Naomi Ackie 'in early talks for Clayface role'
The 32-year-old actress - who has appeared in the likes of Mickey 17 and Blink Twice - is said to be in initial discussions to join Tom Rhys Harries in Mike Flanagan's take on the Batman villain.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, several sources have revealed that formal negotiations are set to get underway this week.
Ackie is said to have joined in reading sessions in the UK last week, and emerged as a favourite for DCU bosses.
Speak No Evil director James Watkins will be at the helm, with Rhys Harries playing the titular role from a script written by The Haunting of Hill House director Flanagan.
The body horror thriller is focused on the supervillain and his appearance-altering powers, with comparisons to the feel and structure od 1986 classic The Fly.
That film followed a relationship between a scientist (Jeff Goldblum) fused with the DNA of a fly, and the journalist (Geena Davis) writing about the discovery.
For Clayface, an B-movie actor's life is changed for ever when his face gets disfigured by a gangster.
He desperately seeks out a scientist for help, and while the experiment is initially a success, things take a sinister turn.
The film is slated to shoot at Warner Bros. Leavesden studio in the UK later this year as it marches towards its September 2026 release date.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Clayface will be a 'stripped down movie', with a budget of approximately $40 million.
DC Studios boss and Superman director James Gunn recently opened up on his vision for the wider cinematic universe, and insisted there can't be a set style or genre across each film.
He told CBS Mornings: "We've got Clayface, which is a totally different thing. Although it's in the same universe, it's a complete horror film. "That's one of the things we want to do. There's not a company style. It's not like every movie is going to be like Superman.
"The artists — the directors and the writers — each one will bring their own sense to it… "That's what we want to bring to the films because we don't want people to get bored. We want to invigorate people."
Meanwhile, fans are eagerly awaiting The Batman Part II from filmmaker Matt Reeves, who recently completed the script for the highly anticipated follow-up.
When asked at the Superman world premiere in Los Angeles earlier this month if he has read the script, he simply told ScreenRant: "It's great!"
Gunn then made a swift exit from the chat, but was smiling as he walked further down the carpet.

The first movie starred Galligan, Phoebe Cates and Hoyt Axton with Howie Mandel voicing the character of Gizmo. In the film, Galligan's character is gifted a mogwai named Gizmo but things go horribly wrong after he fails to follow the three strict rules for looking after him.

Adam Sandler 'couldn't be happier' with Happy Gilmore 2 reaction
Adam Sandler "couldn't be happier" with the response to Happy Gilmore 2. The 58-year-old actor has reprised the role of Happy to star in the long-awaited comedy sequel, and Adam has been thrilled by the public's reaction to the new movie. The actor - who has enjoyed huge success with Tim Herlihy, his writing partner - told The Hollywood Reporter: "We couldn't be happier. It's something that I can't describe. "Just walking down the street, hearing people talk about it even before it came out — we were like, something fun is going on here. We went from, this was nothing we ever thought about, to having one of the best times of our careers together, feeling the fun of it all." Julie Bowen reprised the role of Virginia Venit for the new movie. However, the character is killed off early in the film. Asked if it was a difficult decision to move on from the character, Adam replied: "We love Julie. She's just a great vibe and a great person. We love working with her, and we did the first one and Hubie Halloween. "We just knew we needed Happy to have to overcome something in this story. There's nothing more painful than losing someone you love. Just wanted to show how dedicated Happy was to Julie's character, and he would never be able to move on from it and the love he had for her. We just thought that was something to have going with the new story of where Happy is at his age. "We're older now, so we've seen people go through stuff, and when you get older, this shit can happen — not in the same way it happens in our movie, but you lose people. Just dealing with it is difficult, and especially when you feel like you might have been a part of it, it's hard to shake that stuff. "So we just thought it was interesting for Happy to have to think about that and get back in the game." Julie recently admitted that she "started laughing" when she learned that her character dies in Happy Gilmore 2. The 55-year-old actress - who appeared in the original Happy Gilmore movie in 1996 - told People: "When I found out that I was killed on page 12, I started laughing. "I was on vacation with my family, and I had no wifi. I could barely read this thing. I only had my phone, and I was like, 'Am I seeing this right'? Trying to blow it up. "And I was like, 'Oh, yeah, I'm dead. And he kills me.' Then I just started laughing. I just started laughing and laughing, and Adam [Sandler] was trying to get through to me. 'He felt like a family member to us': Adam Sandler remembers Cameron Boyce
Adam Sandler says Cameron Boyce 'felt like a family member to us'. The 20-year-old actor - who played Adam's son in 2010's Grown Ups and 2013's sequel Grown Ups 2 - passed away in 2019 following a seizure and after including a scene in Happy Gilmore 2 where Cameron can be seen on TV, Adam explained 'we think of him all the time'. He told The Hollywood Reporter: 'Love that kid. He was one of the sweetest persons I've ever met - just constantly in a good mood, constantly great energy, loving to everybody. He felt like a family member to us when we were shooting Grown Ups. Of course, we were going to shoot with Cameron on Hubie Halloween, and we were getting ready to have a great time together, and we lost him. We think of him all the time. This was just a moment where we were like, 'What should we throw on the TV?' We said, 'Might as well throw Cameron in there. He's the man. Keep him part of our family.' And so that's why we did it.' The brief scene shows Adam's titular character Happy checking in at a golf course, where staff are watching a TV show featuring Cameron, which fans believe to be his Disney Channel show Jessie, in which he starred as Luke Ross from 2011 to 2015. Cameron's mom, Libby Boyce, shared a still featuring the moment and wrote on Instagram: "Thank you @adamsandler for honoring Cam's legacy in Happy Gilmore 2 (sic)" Libby also reflected on the bond Adam and Cameron had shared and thanked the Murder Mystery actor for his ongoing support for her late son. She wrote in a separate post: "Adam and Cameron talked quite a bit in the days leading up to his death. "Cameron was supposed to be in Hubie Halloween. They had a bond I think related to being authentic, funny and just keeping it real. Adam always finds a way to keep Cam's memory alive which warms our heart." While Cameron passed away before Hubie Halloween was filmed, Adam incorporated a tribute to the "talented" young star in the movie's credits. A picture of the actor was shown along with the message: "In loving memory of CAMERON BOYCE. Gone way too soon and one of the kindest, coolest, funniest, and most talented kids we knew. You live on forever in our hearts and are truly missed every day."
