Kerala's rich cultural traditions take centre stage in ‘Ente Keralam' procession
Organised as part of the fourth anniversary celebrations of the State government, the parade turned into a massive public celebration with an estimated 15,000 participants.
Starting at Naikkanal around 4:30 p.m., the vibrant procession concluded at the Thekkinkadu Maidan's Student Corner, leaving behind a trail of cultural richness and communal harmony.
With traditional panchavadyam leading the way, the parade brought together all grama panchayats, municipalities, and block panchayats from across the district. Government employees from various departments joined with tableaux and visual installations, showcasing the State's achievements and culture.
Adding to the visual grandeur were shows of vattamudiattam, theyyam, poothan, folk dance forms, kalaripayattu, colourful balloons, nashik dol, chendamelam, and symbolic representations of farmers bearing ploughs.
Highlights included performances by the Dheeram Karate team of the Kudumbashree Mission, Rangashree drama troupe, a 'Grama Vandi' from Muriyad grama panchayat, and an energetic flash mob, all of which drew enthusiastic applause from the public.
The procession was led by leaders including Ministers K. Rajan and R. Bindu; MLAs A.C. Moideen, E.T. Tyson Master, Xavier Chittilappilly, Murali Perunelli, and U.R. Pradeep; district panchayat president V.S. Prince, vice-president Latha Chandran, District Collector Arjun Pandian and Sub Collector Akhil V. Menon.

Kudumbashree's ‘Jana Galsa' to give tribal art forms a new lease of life
The Kudumbashree mission has launched a new initiative 'Jana Galsa' in an attempt to breathe new life into tribal art forms of the State. Jana Galsa, which means people's celebration in the Paniya tribal language, is intended to transform indigenous art forms into viable enterprises that can ensure livelihood for the tribal people and bring them income. It will be used as a medium for public awareness campaigns and even integrated into school curricula. The first phase of the project involves creation of a comprehensive directory of tribal art forms and artistes across the State through a survey, to be conducted through animators who belong to the Scheduled Tribes. The survey is expected to be completed by August 20. The Kudumbashree plans to set up a State-level consortium that incorporates the art forms that have been revitalised and transform them into models that can generate better employment and income. The project also aims at using the tribal arts forms for bring about changes in the curricula. Steps will be taken in association with the General Education department to include tribal art, culture, rituals and traditions, and indigenous cuisine into the curriculum to make the younger generation aware of their lives. The initiative will also be linked to anti-drug campaigns and other social awareness drives. The Kudumbashree's theatre group Rangashree, along with cultural tourism centres, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, Kerala Institute for Research Training and Development Studies of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (KIRTADS), and the Folklore Academy will also support the project.

The Hindu journalist receives ITFoK media award for best reporting
Mini Muringatheri, Special Correspondent, The Hindu, received the media award for best reporting (print) for the International Theatre Festival of Kerala (ITFoK) for the year 2024. Minister for Higher Education R. Bindu presented the award at the closing ceremony of the three-day National Percussion Festival on Sunday (July 13, 2025). The award carries a cash prize of ₹10,000, a memento and certificate.

Kairali-Sree theatre reopens on July 1 with a modern makeover
Kairali-Sree Theatre complex is reopening after a stunning renovation. The revamped twin theatre complex, under the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC), will be officially inaugurated on July 1 by Minister for Cultural Affairs Saji Cherian. The modernised facility now boasts world-class features including RGB 4K Laser Projection, Hugo Silver Screens, 36-channel Dolby Atmos sound system, pushback and platinum sofa seats, along with a fully accessible and inclusive design. Kairali Theatre now seats 519 viewers, including 33 platinum sofa balcony seats, while Sree Theatre accommodates 327, including 36 platinum sofa seats, taking the total seating capacity to over 800. The venue also includes air-conditioned baby feeding rooms, lifts, cafeteria, waiting areas, guest rooms, modern restrooms, and vehicle parking facilities. The inaugural ceremony will be presided over by Minister for Revenue K. Rajan, with Minister for Higher Education R. Bindu delivering the keynote address. With a glorious legacy and cutting-edge upgrades, the Kairali-Sree Theatre is set to reclaim its role as a cultural hub and a favourite destination for cinephiles in Thrissur.
