Movie Tea: Nicholas Hoult Addresses Kelsey Grammer's Return As Beast; Script For 'Batman II' Finally Complete

Hype Malaysia03-07-2025
We are once again delving into the world of superheroes, as rumblings from both Marvel and DC are shaking things up!
Here's what you need to know to keep yourself up to date on upcoming movies out of Hollywood.
Nicholas Hoult Opens Up About Kelsey Grammer's Return in 'Avengers: Doomsday'
Ever since the announcement of 'Avengers: Doomsday', alongside the cast reveal, many have been absolutely hyped for the cinematic event. Not only did it confirm the return of the most familiar faces in the current MCU, but it also confirmed the return of many actors from the Fox Marvel movies!
One of those returning Fox faces is none other than Kelsey Grammer, who is largely known for his depiction of Beast in the 'X-Men' series back in the early 2000s. He is, of course, joined by other legends of his era, such as Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart. Naturally, many of the more recent actors of the same legendary characters, such as James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, have taken a step back to watch the OGs do their thing, but one of them decided to give a piece of their mind about this move and it's none other than Nicholas Hoult, the most recent actor for Beast.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor discussed the news of Grammer returning to his role of Beast. In it, he fully confirmed that he will not be returning at all for Phase 6 of the MCU. He then added that he is 'excited' to see Kelsey don the blue make-up.
'Kelsey was a great Beast,' said Nicholas Hoult. 'He was the Beast I saw when I was a kid, along with the other actors that they're bringing back, Patrick and Ian and James and all them. Those were the characters that I got to watch in X-Men movies. I'm excited to see what they do with it. It'll be fun to see how they incorporate those characters into that world.'
Though it is saddening to know that Hoult will not be returning to the MCU anytime soon, it is quite understandable as to why. There's no denying that names such as James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, and Alan Cumming have a more potent nostalgia factor when it comes to older fans and have a greater legacy compared to the 'X-Men' prequel stars. It is also worth mentioning that the series' last film, 'Dark Phoenix', ended with more of a whimper rather than a triumphant roar before Fox was ultimately acquired by Disney, ending the series entirely.
However, hope is not lost yet, as Hoult has yet to have any discussion with Marvel. Though the possibility of him returning is unlikely, it is not impossible. Remember: as grand as 'Avengers: Doomsday' is, it is still a precursor to 'Avengers: Secret Wars', and Disney is simply keeping the prequel stars as an ace in their back pockets.
Matt Reeves & Mattson Tomlin Complete 'The Batman: Part II' Script
After almost three and a half years, Matt Reeves has finally completed the script for Robert Pattinson's 'The Batman'. Yes, it is quite hard to believe after so many delays and pushbacks, but it is real this time. And the proof can be found in Matt Reeves' official X post, where he and co-writer Mattson Tomlin can be seen in the background with the completed script taking centre stage.
Of course, even though the script has been officially penned, we still have no info about what it contains. Naturally, coming out fresh from the oven, the two writers have not yet decided or locked in on any other new casting that we might see for this upcoming sequel.
Pair this up with the release of James Gunn's 'Superman' being just around the corner, and we can't help but feel or hope for a potential crossover event between these two DC titans! Of course, we still need to see how things shake out before we start daydreaming about any collaboration movies. We'll get to see the Caped Crusader swing into cinemas again on 1st October, 2027.

‘Weapons' holds its ground as horror fans keep coming back for more

LOS ANGELES, Aug 18 — Buzzy horror film Weapons won the North American box office for a second week running with US$25 million in ticket sales, industry estimates showed Sunday. The Warner Bros. movie starring Julia Garner (Ozark) and Josh Brolin (Avengers: Infinity War) tells the story of the mysterious disappearance of a group of children from the same school class. Analyst David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research called it a 'strong' week-two performance, especially in a quiet summer weekend at the movies in the United States and Canada. Holding in second place was Disney's Freakier Friday starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, the much-anticipated sequel to the 2003 body-swapping family film, at US$14.5 million, Exhibitor Relations said. Debuting in third place was Universal action sequel Nobody 2, starring Bob Odenkirk of Better Call Saul fame, at US$9.3 million. 'Critics like this story about a workaholic assassin trying to take a vacation with his family while getting caught up in trouble. Reviews and audience scores are both very good,' Gross said. The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Disney's reboot of the Marvel Comics franchise, dropped to fourth place at US$8.8 million. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Emmy winner Ebon Moss-Bachrach star as the titular team of superheroes, who must save a retro-futuristic world from the evil Galactus. Universal's family-friendly animation sequel The Bad Guys 2, about a squad of goofy animal criminals actually doing good in their rebranded lives, dropped to fifth, earning US$7.5 million. Rounding out the top 10 were: Superman (US$5.3 million) The Naked Gun (US$4.8 million) Jurassic World: Rebirth (US$2.9 million) F1: The Movie (US$2.7 million) Coolie (US$2.4 million) — AFP

LOS ANGELES: Horror thriller Weapons has secured the top spot at the North American box office for the second consecutive weekend with $25 million in ticket sales. The Warner Bros. production stars Julia Garner from Ozark and Josh Brolin of Avengers fame in a chilling tale about the unexplained vanishing of children from the same school class. Franchise Entertainment Research analyst David A. Gross described the film's performance as 'strong' given the typically slow summer movie season in the US and Canada. Disney's Freakier Friday, the long-awaited follow-up to the 2003 hit body-swap comedy, maintained second place with $14.5 million, reuniting Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. Universal's action sequel Nobody 2 debuted in third place with $9.3 million, featuring Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk as an assassin struggling to enjoy a family holiday. 'Critics like this story about a workaholic assassin trying to take a vacation with his family while getting caught up in trouble,' Gross noted. Disney's The Fantastic Four: First Steps slipped to fourth place with $8.8 million, showcasing Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby as Marvel's iconic superheroes battling Galactus. Universal's animated sequel The Bad Guys 2 dropped to fifth with $7.5 million, continuing the adventures of reformed animal criminals doing good deeds.
