ITV Emmerdale fans call for 'tedious' storyline to end

Rhyl Journala day ago
Those who watch the ITV soap have been discussing the plot surrounding Joe Tate and the recently returned Dr Crowley.
The pair has a previous history together as part of Joe's previous kidney transplant story.
Now, the doctor, played by James Hillier, has returned to seek revenge.
A post shared by Emmerdale (@emmerdale)
James Hillier's character last appeared on the ITV soap back in March.
Joe was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and hired the shady doctor to treat him and secure him a kidney transplant.
After Joe's paternal half-uncle, Caleb Miligan, was found to be a donor match, his kidney was taken after he was stabbed.
Following this, Dr Crowley transplanted it into Joe before fleeing the country, and that was the last heard from him... until now.
Having returned to the soap this week, Joe was knocked unconscious and woke up in a makeshift hospital room to find Crowley.
He revealed that he gave Joe an epidural and "numbed the lower spine, along with the upper, near the base of the skull", meaning Joe was left paralysed.
It was revealed that Shaun, who arrived with Joe's laptop, had been secretly working for Crowley.
Despite originally refusing, following the threat of torture, Joe reveals the passwords and Shaun transfers £105,000 to Crowley's account.
Following Dr Crowley's return on the ITV show, fans have been discussing the ongoing storyline, and some are not impressed.
It's that time again… the Inside Soap Awards 2025 are here - and the Village needs you! 💚

Maya Jama's footballer boyfriend Ruben Dias publicly drops the 'L bomb' as he shares a look at their romantic getaway

Maya Jama 's footballer partner has publicly dropped the 'L bomb' as he shared a glimpse of their recent trip to Florida to Instagram on Monday. The Love Island host, 30, has been dating Ruben Dias, 27, for several months and recently confirmed their romance on social media. The pair have appeared to have gone from strength to strength with the sportsman flying out to Spain to support Maya while she is filming the popular ITV show. As she shared an album of fun snaps soaking up the sun, Ruben also shared some moments with Maya. Alongside the post Ruben confirmed his love for the star and penned: 'Sun, love, crocodiles, some fits and one advice.' And Maya appeared to approve of his sweet declaration as she commented with a love heart and fire emoji. The couple are believed to have met after the stunner caught the Portuguese player's eye when they met at the European Music Awards (EMAs) in November. Their romance was finally confirmed after they were seen packing on the PDA at KSI 's Baller League event in April. And posting a snap with her new boyfriend for the first time, Maya looked incredible in a triangle bikini while soaking up some sun on a boat. She was later diving into the water while Ruben filmed her from the top deck. Maya went Instagram official with her boyfriend Ruben earlier this year, when she shared a video for the first time. The TV star was all smiles in the clip as she sat alongside the footballer in a car heading back to her house. The presenter has been seen at multiple football games over the last few months to watch Dias live in action for Man City. Footage of the pair last month showed them with their arms around each other before he leant into her neck for a peck. Ruben tried to fly under the radar and keep a low profile as he stepped out in casual clothes and a cap. A source told The Sun: 'Maya and Ruben seemed very close, very loved up and were clearly very comfortable with each other. 'They were chatting to others around them but gravitated back to each other. They seem very happy with each other.' It was the first time they were seen in public since they were thought to have started dating - though Maya has often hinted at the romance by sharing snaps of flowers she has been sent.

Emmerdale new café owner sealed after Brenda update - and it's a familiar face

Emmerdale's latest episode saw Nicola King learn some shocking news about Brenda Walker and the café, with a new owner identified following an exit earlier this year There was some sad news about Brenda Walker for residents on Emmerdale on Monday. Amid the character leaving for a cruise months ago on the ITV soap, a decision was made about her beloved village café. The ITV soap confirmed a permanent exit for the character earlier this year, with actress Lesley Dunlop leaving the role. ‌ Brenda went on a three-month cruise with her stepdaughter Cathy Hope, with it thought it was just a trip away. But fans know she isn't returning, with it yet to be explained what leads to her not coming back, while Cathy will be back later in the year. ‌ In the meantime, Nicola King has been running the café and when new staff member Lewis Barton brought some success to the place with new menus and by encouraging people to spend a little, Nicola was seen frustrated at Brenda getting all the rewards. So on Monday night Nicola wanted an update on when Brenda would be back to share the load. She tried and failed to get in contact with her over the phone, including by message. She even tried to call Cathy but failed to get through to her. ‌ As she vented to husband Jimmy King about Brenda not being around yet getting all the perks of the café's newfound success, Cathy's dad Bob Hope arrived with some news. He and Lewis walked in together, and it emerged Lewis had been on the phone to Brenda. Nicola was confused by this but was more interested in speaking with Brenda. She wanted to know when she might be back and wanted to make contact, but Lewis said there was no need. It's then that it became clear in a sad update that Brenda was selling up, and was ditching the café. It wasn't mentioned that this would also lead to her not coming back, so perhaps the character is undecided. ‌ But what she did say to Bob and Lewis offscreen was that she was going to sell the café to a new owner, and no longer wanted to run the place. Nicola was shocked, but also she seemed interested in who the buyer could be. She was possibly hoping she might have a chance to fully own the place only for her to be left reeling when she found out who Brenda had decided to sell to. It was none other than Lewis, played by Bradley Riches, who announced he was the chosen person to buy the café. While he didn't say he was definitely buying it from her, he did heavily hint this would be the case. Nicola couldn't believe it when Lewis declared that after speaking to Brenda, her absence would no longer be an issue and that she was selling to him, with him planning to take over the ownership after his recent success - but will Nicola accept this change? Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.

Shark! Infested Celebrity Waters: Meet Helen George

You may know her best from hit show Call The Midwife, but now Helen George is swapping the streets of Poplar for a very different destination. Jetting off to the Bahamas, the actor is taking part in ITV's brand new Shark! Infested Celebrity Waters - and it'll be far from an easy ride. Bimini, the island where the show is filmed, is home to around seven to 10 different types of sharks - including bull sharks, great hammerhead sharks, tiger sharks, and Caribbean reef sharks. Rather them than us... Here's everything to know about Helen George - including who she's dating, her health battle, and the deep-rooted fear that inspired her to get up close and personal with some real life sharks. Helen is a British actor best known for starring in shows including Call The Midwife, as well as her stage career in musicals such as The King and I. The Birmingham-born star studied at the Royal Academy of music, and was previously a backing singer for Elton John! Born on 19th June 1984, she's currently 41 years old (and an enthusiastic, quick-witted Gemini)... Since the debut of BBC's Call The Midwife in 2012, Helen has won over fans with her portrayal of Trixie Aylward (formerly Trixie Franklin.) Over the years, viewers have followed Trixie through her struggles with alcohol addition, before recently marrying Matthew Aylward (played by Olly Rix) and stepping into the role of stepmum. Helen stars in the BBC show as Nurse Trixie ©BBC Helen was previously married to actor Oliver Boot, with the couple together from 2012 to 2015. Their split came just weeks before the Call The Midwife star appeared on 2015's Strictly. Partnered up with professional dancer Aljaž Škorjanec, Helen finished sixth in the 13th series of the dancing show. Helen first met her co-star Jack on the set of Call The Midwife in 2015, with Jack playing the role of Reverend Tom Hereward. While Trixie and Tom certainly had an up-and-down onscreen romance, it was said Helen and Jack fell head over heels in love with each other while filming the 2016 Christmas Special in 2016. The couple welcomed daughter Wren in 2017, before the birth of their seconds daughter, Lark, in 2021. However, Helen and Jack revealed that they were calling it quits on their seven year relationship in 2023. A shared statement read, 'Some months ago, we separated. Our beautiful girls remain the focus, and [we] respectfully ask for privacy for this next chapter.' Helen with Jack in 2017 ©Getty Earlier this year, reports surfaced that Helen had found love with divorced dad of two Dan Innes. The businessman is 11 years her senior, with the couple reportedly meeting on celebrity dating app Raya. It's thought the pair are still together. Opening up Dan's reaction to her stepping into shark-infested waters, Helen shared, 'I hadn't even told Dan how scared of the water I was, and he was like, "But you got in the sea on holiday in Cornwall with me? I didn't know you were so scared." Sharing water with some sharks is enough to strike fear in anyone. But for Helen, there's another reason why the ITV show is a big step out of her comfort zone. The star suffers from aquaphobia - an intense and irrational fear of water that was triggered following a traumatic experience at a swimming party when she was a child. Opening up about her phobia, Helen shared, 'I was terrified of putting my head underwater. I have a real deep-rooted fear. I used to love the water when I was really young, but I went to a swimming party when I was six. They put those weird Nineties foam mats down. They're massive yoga mats, really. 'I just remember this moment of being stuck underneath one and not being able to get out. There was that fear of being trapped.' Revealing that it was this fear that encouraged her to sign up for the show, Helen explained, 'My kids know that I am scared of the water, and my seven-year-old is more confident in the water than I am, and I realised I've got to do something about that as it's not safe.' During both her pregnancies, Helen faced health battled. The star suffered from intrahepatic cholestasis (ICP), a condition that causes severe itching and led to the premature birth of both her babies. Sharing her ordeal on Instagram during her second pregnancy, Helen later recalled, 'I tried everything - creams, baths, all of it - and nothing would work. I would scratch all day and all night, normally on my hands, shoulders, feet - but that quickly increased to bloody everywhere.' Revealing that she was put onto medication at around 30 weeks, Helen said, 'I have to say this pregnancy was so uncomfortable and painful. I thought the second would be easier, but it really wasn't. Spreading the world about this sometimes fatal condition is really important to me.' And spread the word Helen did! The condition was later featured on an episode of Call The Midwife. Joining Helen for a dip in the sea is comedian Sir Lenny Henry, Amandaland's Lucy Punch, Countdown's Rachel Riley, TV presenter Ade Adeptian, McFly's Dougie Poynter, and stand up comedian Ross Noble. Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters will air on ITV1 and ITVX from Monday 14th July at 9pm. The show will air at the same time every Monday for the next five weeks, also available to stream. Happy watching! Charlotte Roberts is a news and entertainment writer at Grazia UK. She spends her days covering everything celebrity, culture, and entertainment. []{href=' }
