Robert makes a huge sacrifice to save himself from John in thearly ITVX release

Metro4 days ago
In the latest early-release episode of Emmerdale on ITVX, Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) finds himself facing serious consequences following a violent altercation with his half-brother John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth).
The incident leaves John shaken and injured, waking up in the hospital to the reality of what happened. Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) visits John during his hospital stay, pleading with him to consider the impact of reporting Robert to the police.
She urges John to think carefully about protecting Robert and the potential fallout for their family if the matter goes public. Despite Victoria's heartfelt appeal, John returns home still grappling with his feelings and soon uncovers dashcam footage that clearly shows Robert striking him, turning what seemed like a private family dispute into undeniable evidence of violence.
Meanwhile, Robert is not only dealing with the fallout of the attack but also feels mounting pressure from Ross Barton (Michael Parr). Ross warns Robert to tread carefully, cautioning him about the serious consequences that could follow if the situation escalates further.
Recognising the gravity of the situation, Victoria steps in to offer Robert practical advice: he needs to make amends with John before the police get involved and the family fractures beyond repair. More Trending
Taking this advice to heart, Robert visits John in the hospital. Robert offers a sincere apology, expressing remorse for his actions and begging John to reconsider reporting him to the authorities. In a surprising move to convince John, Robert makes a significant sacrifice; he promises to stay away from Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) and gives John his solemn word that he will end the relationship.
This can't have been an easy deal for Robert to make, given his history with Aaron. However, it may be the only way for him to avoid legal repercussions.

ITV shares first-look at Game of Thrones star's 'intoxicating' new thriller

The six-part thriller is set to air later this year, starring The Walking Dead's Andrew Lincoln and Indira Varma. ITV has unveiled the first glimpse of its upcoming thriller, Coldwater. The six-part series, set to premiere this autumn, stars Andrew Lincoln of The Walking Dead fame and Indira Varma from Obsession. ‌ Set in the fictional Scottish village of Coldwater and filmed in and around Glasgow, the plot revolves around Andrew's character John, who finds himself at the heart of eerie occurrences as past traumas resurface. ‌ John relocates his family to the rural tranquillity of Coldwater in an attempt to distance themselves from London. However, he soon grows frustrated with his mundane existence as a middle-aged stay-at-home dad, his suppressed anger threatening to disrupt his life as he knows it. ‌ Following an identity crisis in London, where John failed to intervene in a violent playground confrontation, he yearns for a more peaceful future for his family, only to encounter further disturbances in Coldwater. Upon arrival, he quickly forms a friendship with his next-door neighbour Tommy, portrayed by Ewen Bremner. Tommy is a charismatic, self-assured man and a dedicated husband to the local vicar Rebecca, played by Eve Myles, reports the Express. ‌ On the surface, Tommy appears to be a man of faith, a community stalwart, and the self-proclaimed leader of the village's all-male book group. Initially impressed and somewhat intrigued by Tommy, John soon finds himself ensnared in his web. ‌ Meanwhile, his spouse Fiona, portrayed by Indira, harbours deep resentment towards him following their relocation to Coldwater, as what was meant to be a fresh start has utterly failed to rekindle their deteriorating relationship. As her husband grows increasingly close to their mysterious new neighbour, Fiona's alarm bells begin ringing and she starts questioning whether Tommy is genuinely who he claims to be. John's long-suppressed fury eventually erupts with catastrophic consequences, leaving him surprisingly beholden to his newfound companion, completely oblivious to the fact that Tommy is concealing deeply disturbing secrets of his own. ‌ It's only when a string of disturbing events begins unfolding that John starts questioning Tommy's true identity. The synopsis hints: "This is the story of a normal man, in a normal marriage, who finds himself in a far from normal situation. ‌ "A man who discovers a newfound sense of his own power, right at the moment he falls under the influence of someone incredibly dangerous." Coldwater has been penned, conceived and executive produced by David Ireland, with Lee Haven Jones (Doctor Who) helming the opening three episodes and Andrew Cumming (Shetland) taking charge of the latter half. ‌ Speaking previously, creator David revealed in a statement: "Cold Water started with a question I was asking myself. Where do I want to live - the countryside or the city? Such an innocent beginning, but from it came this dark, funny, twisted thriller. "I was delighted when Sister loved the script and thrilled when ITV decided to commission it. "And I'm amazed we've managed to attract such a peerless cast, led by the formidable Andrew Lincoln. I hope viewers will find it intoxicating." Coldwater is set to premiere on ITV1, ITVX, STV, and STV player this autumn.

‘Refreshingly optimistic' superhero series fans say is 'so much fun' now streaming for free

This charming comic book series is now on ITVX and is the perfect follow-up for fans of the new Superman movie ITVX is currently streaming all six seasons of a popular superhero drama that took the comic book fandom by storm over the past 10 years. ‌ Following the adventures of one of the most beloved heroes from the pages of DC Comics, it's a must-watch for any fans of the latest big screen Superman movie which is still wowing audiences. ‌ It originally aired on the CW from 2015-2021 and developed a passionate worldwide following. ‌ Every single episode of Supergirl is now available to watch completely free of charge after recently being added to ITVX. Starring Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El, aka Kara Danvers, the young hero and cousin of Superman vows to become her city's protector while juggling personal revelations and a series of threats to Earth's safety. ‌ A spin-off from the CW's Arrowverse series based on DC heroes, Supergirl is considered by many to be the best of the bunch as it adapted several fan-favourite stories and characters from the Superman mythos while breathing new life into the iconic tales. Rotten Tomatoes critic Sean Axmaker wrote of the show: 'It's a well-made series with a likable hero, a solid supporting cast, and a sense of optimism that is refreshing next to such dark shows as Gotham.' Steve Wright of SciFiNow agreed with the assessment: 'All in all, it's a solid first outing for Supergirl, and with the series' future now in the hands of The CW, the future looks suitably optimistic.' ‌ Eclipse Magazine went a step further, writing: 'I need a show in my life that's about hope. 'Supergirl provides just enough sugar in an otherwise bleak diet. People used to dark and grim, need not bother, it's not for you. The rest of us will enjoy it for the pure, blissful fun that it is.' ‌ There are also plenty of five-star Google reviews from fans, including from this one who raved: 'Constantly amazed by the wide-eyed and hopeful Kara Zor-El who continues to grow as Kara Danvers, rather than letting her Supergirl persona take over. 'Benoist and her supporting cast constantly put on spectacular performances that are sure to touch your hearts. 'Superman aside, make way for Supergirl, the hero that everybody needs and deserves.' And a final fan claimed: 'This has become my favourite show ever, I have watched it 6 times and it still hasn't got old for me.' With House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock stepping into Supergirl's red boots for the foreseeable future, comic book fans now have the perfect opportunity to brush up on the hero's earlier adventures. Supergirl is available to stream on ITVX.

ITV confirms Big Brother 2025 start date and 'new look' for show

Big Brother UK will return later this year and fans should gear up for the show having a completely new look It's been a whirlwind few hours following the Love Island final, and the excitement doesn't stop there. ITV has now confirmed the return of Big Brother later this year, with a brand new look for the 2025 show. ‌ The upcoming series, which has been confirmed by the broadcaster to air in September, will mark its third instalment after having switched from Channel 4 back in 2000. A fresh batch of contestants will enter the house, under Big Brother 's watchful eye. ‌ Presenters AJ Odudu and Will Best will return to screens, with the show tipped to offer fresh twists, elaborate challenges, intense nominations and live evictions, as the housemates compete for the all-important cash prize. ‌ ITV shared some exciting teasers for fans of the popular reality show during the ad break for Love Island, including images of the revamped colourful eye logo, suggesting that the wheels are already in motion. One of the most exciting parts of Big Brother for fans is the big house reveal, which always switches up theme every year in a bold and stirking new design, so we will need to keep our eyes peeled for those updates. ‌ Meanwhile, Big Brother Late and Live is also set to return, offering an additional serving of exclusive Big Brother content, including heated discussions and hot takes from the celebrity guest panel. And those who like to indulge in 24/7 action will be glad to know that the Live Stream will also return, airing seven nights a week exclusively on ITVX, following the extra drama and gossip of Big Brother Late and Live. ‌ While the exact premiere date for the new series remains unconfirmed, it's believed to launch either on Sunday, September 28 or Monday, September 29. The 2024 series crowned Ali Bromley as the champion, securing a staggering 52 per cent of the final vote. The latest Celebrity Big Brother series also captivated audiences worldwide when it aired earlier this year with a string of well-known faces. ‌ Coronation Street's Jack P Shepherd clinched the title just months ahead of his wedding to Hanni Treweek. However, the spotlight of that series was firmly on Love Island contestant Chris Hughes and singer JoJo Siwa. The pair formed a close bond during their time in the house, although they maintained it was purely platonic. After leaving the show, former Dance Moms star JoJo ended her relationship with Kath Ebbs and soon after went public with Chris. Romantic sparks are not uncommon among housemates, with Jordan Sangha and Henry Southan also striking up romance during the 2023 series. However, the pair announced their surprising separation in April. There's no doubt eagle-eyed fans will be on the lookout for yet more romance as the 2025 series returns later this year.
