coping mechanism' as she's 'heartbroken' over Brooklyn feud

Victoria Beckham is said to be 'heartbroken' over her ongoing feud with son Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz, as the couple renewed their wedding vows in the US. Despite the cheerful holiday photos, a source tells Mirror that Victoria Beckham is reportedly "heartbroken" over the family feud. The tension escalated this month when Brooklyn Beckham and his wife Nicola Peltz renewed their wedding vows in the US, without inviting any of the Beckham family. ‌ Even though the family seemed to be enjoying their time on their £16M yacht - where son Cruz cheekily wore his dad's tiny white trunks, sparking a hilarious family reaction. ‌ Clinical psychologist Dr Sona Kaur suggests that Victoria might be hiding her true feelings behind these shared snaps: "Emotionally, she may be trying to protect herself from everything that's happening, and it might be a coping mechanism and a way of dissociating herself from pain and loss." ‌ In a series of Instagram posts, Brooklyn, 26, and Nicola, 30, were seen expressing their love at an extravagant party held at her family's country estate near New York. Nicola donned her mother Claudia's vintage wedding dress from 1985, while her billionaire father Nelson conducted the ceremony. The couple also posed with Nicola's nearest and dearest, adding to Victoria and husband David's distress – who reportedly only found out about the event when they read about it online. "Victoria's heart is breaking behind closed doors," reveals our insider. "Brooklyn is her firstborn and she's worried she's never going to get him back. Seeing him and Nicola renew their vows without her and David was tough. They have missed out on some big family moments already and Victoria is afraid that the longer this goes on, the less chance there is of it being resolved.", reports the Mirror. Brooklyn and Nicola also posted snaps from their butterfly-themed afterparty, with star-studded guests including actor Adrien Brody and his partner Georgina Chapman. This week, Posh, 51, and Becks, 50, uploaded their own photos of a sun-drenched holiday in the south of France, where they were spotted on a yacht and dining out with their other children Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, and 14 year old Harper. ‌ "Victoria has been posting cheerful pictures on Instagram and it looks like they were having a fantastic holiday, but that doesn't mean Brooklyn isn't on her mind," adds our insider. "It's been so long now that Victoria is wondering if this really is it. It's the exact opposite of time being a healer." Dr Kaur tells us that the rift must be particularly distressing with the world watching on. "Any kind of family estrangement is painful, but especially when it plays out in public. The psychological impact of that gets magnified on a different level," she says. ‌ Dr Kaur has suggested that Victoria may be questioning her own role as a mother due to the family rift. "Family rifts are deeply heartbreaking, and they really can cut into the core of our identity and our belonging. For someone like Victoria, whose identity is intertwined with her family and public brand, being excluded from an important milestone like her son's vow renewal probably brings feelings of grief, rejection – and maybe even a questioning of her own self-worth." David Beckham recently attempted to extend an olive branch to his son Brooklyn by liking one of his Instagram posts where he was giving a cooking tutorial using his hot sauce brand, Cloud 23. However, Brooklyn did not acknowledge David's 50th birthday in May, nor did he say anything on Father's Day in June. ‌ Brooklyn also failed to publicly wish his mum a happy birthday in April, and while the rest of the family celebrated in Miami, he and Nicola were noticeably absent. In July, Brooklyn seemed to ignore his parents' 26th wedding anniversary, and he also failed to acknowledge David's recent knighthood on social media. A source added: "The two families are worlds apart now," and "David can't believe Brooklyn could do this to his family. He just doesn't understand it, and as a family man he feels really let down. David feels they've tried to patch things up but aren't getting anywhere with Brooklyn and Nicola, so all he can do now is put his wife and the rest of the family first." Tensions were reportedly high between Brooklyn Beckham and his family even before his wedding to Nicola three years ago. Alleged disagreements over the bride's dress design and rumours of Nicola feeling "upstaged" by Victoria added fuel to the fire. ‌ In a surprising turn of events, Brooklyn was reportedly blocked on Instagram by his brothers Romeo and Cruz last month. Despite this, he did acknowledge his sister Harper's 14th birthday and later in July, paid tribute to his grandfather Ted Beckham on his 77th birthday with a heartfelt post, writing, "Happy birthday grandad. I love you xx." As the saga unfolds, a friend of the couple has claimed that David and Victoria were never even considered for the guest list. They stated, "In the current climate... hell would have had to freeze over before that happened,". Reflecting on his special day with Nicola, Brooklyn expressed, "To be honest, I could renew my vows every single day with her. I think the most important thing that someone can do is find that person they're going to spend the rest of their life with. It definitely shapes you as a person."

N-Dubz's Tulisa 'slept on bathroom floor' for 5 days after sex tape leak

Tulisa Contostavlos has shared details from her 'year from hell', with her drug trial and sex tape scandal leaving her mental health spiralling. The N-Dubz legend revealed in her new memoir — Judgement: Love, Trials and Tribulations — that she attempted to take her life twice amid the turbulent year. In a blow to her solo career and X Factor stardom in 2012, her sex tape was leaked, then the following year, she was charged on suspicion of supplying Class A drugs. 'When I was a child, the bathroom was the only room in my house with a lock,' Tulisa wrote, according to The Mirror. 'I had always locked myself in there in times of distress, whether it was because my parents were going at it like two bulls in a china shop again, or my mentally ill mother was going off the rails.' She explained it had 'always been my place of safety' and that twenty years later, she was 'back lying on the bathroom floor'. 'Deep-rooted issues, I suppose,' Tulisa, 37, continued. 'When the sex tape had come out, I had slept on the bathroom floor for five days.' At the time, revenge porn was not illegal, so despite launching legal action against her ex-boyfriend Justin Edwards, all she received was an apology. The pair had split in 2009 and while the rapper initially denied responsibility, he offered his 'sincere apologies' via London's High Court. After the case was closed, Tulisa said: 'I am relieved that this is finally over. It has been a very testing few months and this was not a case I ever wanted to go through. 'I stand here today a stronger, wiser young woman who has taken this experience and learnt from it. I am disgusted by Justin and saddened by the people that believed I released the footage myself.' Her lawyer made clear this was 'not the case' and called the ordeal 'the most severe invasion of privacy imaginable'. This wasn't the only devastating moment that left Tulisa seeking comfort in the bathroom, having later attempted to take her life in there. Her former best friend, Gareth Varey, found her unconscious in the bathroom after she overdosed during the drugs case. 'What's the point in being alive just to be miserable?' she penned. 'How am I ever going to find happiness after this? Even if I'm found innocent, I'll be empty inside by the time I get to the end of it, and my life will be ruined.' The I'm A Celebrity star was revived but months later she attempted to take her own life for a second time, resulting in a three-day hospital trip. She was arrested after an elaborate sting and denied the charges, with the case collapsing after the judge believed the prosecution's witness and undercover journalist Mazher Mahmood lied in court. He was later sentenced to 15 months in jail. More Trending In the years that followed, Tulisa became addicted to sleeping tablets and benzodiazepines, which she finally freed herself from last year. She explained she had 'found her peace and faith' after a tumultuous decade, having joined N-Dubz at 11 years old and found fame by 20.
