Alabama shortstop Justin Lebron receives 2025 All-American honors
The 2025 postseason honors continued to roll in for Alabama Crimson Tide shortstop Justin Lebron earlier this past week, as he was named a Third Team All-American by Perfect Game.
A selection at the shortstop position, the players who received First and Second Team honors ahead of the Alabama star were UCLA's Ross Cholowsky, Perfect Game's Player of the Year, as well as Wake Forest's Marek Houston.
Starting all 59 games for Alabama at shortstop, Lebron slashed .316/.421/.636 for the Crimson Tide during the 2025 season with 18 home runs and a team-leading 72 RBI. Lebron was also one of Alabama's top base stealers this past season, swiping 17 bags.
Other accolades for Lebron's sophomore season at Alabama included Second Team All-SEC and SEC All-Defensive Team. The Alabama shortstop was also a semifinalist for the 2025 Golden Spikes Award.

And yes, managers for both teams held their breath as players went cardboard sledding at Lamade Stadium. The game went downhill early for the Mariners. Vientos hit a sacrifice fly off Mariners starter George Kirby (8-6) in a three-run second inning. Vientos hit his eighth homer of the year in the fifth to make it 6-1. Francisco Lindor added an RBI double later in the inning. The game put the Little League in Little League Classic when Lindor mistimed a leap on a catchable ball that led to a Mariners run in the fourth and Seattle center fielder Julio Rodríguez misplayed Lindor's double and let the ball drop on the warning track. Key moment Perhaps it came off the field. Commissioner Rob Manfred said during the ESPN telecast that baseball would consider expansion that could potentially geographically realign teams for easier travel and potentially make for more viewer-friendly TV times in the postseason. The Mariners head to Philadelphia on Monday for the start of a three-game series.

Social media hit Ilona Maher takes women's rugby onto new plane
Ilona Maher transcends women's rugby, giving it a profile outside of the sport in the way that Mia Hamm did for women's football. Now the stage is set at the women's World Cup in England for the American to spark even more interest. The 29-year-old phenomenon has attracted over eight million followers on social media, not only through her sporting exploits but also for her promotion of body positivity. She played a pivotal role in the USA women's team winning a first ever Olympic medal, beating Australia in the third-place playoff in Paris last year. On the back of that achievement, Maher featured in Sports Illustrated's swimsuit edition and appeared in the US version of hit TV show "Dancing with the Stars", finishing runner-up. The Maher-fuelled improvement of the USA team attracted the attention of American investor Michele Kang who donated $4 million to help develop the USA Women's Rugby Sevens Team over four years. In another sport, Kang owns the Lyon women's football team, the eight-time European champions. Maher's days in Paris were not just spent playing rugby but also attracting even more followers with her pithy social media posts. She compared life in the Athletes' Village to a reality TV show, in one humorous posting saying she was there "looking for love", to which her friend replies: "No you are here to play rugby." In more reflective mode in Paris, she told the Bleacher Report one of her goals was trying to reassure "girls" that playing sport did not take away their "girliness". "But that's not the world, is it? The world isn't going to tone down for you." Instead Maher has upped the ante and the fruits for women's rugby have been plentiful as New Zealand legend Portia Woodman-Wickliffe told AFP. "Having someone from America with that American market who is very confident, loves rugby, loves supporting women's bodies, someone as vocal as that is amazing for us," Woodman-Wickliffe said.
