3 college students injured in separate accidents in the city
According to the complaint, in the Jogeshwari accident, 22-year-old Rakesh Jagtap, a computer science student from Goregaon (East), was travelling to Jogeshwari railway station around 2.30pm. An allegedly speeding auto rickshaw hit him on the East-West Bridge service road. After the accident, the rickshaw driver fled the scene without providing medical assistance. An injured Jagtap managed to reach a nearby hospital after informing the police.
The police are scanning CCTV footage in the area to identify the driver. They have also asked for details of the rickshaw from the Regional Transport Office (RTO).
An hour after the Jogeshwari accident, another took place in Bandra. Yamin Hussain, a 19-year-old BSc student from Bandra (West), and his friend, Ishan Rana, who was riding pillion, suffered multiple injuries after a speeding aggregated cab made a sharp U-turn on the Hill Road. After crashing into the taxi, the two students fell from the bike.
In the complaint, Hussain said, 'We were returning from Tawa Hotel to Chimbai Road when the cab suddenly took a U-turn on Hill Road. We were both thrown away after crashing into the front right bumper of the car.'
Passersby rushed Hussain and Rana to a nearby hospital. They were quick to catch the cab driver and handed him over to the police. Bandra police arrested the cab driver, Rajesh Shah, 24, and booked him for rash and negligent driving under the Motor Vehicle Act. 'The driver was not drunk. We have booked him for rash and negligent driving,' said a police officer. Shah was given a notice of appearance during the investigation and let go.

4,000+ motorists speeding on Coastal Rd challaned this year
Mumbai: More than 4,000 motorists were challaned by Mumbai traffic police for speeding on the Coastal Road so far this year, with fines issued running up to Rs 82 lakh. Around 1,500 challans have been cleared and Rs 31 lakh in fines paid by offenders so far, the police said. Additionally, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) challaned another 596 motorists for crossing speed limits, including several high-end vehicles such as BMW, Mercedes and Audi. The vehicle captures speed and generates challans. Traffic police also set up a similar interceptor vehicle earlier this year. "On the south-bound arm of the Coastal Road at Worli and on the north-bound arm near the tunnel, electronic displays have also been put up that show the speed of vehicles passing in the lane beneath. Seven speed cameras are being set up for automatic generation of challans," said a police official. Installing malicious ‘RTO app' costs trader 34L
V adodara: A city businessman lost Rs 34.75 lakhs after installing a malicious app, which was disguised as an app for payment of e-challans to the Regional Transport Office (RTO). An unknown sender sent him a download link for the malicious app on WhatsApp. Deepak Thakkar, who runs an electronics showroom, filed a complaint for fraud at Cyber Crime police station in the city. Thakkar said he received a message on July 9 from an unidentified number. The message contained a file called RTO and he thought it was related to e-challans issued by the RTO. Thakkar downloaded the file and installed it on his phone. The next day, several transactions occurred from three of his bank accounts, with lakhs of rupees being transferred to various bank accounts. In two days, over Rs 39 lakh was siphoned off, of which one transaction, for Rs 4.9 lakh, was reversed with the money being credited back to his account. Thakkar immediately approached police and informed them about the fraud. According to police, the malicious app allowed the criminals to steal Thakkar's passwords and PIN numbers. Thakkar later uninstalled the app. Police are now trying to track down the perpetrators using the money trail.

Last Updated: A video of college students performing "dangerous" stunt went viral on social media, prompting the authorities to file a case against them. Three college students were booked after a video of them performing a stunt in a moving car in Navi Mumbai went viral on social media, officials said on Wednesday. The incident took place on Palm Beach Road at around 8.30 pm on Monday. The students were detained after the video surfaced on social media. In the viral video, recorded by an unknown driver on Palm Beach Road (Vashi lane) between Sarsole Signal and Moraj Signal in Sanpada, one man is seen leaning out of the car's open sunroof while it was moving. Another man was sitting on the edge of the backseat window, with the upper half of his body outside. Later, the woman who was originally driving the car switched seats with her friend and leaned out of the sunroof herself while her friend drove, Times of India reported. A top police official said that the cops traced the vehicle's owner to Sector 20, Belapur Village using the registration number. 'It was learnt that the car owner's son, Hari Gholpe (20), was driving the vehicle. He was accompanied by his friends Vinay Rawal (19), a Sanpada resident, and Kavya Joshi (20), residing in Nerul. While Gholpe dangerously leaned out of the moving car's window, Rawal leaned out through the sunroof, while Joshi was at the wheel. Thereafter, Joshi took a turn to perform a stunt by leaning out of the sunroof while one of her friends drove the car," Devidas Kathale, Senior Inspector of Sanpada, was quoted as saying by the outlet. The three students were booked under relevant sections of the BNS for rash driving and for activities endangering human life. Motor Vehicle Act was also slapped against them for 'dangerous driving", according to the report.
