In-N-Out heiress Lynsi Snyder defends decision to move family out of California amid expansion: ‘It's tough here'

New York Post4 days ago
Billionaire In-N-Out Burger heiress Lynsi Snyder fired back at critics who called for a boycott of the popular fast-food joint after she revealed she was moving her family from California to Tennessee.
'Where I raise my family has nothing to do with my love and appreciation for our customers in California,' Snyder said on Instagram Monday.
Snyder doubled down on her decision to move out of the Golden State, shut down an office in Irvine, Calif., and open a new 100,000-square-foot office building in Franklin, Tenn., just south of Nashville.

'This is part of a healthy plan for our growth and also, you know, there's so many opportunities for people to own homes in Tennessee and even some of the surrounding states that we could possibly end up in,' Snyder said.
'It's tough here in California and this doesn't have to do with my love or loyalty to the state and our customers. But I love our associates and I would love to offer them this…. the dream of a family and a home is more feasible for them there.'
Snyder insisted, 'We never forget our roots,' and reminded betrayed burger lovers that In-N-Out's corporate headquarters will still be based in California.
'We're not moving In-N-Out Burger's corporate headquarters,' Snyder added. 'In addition to our Baldwin Park office, we're expanding with an Eastern Territory office in Tennessee to support our growth.'
Snyder, who has served as the company's president since 2010, sparked online backlash when she admitted that raising a family and 'doing business' wasn't 'easy' in California.
4 Snyder responded to backlash in an Instagram reel.

She discussed 'so many pressures and hoops' the company had to 'jump through,' including crime and previous coronavirus restrictions — while she expressed excitement about moving to Tennessee, which has no state income tax and affordable housing.
'It will be wonderful having an office out there, growing out there and being able to have the family and other people's families out there,' the married mother of four told Allie Beth Stuckey's 'Relatable' podcast on July 19.
Some customers accused Snyder of turning her back on the state that built In-N-Out Burger, which was founded by Snyder's grandparents Harry and Esther Snyder in 1948.
'Time to boycott in n out,' a social media user wrote on X.
'This sounds so ridiculous and tone deaf,' another X user commented. 'The California economy helped her family become what it is.'
Others sided with Snyder and embraced In-N-Out's expansion.

'I don't blame her. California is not business-friendly at all,' another person wrote.
In-N-Out Burger locations are set to open in Tennessee by 2026. She's rejected invitations to open In-N-Out locations in Florida and in various states on the East Coast.
'I'm very proud of where In-N-Out started,' Snyder said. 'Anyone who knows me knows how often I talk about our beginnings and how our Customers here in California helped bring us to where we are today. We've been expanding into new states since 1992, and we've stayed consistent with our standards for growth. Opening an office far from our roots is something new and exciting. It brings incredible opportunities for the people we love and the Customers we serve.'

Former employee sues Major League Soccer for discrimination

Major League Soccer executives undermined a black marketing director after he complained that they gave a promised promotion to a white colleague — then fired him, he claimed in a lawsuit. Cedric Shine, who began at MLS in December 2022 as a brand marketer, was fired in May after months of poor treatment from top bosses at the soccer league, he said in a July 18 Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit. Shine, 41, said he was told he was about to be given a new job as senior director of marketing for the league when new direct supervisors were installed in February. 3 Cedric Shine was hired by Major League Soccer in 2022. Cedric D. Shine/ LinkedIn But days later, the new bosses reversed course, he said in court papers. 'The decision to block Shine's promotion came mere weeks after Shine's new supervisors terminated one of the few Black Directors in the Marketing Department, Justin Cox,' according to the lawsuit. The higher level job was instead given to 'a Caucasian MLS Marketing Director,' Shine said in the legal filing. When he complained to MLS' human resources department about the move, 'and its racial implications,' Shine was promoted 'over his supervisors' objections' — triggering a 'campaign of retaliation against him,' he claimed. Bosses berated him, lied about him showing up late for work, slashed his marketing budget and would abruptly leave events he organized, leaving MLS corporate partners and MLS executives 'in attendance to question why marketing leadership was leaving the event and reflected extremely poorly on Shine,' he said in the litigation. 3 Shine claims he was the target of retaliation at work. Cedric D. Shine/ Instagram Questioning 'their views' on his performance 'would be frowned upon' and that he 'would be seen as someone who lacks the ability to accept constructive criticism,' bosses allegedly told Shine, he claimed in court papers. When other officials and MLS higher-ups ignored his complaints of retaliation, 'Shine attempted to schedule a meeting with MLS Deputy Commissioner Gary Stevenson, who oversaw the leadership team that had been retaliating against Shine.' Instead of a meeting with Stevenson, Shine was fired, according to the lawsuit. 3 Shine said his bosses lied about him arriving late for work. Cedric D. Shine/ Instagram 'As a proximate result of MLS' conduct, Shine has been adversely affected in his employment and career, emotional well-being, the quality of his life and in his normal life's pursuits, and Shine believes MLS' conduct … has and will continue to have a negative effect upon him.' Shine is seeking unspecified damages. The league, which has instituted anti-racism campaigns in the wake of several high profile incidents, denied Shine's accusations. 'Shine's allegations of retaliation have no merit and the League intends to vigorously defend the recently filed lawsuit,' MLS said in a statement, adding the league is committed 'to providing an equitable and inclusive environment.'

Free Raising Cane's for National Chicken Finger Day 2025: How to get deal

National Chicken Finger Day is this Sunday, July 27, and fast food chain Raising Cane's has a freebie offer for customers to celebrate the occasion. The company said in a news release on July 16 that it is offering a free chicken finger to all customers who purchase a Box Combo on July 27. This marks the first time the company is making the deal available to all customers and not just Caniac Club loyalty members, the company said. The restaurant chain created the fictional holiday in 2010 and even trademarked the phrase "National Chicken Finger Day" in 2019, according to a news release, and touts that it has given away more than 150,000 chicken fingers on the day alone. Raising Cane's says it has over 900 locations in more than 40 states, and plans to open more than 100 new restaurants "across several new markets" in 2025. New Raising Cane's locations: Raising Cane's is opening 5 restaurants next month. Did your state make the list? When is National Chicken Finger Day? National Chicken Finger Day, which is Sunday, July 27, is an unofficial holiday created by Todd Graves, the founder of Raising Cane's, in 2010 to "recognize and celebrate (the chain's) delicious chicken fingers," the company says on its website. (The event is not to be confused with National Chicken Wing Day, which is Tuesday, July 29.) The chain has tapped rap legend Snoop Dogg to help spread the word about National Chicken Finger Day this year. The rapper will feature in a Christmas-in-July-themed ad spot where he rolls up in a Cadillac sleigh and swaps "ho ho ho" for "yo yo yo" while delivering chicken fingers. Are any other restaurant chains celebrating National Chicken Finger Day? While Wing Stop is not offering any deals or discounts on the day, the chain announced on July 24 that it had filed an application to trademark the phrase "National Chicken Tender Day," which it says is on July 27, in an apparent jab at Raising Cane's. 'Some say that chicken fingers, strips and tenders are the same, but Wingstop isn't buying it,' said Wingstop's Chief Revenue Officer, Mark Christenson, in a news release. "By filing a trademark application to register 'National Chicken Tender Day,' Wingstop is giving the finger to fingers and staking our claim on our distinctive crispy tenders that fans crave.' Meanwhile, Orlando-based restaurant chain Huey Magoo's is also celebrating National Chicken Finger Day by giving away five free Tender Bites with the purchase of any three-piece or larger Tender Meal on July 27.
