[UPDATED] Drugs found on man who stabbed cop
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay revealed this after visiting the wounded policeman at the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit of Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) UKM in Cheras here today.
"The suspect has a criminal record of 14 prior offences for crime and drugs.
"The majority of the crimes were violent offences," he said, nodding when asked if the suspect was considered a habitual offender.
Police believe he behaved aggressively because he was in possession of drugs at that time, Ayob added.
Other senior policemen who visited Corporal Mohd Nadzri included acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, Bukit Aman Management Department deputy director Datuk Azizee Ismail, Wangsa Maju police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Lazim Ismail and Cheras police chief Assistant Commissioner Aidil Bolhassan.
Meanwhile, Ayob said Nadzri was expected to recover from his injuries in two weeks.
"It will be some time before he is back on active duty as he has been through a lot, considering the surgery.
"Based on the doctor's briefing, he suffered a 3cm gash that penetrated 7cm into his abdomen.
"No other vital organs were injured, except for his intestines. He is being monitored for internal bleeding."
Asked if Nadzri was wearing a body-worn camera (BWC) at the time of the incident, Ayob said he was not.
"We have requested that all our motorcycle patrol and patrol car unit personnel, as well as those on crime prevention rounds, be equipped with BWCs.
"Such incidents show the importance of having these BWCs. Hopefully we will get enough of these to equip these personnel soon," he said, adding that 7,648 BWCs are already being used.
He said there were plans to roll out another 10,000 units for phase two of the project.
Nadzri was stabbed while conducting a routine crime prevention patrol at the Pudu Market area on Thursday.
The incident occurred around 12.55pm when the victim and four other officers were inspecting a suspect on Jalan Yew.
The suspect suddenly attacked Nadzri with a knife, stabbing him in the abdomen before fleeing.
Nadzri was rushed to HCTM UKM for emergency treatment.
Acting on information, police caught the 56-year-old suspect shortly after the incident.
A search later found a knife measuring approximately 21.5cm and three transparent plastic packets containing yellowish powder and chunks, suspected to be drugs.

Police probing Parliament scuffle that left officer injured
Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said a report has been lodged regarding the incident which resulted in an officer requiring medical treatment. PETALING JAYA : Police are investigating a commotion during the submission of a memorandum and a draft bill outside Parliament which is said to have left a police officer injured today. Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said a report had been lodged regarding the incident. The police officer required medical treatment. Fadil said the case is being investigated under Section 353 of the Penal Code for the use of criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty, and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief. Section 353 provides for a jail term of up to two years or a fine, while Section 427 provides for a jail term of not less than a year and not more than five years, a fine, or both, upon conviction. In a statement, Fadil referenced a video on TikTok which saw participants of a gathering 'provoking and forcefully breaching' police officers who were on duty during the event at Jalan Parlimen. He said police respected the public's right to express opinions and to assemble peacefully, and were committed to playing their role as a facilitator at such events. '(But) these rights should be exercised responsibly and prudently,' he said. 'Firm action will be taken against individuals or groups who instigate chaos or engage in excessive provocation.' Earlier today, FMT reported that more than 100 plantation workers from Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Kedah and Johor marched from Taman Tugu in the capital to Parliament to submit a memorandum on housing and a draft bill making it compulsory for estates to provide homes for local plantation workers. Police blocked the group from gathering at Parliament's gates but later allowed the workers to hand over the documents to deputy law and institutional reform minister M Kulasegaran and opposition chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan.

RM1,000 hit job: Segamat fire death linked to Singapore debt scam, say Johor police
JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 13 — The death of a 72-year-old woman in a fire at Kampung Bukit Siput in Segamat on July 25 is believed to be linked to debts owed by her family to a Singapore-based debt scam syndicate. Johor police chief Ab Rahaman Arsad said investigations revealed that the victim's house was targeted by a man hired for RM1,000 by the syndicate to burn down the homes of borrowers who failed to settle their debts. The newly appointed state police chief said initial investigations by police and the Fire and Rescue Department found criminal elements at the scene. 'This prompted a special investigative team at the state police contingent level. 'Based on information and intelligence gathered over a week, investigators managed to arrest a 21-year-old local man and his 19-year-old girlfriend in Subang Jaya, Selangor. Both are believed to be the suspects,' he told reporters at the Johor police contingent headquarters here today. Also present were senior officers involved in the investigation. Ab Rahaman said items seized from the suspects included a Perodua Bezza car, mobile phones, gloves, lighters, pieces of cloth and oil drums. 'Further investigations found that the suspect had been active in committing treacherous crimes involving fire around Johor and Selangor since July. 'The debt scam syndicate is believed to be based in Singapore, but the operations were carried out by hired locals. 'The borrower in this case is a family member of the victim, but the victim herself never received any threats,' he said. Ab Rahaman said police have filed four investigation papers under the Penal Code. These include Section 304B for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, Section 436 for committing mischief by fire, and Section 507 for criminal intimidation. He said a total of 13 charges will be brought against the male suspect — nine at the Segamat Magistrate's Court on Friday, and the remaining four at the Johor Bahru Court once proceedings in Segamat are completed. 'Although two people were arrested, only the male suspect will be charged. The female suspect was released on bail as a prosecution witness,' he said.
