YSRCP levelling baseless allegations on Talliki Vandanam scheme, says Anantapur MP

The Hindu16-06-2025
Anantapur MP Ambica Lakshminarayana has said that the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and its leaders are making baseless allegations on the Talliki Vandanam scheme. He said the YSRCP leaders failed to prove their charges that ₹2,000 of each Talliki Vandanam beneficiary is going into the pockets of HRD Minister Nara Lokesh.
Speaking to media persons along with the TDP district president Venkata Sivudu Yadav here on Monday, Mr. Lakshminarayana said the NDA government had fulfilled another Super Six promise of financial assistance to every school going children in a house. 'Unable to digest the NDA government fulfilling its promise, the YSRCP and its leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy are leveling baseless allegations that ₹2,000 from every beneficiary is going into the pockets of Mr. Lokesh. Even as Mr. Lokesh challenged them to prove the allegations, they have not done so. The previous government also gave ₹13,000 financial assistance under Amma Vodi. Does it mean the remaining ₹2,000 went into the pockets of Mr, Jagan Mohan Reddy?' he questioned.
Mr. Lakshminarayana said while there were only 42 lakh beneficiaries under Amma Vodi, the Chandrababu Naidu-led government is giving financial assistance to 67.27 lakh students under Talliki Vandanam scheme. He said the Jagan Mohan Reddy government gave financial assistance to only one child in a household while the NDA government has not put any such rider. 'We have assured to implement the scheme before the start of the academic year and we have fulfilled it,' he said.
Mr. Lakshminarayana said students from 29.82 lakh BC students, 11.76 lakh SC, 4.26 lakh ST, 8.44 lakh EWS and 66,500 minority students will benefit from the scheme. He said the previous government had spent just ₹5,000 crore on Amma Vodi while the present government is spending nearly ₹10,000 crore on Talliki Vandanam for the bright future of the students.
'While the State government is implementing the scheme in a transparent manner, Mr. Jagan is making baseless allegations. It is Mr. Jagan who had taken commissions in purchase of chikkis and eggs meant for schoolchildren,' he alleged.

Casualties Of Parliament Disruptions: MPs Losing Out On Opportunities In Question Hour, Zero Hour

Last Updated: Out of 210 Zero Hour submissions made by MPs in the Rajya Sabha this monsoon session, only 5 could be taken up For young MPs and old, Question Hour and Zero Hour are critical to raise questions that concern the people of their constituency or state. While Question Hour from 11 am to noon in both houses gives them a chance to get a minister to respond to their questions, the Zero Hour immediately thereafter gives them a chance to raise 'Issues of Urgent Public Importance". Many MPs even have to wait a year or more to get a chance in the Zero Hour. But when Parliament does not function normally, as has been the case in the monsoon session so far, Question Hour and Zero Hour are the first casualties of disruptions. Out of 210 Zero Hour submissions made by MPs in the Rajya Sabha this session, only five could be taken up. Out of 210 starred questions listed in Question Hour, just 14 could be taken up. Many MPs, both from the ruling NDA and the opposition, that CNN-News18 spoke with over the last few days, rued how they had lost out on a chance to raise critical questions in Parliament, which remained in limbo except for the 32-hour discussion on Operation Sindoor. A 'matter of time' But, due to continued disruptions, the Rajya Sabha was able to take up only 14 starred questions, 5 Zero Hour submissions and 17 special mentions. 'Because of the disruptions, we have lost 62 hours and 25 minutes of this session," the Chair noted on Monday. Speaker and deputy chairman's pleas On August 8, as soon as Question Hour began in Lok Sabha, it was rocked by disruptions from the opposition on the special intensive revision (SIR) issue. Speaker Om Birla pleaded to the house: 'Honourable members, I am requesting you again that Question Hour is an important time. Please let the house sit. Your sloganeering is not in accordance with parliamentary traditions. The people of the country are watching this. I am requesting you again, this Question Hour is important." On August 11, the deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Harivansh Narayan Singh, also appealed to the members to let the Zero Hour function. 'I would request you to let Zero Hour run…allow honourable members to avail Zero Hour and Question Hour. You know that both of these are very important instruments for honourable members. These are very important instruments. You don't want these to be discussed?" he said, before adjourning the house. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. AP's New Liquor Policy Hits Telangana Border Sales

Mahabubnagar: The newly revamped liquor policy of Andhra Pradesh has begun to make its presence felt in Telangana's border districts, with sales in several wine and liquor shops witnessing a steep decline particularly in the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district, which shares borders with Kurnool and Guntur districts of AP. Until recently, the border areas of Alampur and Macherla were a hub for Andhra customers. Shops here were bustling with heavy footfall, thanks to a stark difference in liquor policies between the two states. Under former CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy's government, AP sold liquor exclusively through government-run outlets. The choice of brands was limited, the quality was often questioned, and the prices were steep, driving many AP customers across the border to Telangana, where most popular brands were readily available at comparatively affordable prices. With the change in government, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has overhauled the old liquor policy, granting licences to over 3,000 private and retail vendors. Liquor is now sold openly across AP, with greater availability and at lower prices than before, though still slightly costlier than Telangana. This shift has resulted in nearly a 50% drop in liquor sales in Telangana's border towns from AP customers. Narender, a resident of Kurnool living in the Alampur border area, noted that while prices in AP have reduced under the new policy, quality concerns persist. 'Even though the new policy has been implemented, people in border areas still prefer liquor from Telangana. By my estimate, sales here have dropped only by 3–5% because of AP customers switching over. Many are still crossing the border due to quality differences. In AP, some brands cost at least ₹10 more than in Telangana, and people are not happy with what's available,' he told Hans India. Laxmikanth Reddy of Alampur recalled the bustling scene at the Pullur toll plaza, which was once thronged by AP customers before 2024. 'Now, the crowds are gone. The new policy has cut sales in border shops by almost half. Only a small fraction—maybe 2–5%—of AP customers still come here, mainly for better quality,' he observed. For shop owners in Mahabubnagar's border areas, the change has been swift and sharp. What was once a lucrative market fuelled by AP customers has now dwindled, with only loyal quality-conscious buyers making the trip. While Telangana still retains an edge in brand variety and perceived quality, Andhra Pradesh's more competitive pricing and increased accessibility are shifting the balance. If the trend continues, the once-bustling liquor hubs along the Telangana-AP border may have to rethink their strategies—or risk toasting to the end of an era in cross-border wine sales.

Jagan Mohan Reddy presided over meetings leading to liquor scam decisions, alleges AP Police

Synopsis Andhra Pradesh Police have implicated former CM Jagan Mohan Reddy in a ₹3,500 crore liquor scam through a supplementary charge sheet, alleging his involvement in key policy decisions and APSBCL appointments. "Accordingly, pursuant to such discussion, draft operational guidelines were also submitted for establishment and running of 35,000 retail outlets by APSBCL for approval of the government," it said. In its 305-page charge sheet filed in July, the SIT had linked Reddy to monthly kickbacks to the tune of ₹50-60 crore per month. So far, Reddy has not been named as an accused.
