Strictly Come Dancing star lands huge TV role away from BBC show

Daily Mirror15-05-2025

Professional dancer Dianne Buswell has landed a brand new job for a very different audience away from Strictly Come Dancing following her BAFTA TV Awards win
Dianne Buswell has bagged a totally different role away from Strictly Come Dancing. The professional dancer, who picked up a BAFTA TV Award over the weekend, is set to embark on a new venture.
She headed to her native Australia for the project, that sees her win over a much younger audience. Dianne has teamed up with hit children's TV show Bluey for a brand new series.

The Aussie dancer will star in Bluey Dancealongs, which airs on the official Bluey YouTube channel, Bluey.tv and Bluey's social media. Dianne stepped into Bluey's world for the series as she choreographed and starred in five different dance videos.

It sees a beloved Bluey song taken to a new part of Bluey's World as fans and invited to take part in the immersive experience. Dianne will not star alone, as she has been joined by young fans of Bluey.
She said: "How cool that I got to go to Bluey's World in Australia to dance in Bluey's house with some incredibly talented kids dancing to some of Bluey's favourite tunes. I love the message that Bluey sends out, to not just kids but grownups too. I can't wait to see everybody trying the dance moves at home and joining in the party."
Jasmine Dawson, from SVP Digital, BBC Studios added: "We are thrilled to launch Bluey Dancealongs and bring brand-new entertaining content for fans to engage with on our digital channels.
"Partnering with the incredible Dianne Buswell to create these joyful, accessible dance routines perfectly captures the spirit of Bluey — fun and family – and we're looking forward to seeing fans everywhere get moving and join in the fun, no matter where they are."
The videos will be released each week from today and last from between one and three minutes. Songs including A Message from the Fairies, Bluey Theme Tune (Dance Remix), Lollipop Yum Yum Yum, Muffin Drive and the recently released Burger Dog will be featured.

It is not the first time Dianne has worked with Bluey, as the beloved children's TV character joined her on the Strictly Come Dancing dancefloor last year.
As part of BBC Children in Need, Bluey headed to the Strictly ballroom alongside the professional dancers.

Over the weekend, Dianne collected a BAFTA TV Award for her and celebrity dance partner Chris McCausland's waltz to You'll Never Walk Alone as the most memorable moment in TV.
The winning couple's 'blackout' dance, which went viral on social media, saw Chris place his hands over Dianne's eyes as the room faded to black, mimicking his everyday experience.
Dianne gushed: 'In one minute and 30 seconds of a dance, I feel like this told such a story. A story of hope, determination, resilience and vulnerability.'
She added: 'This moment meant so much to the both of us, so I'm just so thrilled that we have this.'
Chris was not at the ceremony, but Dianne said: 'Chris did have something he wanted me to say, and that is 'after 22 years in comedy, he wins a Bafta for dancing'.'

Arlene Phillips shares reaction to Strictly fans who mistake her for much younger judge

Arlene Phillips shares reaction to Strictly fans who mistake her for much younger judge Dame Arlene Phillips says fans are always mixing her up with her friend on Strictly Come Dancing, who is 18 years her junior, years on from her controversial axe from the BBC show Arlene Phillip said she's often having to clarify who she is to fans (Image: undefined via Getty Images ) Dame Arlene Phillips is arguably the first choreographer to become a household name in Britain. Her dance ensemble, Hot Gossip, set the 1980s alight and sparked a lingerie-as-outerwear fashion trend, echoed by stars such as Sabrina Carpenter today. While those days may be behind her, Dame Arlene still remains as one of the dance industry's most well-known faces. In a recent chat, the former Strictly Come Dancing judge said fans often mistake her for the programme's current head judge, Shirley Ballas, 64. She shared: "People come running up shouting, 'Shirley! Shirley!' and I have to say, 'No, I'm the other one!'". ‌ Despite the mix-up, at 82, Arlene may find solace in being compared to someone nearly two decades her junior. ‌ Fans sometimes mistake Arlien for her pal Shirley Ballas [L] (Image: undefined via Getty Images ) Arlene endured a highly publicised departure from the Strictly Come Dancing jury in her sixties, which ignited heated debates over sexism and ageism within the media. The contentious casting change led over 2,000 viewers to lodge complaints with the BBC, and even drew political ire as Deputy Labour Leader Harriet Harman lambasted the BBC's choice as "absolutely shocking." Article continues below Throughout the uproar, Arlene chose to concentrate on her own pursuits: "I wrapped myself in my world and got on with life," she told The i newspaper. Arlene made a name for herself with dance troupe Hot Gossip (Image: undefined via Getty Images ) Many still approach her to opine that she shouldn't have been dismissed from the series after its 2008 season. ‌ Reflecting on her reaction to being replaced by Alesha Dixon, Arlene expressed initial anger but pointed out her swift rebound. "I gave myself 48 hours to kick, scream, cry and sob, and eat scones with cream and jam, then I made myself wake up and get on with it," she added. "I loved being on Strictly. It's very dear to my heart that I was there right from the start." ‌ Arlene continued, highlighting her resilience: "I'm a grown up so when life comes along and it doesn't go the way you want, you just get on with it." Bruno Tonioli, Arlene Phillips, Len Goodman and Craig Revel Horwood on Strictly (Image: BBC ) Meanwhile, a previous female colleague at the BBC conveyed to The Mirror their concerns about ageism, stating: "There seems to be a system that gives women no chance on air unless they are below a certain age." Article continues below They further lamented: "Arlene may have a job on The One Show, but she is being pushed out of Strictly even though she was an excellent judge with great knowledge on dancing. There is no really good reason for it." At the time, the BBC denied that ageism played any role in Arlene being replaced. In defence of the decision to bring in former Strictly champion Alesha as Arlene's replacement, BBC One controller Jay Hunt asserted: "Yes, a lot of people were upset about Arlene but the flip side is, in Alesha, we have a young, black, woman presenter, at the heart of the Saturday night BBC One schedule."

Sharing an expert from an i article to Instagram, Sophie wrote on her Stories today: "Thank you @carsonsarah @theipaper. "I've been reflecting on my first week of Radio 1 and it's been such a surreal experience to connect with the nation. I love it!!!" Chief Culture Writer Sarah Carson had praised Sophie in her opinion piece, claiming - while her hiring may not be "fair - the reality star still "deserved" her place. Advertisement She wrote: "The primary function of Radio 1 in the afternoons is providing a bit of distraction, energy, and silliness as people leave work or school. "It's not supposed to be challenging, or specialist - it's low-stakes, unwind, chatty stuff that needs someone sparky on the mic between the pre-made playlists. "Habboo is likeable, a sharp wit, withering, quick to laugh, and sweet. She's smart, comfortable being open about her relationship, self-effacing, and happy to indulge a bit of nonsense (she needs to be, being married to Laing). "She feels like a friend - the kind who gives you tough love while giving your arm a gentle squeeze - and she's got charisma. That counts for a lot more than skill and experience in this landscape." Advertisement Her comments were a far cry from some listeners, who had slammed the latest hiring by bosses. On the official social media account of BBC Radio 1, fans flocked to the comments section as they claimed the station has "fallen" in standards. Vick Hope finally reveals pregnancy - and date she's going on maternity leave from BBC Radio One One disgruntled listener fumed: "How far we've fallen from Vick and Jordan…" A second exclaimed: "There is something really gross, about two such privileged and independently wealthy (the Laings)given access to prime time national radio shows over people who have trained and studied for years in media." Advertisement "Please get some good DJs back in the drive time slot. It's getting embarrassing," stated a third user. While someone else raged: "Wealthy Reality stars just being handed roles for nothing now. They're sooo unrelatable." And a fifth added: "Im a big radio 1 fan but shouldve been jerry .....jamie and sophie is a bad move be a switch off for me sorry." Many longtime fans of the station directly blamed bosses for a decline as they hired "influencers". Advertisement They slammed the decision not to look for upcoming talent or give the role to an existing cover presenter who has trained for the job "for years". Another fan noted: "Where is the dislike button? "There are so many hard working and capable presenters covering gigs on R1 atm, how undermining that they weren't given the chance to show the listeners what they're capable of!!" Someone else agreed" "Really glad I'm not the only one who was disappointed by this update. Advertisement "It really doesn't sit right with me when there's people trying so hard to get a break. It's a no from me I'm afraid." Please get some good DJs back in the drive time slot. It's getting embarrassing Radio 1 fan While another added: "I think I'll be finding a different radio station to listen to for my 'going home' slot in the week now. "Something just doesn't sit right with me, that his wife has got the job… when there must be some amazing local talent & those that have worked really hard in the industry that will have been overlooked for celebrity privilege…" One more fan stated: "Radio 1 turning into a constant influencer podcast.. what happened to actually knowing music to being a radio DJ! Many years of listening, only holding on for Greg! Time to switch!" 'I've found a boxing club a rehabilitation centre and a boxing club I've found someone I want to get to know and I'm happy I got a good bunch of friends and I get out and enjoy myself. 'I want to be clean so I can life happily and have healthy relationships with people and be there for all of my family rather then feeling like I'm in the middle and have to choose a side.' He continued: 'I haven't been able to feel love properly as I have never loved myself and it starts now I want to play football and take up boxing I want to be happy and be in a healthy relationship and have a healthy relationship with my Nana and my father'. The youngster concluded: 'Desire everything that is going in new story about me my Nana and father every day ffs it's getting boring now [sic]'. 'Mind your business and have a good rest of the week x', he signed off. Freddy's post comes just days after it emerged that he was living with his nan in her Bermondsey home. More Trending A source told the Daily Mail that Freddy and Jackiey have 'always had a strong bond,' hence 'Jeff was never going to keep Freddy away from his nanny for very long'. 'Jeff may hate her for all sorts of reasons going back many years, but Freddy loves her very much,' added the insider. 'They had a great time together, playing with her dog and catching up at her flat, where he has often stayed over the years. 'Whatever Jeff hoped to achieve with his legal efforts, it hasn't worked.'
