Puri superintendent of police, Pinak Mishra, said that the investigation was proceeding towards its conclusion and they were also looking into who recorded and circulated a video clip showing the injured girl speaking, which went viral on Sunday.
The incident dates back to 19 July, when the girl's mother filed an FIR at Balanga police station alleging that her daughter had been kidnapped and set on fire by three persons on the banks of the Bhargavi river.
With 70% burns, the teenager was airlifted to AIIMS-Delhi the following day, but she died on 2 August.
Hours after her death, police stated in a post on X, 'According to the investigation conducted so far, it is clear that no other person is involved.' Her father also remarked, without elaborating, that his daughter was 'under mental pressure and took her life'.
Responding to circulating social media posts where the girl was heard speaking about the incident, Mishra appealed for restraint.
'Please do not pay attention to such posts. I also appeal to all that one should refrain from forwarding such sensitive content involving a minor victim,' he said.
The SP added that the investigation was almost complete, with police awaiting reports from the forensic science laboratory before submitting a charge sheet in court.
'Initially, there were some specific allegations, which had also been part of the FIR. On that day when the victim was being shifted to the hospital, she had made a similar statement.

I think the video that has gone viral was made that day,' Mishra explained.
He further noted, 'We are probing into who actually recorded the video and how it went to social media. This was a confidential matter.' Mishra said assistance had been sought from the cyber team and warned against sharing any material involving the minor.
'Since the victim is a minor, her name or video involving her should not go viral. This is a violation of the Juvenile Justice Act,' he said, adding that the victim's final statement had been recorded in the presence of a judicial magistrate.
'We have followed complete transparency in the investigation. The family members of the victims were aware of it. Therefore, I appeal again to ignore the social media video on this matter,' Mishra reiterated.
Meanwhile, the political row over the case escalated as senior BJD leaders Lenin Mohanty, Ipsita Sahoo and Subrat Chhatoi accused the BJP government of protecting those responsible for the incident.
'We demand a judicial inquiry into the matter and resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida as the incident took place in her Nimapara assembly constituency. A judicial probe will reveal the truth as the police's role is also suspected,' Mohanty said at a press conference.

‘Zero tolerance...': Mahindra Group assures of strict action after employee issues ‘rape & death' threats against MP
The Mahindra Group issued a statement on Monday regarding the 'undignified and highly inappropriate messages' allegedly posted by one of its employees toward a political leader on Facebook. This comes a day after Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Sulata Deo alleged that Mahindra's Nashik branch manager and a BJP worker, Satyabrata Nayak, sent her rape and murder threats on Facebook. In an official statement, the Mahindra Group said an immediate investigation is being conducted 'with utmost seriousness' and assured that strict action would be taken should the allegations be validated. The company said it has 'zero tolerance for any form of misconduct, intimidation, or threats' and has 'always enshrined the importance of human dignity.' According to media reports, no police case has been registered yet. The BJP MP is 'waiting for the law agencies to take suo motu cognisance' of the matter. In an X post, Sulata Deo on Sunday shared screenshots showing comments in an Odia-English mix targeting her. 'Dear PMO INDIA, a worker of Mahindra Company, Nasik, as well as a BJP worker, openly threatens a Woman MP to rape and kill. If this is the situation, imagine what happens to the unprivileged women of Odisha!!!,' she wrote while tagging BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in her post. The threats were reportedly made in response to her Facebook post on a video statement of the minor girl of Odisha's Puri district, who died of burn injuries at AIIMS New Delhi on August 2. In the purported video, the girl can be heard saying that three unidentified youths with their faces covered abducted her and set her on fire when she was returning home on July 19. This was also the content of her mother's FIR registered at Balanga Police Station on the same day. Her father also said, without elaborating, that his daughter was 'under mental pressure and took her life'. LiveMint could not independently verify the authenticity of the video. Asserting that the statement in the video does not accurately represent her actual testimony, the police said it wanted to know who recorded the video and how it went to social media. Mahindra Group statement read: 'We have been made aware of certain undignified and highly inappropriate messages allegedly made by one of our employees towards a political leader on Facebook. Mahindra has zero tolerance for any form of misconduct, intimidation, or threats. The Mahindra Group has always enshrined the importance of human dignity from its very foundation and believes in upholding an environment of respect, with no tolerance for any breaches of these principles We take this matter with utmost seriousness and have initiated an immediate investigation. Should the allegations be validated, strict action will be taken in accordance with our code of conduct and values.' Sharing Mahindra Group's statement on X, Sulata Deo said it was 'reassuring' to know that the company had started an investigation into the matter. 'That said, I will not remain silent and fight to the core against this type of mindset against women and children. Waiting for the law agencies to take suo motto cognisance of the said matter,' she added. 'India would be safer for women if the mindset against women were benign. Let's fight against this malignancy,' the BJD MP wrote, while extending gratitude to social media users for their 'tremendous support'. She said that she would raise the issue in the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament and file a police complaint.

‘Quota anomalies' in 69K teachers' recruitment in UP: Candidates protest outside minister's place
Alleging reservation scam in 19,000 posts in 69,000 assistant teacher recruitment, a large number of candidates from reserved categories staged a protest outside basic education minister Sandeep Singh's residence at Mall Avenue here on Monday. Policemen taking away one of the protestors in Lucknow on August 18. (HT photo) From there, police sent them to Eco Garden in vehicles. The education directorate at Nishatganj was turned into a fortress in the wake of the protest. 'We have not yet got justice in this recruitment,' the protesters claimed. They said if the government does not take the initiative for hearing in the Supreme Court and keeps getting dates after dates from the apex court, they will stage sit-in protests every day in Lucknow and also gherao the residences of BJP leaders. Talks were held with additional chief secretary, basic education, Deepak Kumar, on the issue but nothing came out of it, said one of the protesters Dhananjay Gupta. On the call of Pichda Dalit Samyukta Morcha's state president Sushil Kashyap and state patron Bhaskar Singh, the 'aggrieved' candidates claimed to have sent hundreds of letters to the Chief Justice of India in which it was, as per the protestors, clearly stated that for the last 12 months the plaint of the candidates was not being heard in the Supreme Court and dates were being given one after the other due to which they were very upset. The protesters said in such a situation, the apex court should start hearing their case so that they can get justice. Sushil Kashyap and Bhaskar Singh alleged that in the said recruitment, OBC category has been given only 3.86% reservation instead of 27%, SC category has been given only 16.2% reservation instead of 21% and thus in this recruitment, Basic Education Rules 1981 and Reservation Rules 1994 have been violated. They also alleged that the original selection of this recruitment was not being made public for the last 5 years despite the order of a division bench of the Allahabad high court issued on August 13. 2024, 'which shows that there has been a huge reservation scam in the said recruitment'. Basic education department officials said the matter was pending in the court and they will abide by the order of the Supreme Court.

AAP hits out at Delhi, Central govts for failing to ensure security to students
New Delhi, Aug 18 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today criticized the BJP-led central and local governments, accusing them of failing to ensure security in the national capital. Two schools and a college in Dwarka received bomb threats today, reigniting concerns over the safety of students in Delhi. Soon after this the AAP trained its guns on the BJP government. Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal questioned the lack of progress in investigations, saying on social media, "Delhi schools are repeatedly targeted with such threats, yet not a single culprit has been caught, nor has any action been taken to date." He blamed the BJP's "four-engine" governments — referring to the party's rule at the Centre, Delhi Lieutenant Governor's office, Municipal Corporation, and neighboring states for the alleged law and order breakdown. Atishi, AAP leader and leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, echoed the concerns, saying, "Children and parents are living in fear, but BJP's governments have failed to provide them security." She also criticized Delhi Police that functions under the Union Home Ministry, for its inability to prevent recurring threats. Anurag Dhanda, AAP's national media in charge, claimed that despite persistent threats over the past two years, the police under Home Minister Amit Shah has been unable to do anything. Other party leaders, including Jasmine Shah and MCD leader of Opposition Ankush Narang, highlighted the prolonged nature of the issue, with Narang calling the BJP's governance in Delhi a "complete failure."
