Bengaluru techie got her dream job, but cries alone in her PG every night; Internet feels her pain
Bengaluru
. But for one young software development engineer, the milestone came wrapped in silence. Posting under the username @Confident-Floor-2943 on Reddit, the woman opened up about the emotional toll of living and working in a city that feels anything but home.
'I feel like a ghost,' she wrote. 'Even when I cry or laugh, no one notices.' Her words resonated deeply with thousands who have felt the same in fast-paced cities, far from their families and comfort zones.

As the only woman on a male-dominated team, she said her presence was often brushed aside. 'The guys do not acknowledge me or include me in trivial things,' she wrote, adding that a male colleague who joined with her was treated very differently. With senior members leaving the company, she now feels lost without support or mentorship.
Her post struck a nerve with many. Reddit users flooded the comments with messages of empathy, sharing their own stories of feeling invisible in big cities.
'I'm here for four years now and feel the same,' one user said. 'The city has become very depressing from the core.'
'Everyone goes through this phase,' another added. 'Welcome to adulthood. It's tough, but you're not alone.'
Some urged her to seek help, reminding her that there's no shame in reaching out to a mental health professional. Others suggested finding small ways to reconnect, with a hobby, a local group, or even just a new routine.
Her story is not a one-off. It echoes the experiences of many young professionals, especially women, trying to find their footing in the corporate world. Moving to a new city often brings hope, but also a quiet ache for belonging. The mix of work stress, social disconnection, and the absence of family support can create an emotional void that's hard to fill.
In cities like Bengaluru, where dreams often collide with deadlines, stories like hers remind us to look around, and check in on the people who seem 'okay.' Behind those daily calls and meetings, someone might just be waiting to be seen, to be heard.
Because sometimes, saying 'I feel like a ghost' is the loudest cry for help.

Cut import, increase exports to become ‘vishwaguru': Gadkari
1 2 3 Nagpur: Without directly referring to the ongoing US tariff imposition, Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday said that reducing imports and boosting exports is the biggest patriotism today if India wants to become a 'vishwaguru'. Speaking during the Prof VG Bhide memorial lecture at VNIT, Gadkari stressed that science and technology hold solutions to the country's major problems under the present circumstances. "Knowledge is power. Duniya jhukti hai, jhukane wala chahiye (The world bows, you need someone to make it bow)," he said. "If our scientists and institutions work as per the needs of the country, then the rate of our growth and development will increase thrice. When our economic growth rate and export increases, I don't think we will need anyone's support. Today, those who are bullying others can do so because they are economically self-reliant, and technologically sound. But when we have better technology and resources, we wouldn't indulge in bullying others. Our tradition teaches welfare of the world 'vishwa kalyan'," he said. Paying tribute to Prof Bhide as a good teacher and researcher, Gadkari urged IITs and NITs to focus research on the needs of the nation and find solutions tailored for each state, district, and city. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like These Are The Most Beautiful Women In The World Undo He cited how in Delhi, 80 lakh tonnes of garbage from four dumps was used to make roads. He emphasised the importance of ethics, economy, and ecology, adding that technology should be used in Swachh Bharat to create value from waste. Recalling a remark by former RSS chief late KS Sudarshan, Gadkari said the import of fossil fuels must end to curb global terrorism. India spends Rs 21 lakh crore annually on importing fossil fuels, but farmers can help reduce this dependency. He pointed to the rise in corn prices after ethanol production began — from Rs 1,800 per quintal (MSP) to Rs 2,800 — and said corn plantation has tripled. He also cited progress in bio-ethanol, isobutanol (as an alternative to diesel), and bio-aviation fuel from rice straw, with the govt financing marine engine production by Kirloskar. Calling for indigenous technology, Gadkari said Bhide's research remains a guiding light. He lamented that research centres have not worked enough on hyperlocal problems but praised VNIT's ongoing work. Sharing an example from Covid times, he said a unit to treat black fungus-related blindness was set up in Wardha after he intervened for licensing. Gadkari added that the New Education Policy has incorporated science with values and culture, and called for a futuristic vision, futuristic implementation, and a self-reliant society in the coming years. MBA grad turns waste into art, inspires sustainable change
Bhubaneswar: In the heart of Cuttack, a remarkable transformation is taking place. Lipsa Behura, a 30-year-old MBA graduate, is turning society's castoffs into captivating works of art, proving that one person's trash can indeed become another's treasure. It all started in 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic cast its shadow. While many sought conventional career paths, Lipsa chose to venture down a road less travelled. Fresh out of her MBA in marketing, she founded "Beyond Waste", a startup that would soon become a beacon of sustainable innovation. "It was not just about creating art. It was about creating change," said Lipsa. What began as a two-person operation has now blossomed into a seven-member team of skilled artisans, each sharing her vision of environmental conservation through creative expression. Their art workshop in Cuttack has become a laboratory of innovation where discarded papers, cardboards, glass, and bottle caps undergo magical transformations. In their skilled hands, these waste materials find new life as elegant pen stands, striking wall hangings, and eye-catching decorative pieces. Lipsa's thoughtful approach to sustainability extends beyond mere recycling. She consciously avoids using plastic in her creations, understanding that transforming it into art might actually contribute to microplastic pollution. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Invest Your Money on Cyprus and Get the Most out Of the Experience Cyprus Invest | Search Ads Undo "True sustainability requires careful consideration of long-term impacts," she said. The impact of Beyond Waste hasn't gone unnoticed. Unicef has repeatedly commissioned the team to decorate their annual youth conference in Odisha, a testament to their growing influence and quality of work. This year, the team has made waves with their eco-friendly rakhi collection. Their handcrafted offerings, including seed rakhis, paper rakhis, and terracotta rakhis, captured attention in metropolitan cities like Pune and Bengaluru, showing that sustainable alternatives can successfully compete in the mainstream market. As urban India grapples with mounting waste management challenges, Lipsa's initiative offers a blueprint for combining entrepreneurship with environmental responsibility. Through Beyond Waste, Lipsa is proving that environmental consciousness and aesthetic appeal can go hand in hand. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Festival discount: Railways to start round trip offer
NEW DELHI: In a bid to manage heavy passenger rush during the Diwali-Chhath festival season, the railways has said it will introduce a "round trip package" scheme with 20% discount on base fare of tickets on a pilot. The scheme can be availed by passengers who book their return journey within a set time period and for the same class with the same origin and destination. The scheme is applicable to all trains, excluding 'flexi fare' trains, meaning passengers taking Rajdhani, Tejas, Duronto, Shatabdi and Vande Bharat services can't avail the discount. Ticket booking for the scheme will start on Aug 14 for travel between Oct 13 and Oct 26. Subsequently, return journey tickets can be booked using the connecting journey feature for the train start date between Nov 17 and Dec 1. The mandatory norms of 60 days for advance reservation period will not be applicable for booking return ticket. This initiative is being carried out to avoid rush, ensure hassle-free booking, redistribute peak traffic during the festival season and ensure both side utilisation of trains, including special trains, the ministry said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like These Are The Most Beautiful Women In The World Undo It said the discount will be only for round trip. There will be no refund of fares for cancelling tickets booked under the scheme, and passengers can't make any modification in a ticket. The provisions of no return of fare, even partial refund, for cancelling such tickets, these tickets have to be booked months before scheduled travel, and discount can be availed only when one gets a confirmed ticket could discourage people from availing the scheme, a former senior railway official said.
