Trial date set for alleged drunken driver in double-fatal crash on Planz Rd

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A trial date is scheduled in April for a man authorities say was impaired by alcohol and marijuana when his SUV plowed into a car, resulting in two deaths, in February of last year.
An April 7 trial date was set Wednesday in the case against Arturo Munoz. He's charged with two counts of murder, among other crimes, and faces a life term in prison if convicted.
Munoz, 26, has been held without bail since his arrest.
2nd arraignment postponed for driver facing murder charges in Planz Rd crash
On the night of Feb. 9, 2024, Hortencia Garcia De Haro, 30, died when Munoz's Chevy Tahoe broadsided her Chevy Malibu. Vanessa Lasarit Madrigal, a passenger in the Malibu, died days later. Another passenger was injured.
It's alleged the Tahoe was traveling faster than 85 mph when the collision occurred on Planz Road between Hughes Lane and South H Street.
Munoz has three prior drunken driving convictions, two in 2017 and the third in 2018.

According to police, the driver of the Sedan was attempting to pull into the Taco Bueno parking lot when the truck, traveling westbound, collided with them.
