Hollywood star Anne Hathaway appears in high spirits as she poses in Arsenal shirt ahead of her beloved team's match against PSG

Daily Mail29-04-2025

Anne Hathaway appeared in high spirits on Tuesday as she prepared to watch her beloved team Arsenal take on PSG.
The Hollywood actress, 42, posed in the team's red shirt, with a cream and orange New York jacket on top.
Anne accessorised with stylish shades and a cap, and captioned the fun Instagram post: 'Quite a Tuesday...' with a heart-eye emoji.
The Devil Wears Prada star previously declared her love for Arsenal when a video went viral of her celebrating Leandro Trossard scoring against Wolves last season.
Trossard subsequently sent Anne a video message, as he said: 'Hey Anne, I really loved your celebration the other day for my goal.
'Keep supporting us, and hopefully we'll see you soon at the Emirates.'
Anne watched the video with her The Idea of You co-star and fellow Arsenal supporter Nicholas Galitzine, and said she was 'shaking' after being left stunned that Trossard had got in touch.
Tuesday night's Champions League clash between Arsenal and PSG will involve not just two of the game's biggest clubs, but two of its most fashionable.
Arsenal and PSG have become two of the game's most stylish outfits thanks to a series of brand deals, celebrity endorsements, and how they dress.
Declan Rice's side quest as a London Fashion Week model, walking the runway pitchside at the Emirates Stadium, sent a strong message: as a club, we are bold, glamorous, and high-profile.
The Gunners have hoovered up celebrity fans from Anne, to Dua Lipa, to Lewis Hamilton, to Andy Murray, to long-serving matchgoer Keir Starmer.
Before hammering Real Madrid 3-0 at the Emirates, they shared a video featuring an array of celebrity fans: Idris Elba, Will Poulter, Nicholas Galitzine, Marisa Abela, Aurora and ODUMODUBLVCK were all involved. This is an image Arsenal are clearly leaning into.
In an era of globalised fandom, this stuff matters. Anne's support for the north Londoners has generated countless headlines this year.
Her rendition of The Angel, the club's anthem, was shared with her 36 million Instagram followers, helping the club reach a new audience.
Dua Lipa grabbed a photo with Riccardo Calafiori - a picture shared by the club - and celebrated their historic win over Madrid with actor fiance Callum Turner, despite previously showing an affiliation with Liverpool.
And so PSG have their own army of celebrity fans from across the world - F1 star Pierre Gasly, actor Leonardo DiCaprio, NFL legend Tom Brady, singers Beyonce and Pharrell Williams, and basketball ace Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Ask Rihanna and she might have split loyalties - the pop star has previously declared herself a fan of Arsenal and Manchester United, while she has also attended PSG's Parc des Princes before.
It's a similar story with Kim Kardashian, who has been a guest of honour for PSG while also watching Arsenal and posing with their kit. Fickle?
It's hard to explain exactly why these celebrities have these associations. DiCaprio has been pictured at PSG multiple times, even taking girlfriend Camilla Morrone to watch them against Liverpool in 2018, but there's no apparent reason for his connection.

Jorginho leaves Arsenal, signs for Flamengo before Club World Cup

June 7 (Reuters) - Italy midfielder Jorginho has joined Brazilian side Flamengo ahead of this month's Club World Cup, following a mutual termination of his contract with Arsenal, both clubs said. Jorginho, whose Arsenal deal was set to expire at the end of the month, has joined Flamengo on a contract until July 2028. The 33-year-old Brazil-born Italy international moved to North London from Chelsea in January 2023, making 78 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal. Arsenal finished second to champions Liverpool in the Premier League in the recently-concluded season. "We can confirm that we have reached a mutual agreement with Jorginho to end his contract with immediate effect to become a free agent," Arsenal said in a statement late on Friday. Having started his career at Italian side Hellas Verona before switching to Napoli in 2014, Jorginho won the Champions League, Europa League, Super Cup and Club World Cup titles during his time at Chelsea. Capped 57 times for Italy, he won the European Championship in 2020. "Jorginho's first assignment with Flamengo will be at the Club World Cup," the Brazilian Serie A club said. Flamengo will begin their Club World Cup campaign against Tunisian side ES Tunis on June 16 in Philadelphia. The expanded 32-team Club World Cup runs from June 14 to July 13 in the United States with $1 billion in prize money at stake.

Man plunges 3,000-foot to his death from America's tallest mountain

Tragically the two climbers who were with him at the time witnessed the horror event and were unable to rescue him despite attempting to scale as far down the face as possible A man has tragically died after he plunged 3,000-foot off America's tallest mountain. The devastating incident happened on Monday, June 2 when Alex Chiu, a ski mountaineer from New York, was climbing the West Buttress of Alaska 's Mount McKinley, formerly known as Denali. He was attempting the climb 'un-roped' with two others. ‌ The 41-year-old's body was found on Wednesday after he fell toward the Peters Glacier, an exposed rocky 3000-foot face, according to the Denali National Park Service. Tragically the two climbers who were with him at the time witnessed the horror event and were unable to rescue him despite attempting to scale as far down the face as possible. ‌ After their attempts to rescue their fellow climber failed the pair then descended the route to get help, but high winds and snow kept rescuers from reaching Chiu until Wednesday morning, reports MailOnline. Chiu had posted about his trip to Denali prior to the tragic incident, including packing, their flight to Alaska and cooking with friends. He had recently moved back to New York City in 2023, according to an Instagram post. Chiu said on Instagram that he had stopped much of his climbing following the pandemic, but had started his return to the sport. He wrote in a caption: "So, tomorrow I am getting on an airplane to Alaska, in an attempt to climb the third highest peak in the world because I don't want to know what happens to a dream deferred." His latest post on May 19 was flooded with comments of love and remembrance from friends and followers. One wrote: "Damn I was just told the news. I can't believe it and I'm truly hurting. This man here was always the coolest, supportive and most positive human being. ‌ "I'm so sorry that you will not be able to bring all that goodness that you brought to me and to others anymore, but we will never forget. We really lost a great human being. You will be missed Alex. BR family for life!" Another follower wrote: "Thanks for being such an amazing light and energy Alex. You were always so positive and supportive. Will miss you bud," a third wrote: "Thank you for always bringing so much positivity to the community!! I love you bro! I'm devastated and I just can't believe this is true." A friend of Chiu's, James Lee, told the New York Times: "Alex was a well known and valued member of the Seattle climbing community. He introduced many people to mountaineering and rock climbing and could be found mountaineering, skiing or rock climbing on most weekends." With a peak at 6,190 meters (20,310 feet), Alaska's Denali has the highest elevation in North America. Sixty million years ago, tectonic uplift pushed Earth's crust upward, forming Denali and the other Alaska Range mountains. Denali is the centerpiece of the Denali National Park and Preserve, which spans 2.4 million hectares (6 million acres) of land.
