EPS was reacting to Thirumavalavan's remark at a function in Chennai on Friday that MGR had played a role in bringing Brahminism to the Dravidian movement. "MGR enabled a Brahmin woman (
) to ascend to the leadership of the Dravidian movement," Thirumavalavan had stated.
Palaniswami said Thirumavalavan lacked the credentials to discuss MGR. "MGR is revered as a god by the people of Tamil Nadu. Criticizing someone of that stature will lead to their political disappearance," he said responding to a question by reporters in Salem.
EPS emphasized that it was unfeasible to engage in politics based solely on one caste. 'The AIADMK remains a party that transcends caste and religion. Our movement has numerous caste associations and individuals from various religions," he said. "Those who cannot accept this are expressing their anger and hatred through such remarks," he added.
It may be noted that Thirumavalavan had also said in the same speech in Chennai that no national party could form a govt in the state after MGR floated a new party (AIADMK). 'More importantly, the BJP could not gain foothold in the state,' he had said.

PMK power rift: ‘Every time we make progress, intermediaries sabotage it'
CHENNAI: The general council of Pattali Makkal Katchi, convened by Dr Anbumani Ramadoss at Mahabalipuram on Saturday, elected him as the president as his three-year tenure ended in May this year. Addressing the meeting, Anbumani said that he was assuming the post out of a sense of duty and not out of desire, and blamed intermediaries for intentionally preventing any reconciliation with his father and party founder Dr S Ramadoss. Referring to one of the resolutions passed in the meeting, Anbumani said that his party is clear that the DMK should not return to power in the 2026 Assembly election. He, however, said that the party would decide on who should form the government and form a 'mega' alliance accordingly. His remarks gather significance as it indicated that he was keeping options open about aligning with either the AIADMK-BJP alliance or form an alliance with actor Vijay's TVK, although he had contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election as part of the BJP-led NDA. 'We will come to power. The alliance will be in line with your wishes,' he told the attendees, to rousing cheers. The meeting was convened after the Madras High Court cleared the deck by dismissing the petition filed by Murali Shankar, the general secretary appointed by Dr Ramadoss amid the ongoing tussle with his son, after a day of high drama with Justice N Anand Venkatesh speaking to both the father (via video conference) and son (in person) separately in private, in a bid to resolve the dispute. Stating that he felt no joy when he heard about the verdict, Anbumani said, 'I did not feel happy at all. I was pained. Who are we getting this verdict against? Against our own,' he asked. He added that his father will forever remain the guiding force of the party and said he will surely join the rest present at the meeting soon. A chair reserved for the party's founder, Ramadoss, was placed vacant next to Anbumani at the meeting.

EPS bitter about Tamil Nadu's double-digit growth: CM Stalin
CHENNAI: Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday criticised AIADMK general secretary and leader of opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami for dismissing the report of his 'friends' – BJP-led union government – about the state achieving a growth of 11.19% in Gross State Domestic Product in 2024-25, stating he (EPS) did not understand that economic indicator is the fundamental measure of development. Addressing a government function in Chengalpattu district, the CM alleged that Palaniswami was bitter about TN's double-digit growth since the state has achieved such a phenomenal growth under his (Stalin) leadership when the same was not possible for Prime Minister Narendra Modi (for the country) or for the CMs of any other states. Stating that the incumbent government has put TN on a growth trajectory that cannot be hidden or refuted even by the union government, Stalin added that the DMK will achieve an even higher growth during the 'Dravidian Model 2.0', indicating the party's confidence that it will return to power in 2026. 'The entire country will look at TN and say this is development and this is the path. You are going to watch that from the opposition benches (in the Assembly),' Stalin said.

VCK's Thol Thirumavalavan defends ‘Brahmin' remark, EPS chastises MGR bashers
SALEM/ TIRUCHY: Two days after VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan's remark against former chief ministers MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday said those who speak against MGR would fade away in Tamil Nadu politics. The AIADMK leader was addressing a party induction event in Omalur, where nearly 1,000 members from various political parties joined the party. Thirumavalavan, while addressing a memorial function for former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in Chennai on Thursday, had said 'there is popular opinion that MGR's entry had brought 'benefit' to certain political forces by sowing anti-Karunanidhi sentiment, enabling the infiltration of Brahminism into the Dravidian movement, and paving the way for a Brahmin woman to lead a Dravidian party'. He had also said national parties were not able to grow in the state amidst the fight between these parties. After his speech stoked controversy, Thirumavalavan told reporters at Tiruchy airport on Saturday that he had no intention of insulting MGR or J Jayalalithaa and that his remarks in Chennai were aimed at explaining how Tamil Nadu politics had revolved around Karunanidhi over the past 60 years. 'In my speech, I said that politics was centred on opposing Karunanidhi. I also said that AIADMK, under MGR and Jayalalithaa had functioned largely as a 'Karunanidhi-opposition',' he said.
