A 'fascinating' true-crime series about one of the most notorious serial-killers in history has soared up the rankings on Netflix.
Mixing present-day interviews with previously unheard recordings, Conversations with a Killer: The Son of Sam Tapes examines David Berkowitz's mark on 1970s New York.
Now 72, Berkowitz carried out a murderous 13-month rampage in the American city between 1976 and 1977, during which he killed six women and wounded eleven others.
Armed with a .44 Special calliber revolver for most of his crimes, eventually he was arrested in August 1977 for eight shootings. He confessed to them all and was sentenced to six consecutive life sentences in 1978.
Now, Netflix's new three-part series features audio of past interviews the killer did with Rochester Democrat and Chronicle journalist Jack Jones.

It also contains a new interview with Berkowitz, who is serving a life sentence in upstate New York.
As well as this, victims' loved ones and researchers shed light on this period in New York history.
Reacting to the series on X, many fans have highlighted the new information it provides.
@maoshisa1981 described it as a 'fascinating listen', adding: 'The unreleased Berkowitz recordings sound like a chilling deep dive into the case.'
Meanwhile, @CriticSusan added: 'Conversations with a Killer: The Son of Sam Tapes may be one of their best true crime docu-series. @Netflix.'
Towards the beginning of the series, viewers are shown how the Bronx native was adopted in 1953 before he became the '.44 Caliber Killer' and 'Son of Sam' due to the signature he left on letters at crime scenes and sent to media outlets.
When Berkowitz was finally arrested and put on trial, he claimed his neighbor's dog, Sam, was possessed by a demon and commanded him to kill.
But, in an interview from 1980 we hear how Berkowitz fabricated this story to create confusion and manipulate the media and law enforcement.
A character playing Berkowitz also featured in another Netflix series by David Fincher called Mindhunter, which ran for two seasons.
In June it was teased that the rudely axed series could be getting a Hollywood makeover for a film revival.
There is a potential to bring back the show as not only one movie but an entire trilogy, with creator Fincher carefully vetting the scripts. More Trending
Holt McCallany, who starred as FBI special agent Bill Tench, recently spoke to the Fight Club director.
'I had a meeting with David Fincher in his office a few months ago, and he said to me that there is a chance that it may come back as three two-hour movies, but I think it's just a chance,' he told CBR.
'I know there are writers that are working, but you know, David has to be happy with scripts.'

Major Coronation Street legend teases ‘fun' return after 21 years

Suranne Jones has sparked a wave of excitement among Coronation Street fans after revealing she wouldn't rule out a return to the soap that helped launch her career. In a recent interview with The Times, the actress said she'd be open to stepping back into the role of Karen McDonald more than two decades after she last appeared on the cobbles. 'Why not?' she said, adding that, with so many years gone by, 'it might be fun.' Suranne first joined Coronation Street in 2000 and quickly became a household name thanks to her explosive performance as Karen, the fiery and ambitious wife of Steve McDonald, played by Simon Gregson. Their on-screen chemistry, along with Karen's sharp wit and fierce personality, made her one of the show's most iconic characters of the early 2000s. Jones left in 2004 and has since gone on to build a highly respected career, with standout roles in Doctor Foster, Gentleman Jack, Save Me, and the Netflix thriller Hostage. Reflecting on her time on the soap, Suranne admitted to The Times that while she once would have dismissed the idea of going back, her perspective has shifted over time. 'I'd have said no years ago,' she said. 'But maybe now. I think it would be interesting.' Her comments come at a time of major change for Coronation Street. This year alone, several long-time cast members have announced their exits, including Helen Worth, Sally Ann Matthews, Charlotte Jordan, Shelley King, and Colson Smith. Most recently, it was confirmed that Sue Devaney's character, Debbie Webster, will be written out in a long-running dementia storyline that's expected to conclude in 2027. This comes just weeks after Suranne Jones opened up in a Celebrity Angels interview about the challenges she faced early in her career. Reflecting on that time, she said, 'It was huge. The paps were chasing us; it was just a different time. It was not fun, not when you're young.' She added, 'It was around the time of people needing to look a certain way, and all of that ring of shame, that's the era that we're talking about.' Continuing, Suranne revealed, 'I was in the press a lot back then, and I had people outside my house. I was being followed.' View More » With all the changes happening on the Cobbles, the idea of Suranne Jones popping back in as Karen feels like something fans could really get behind. She brought a fiery spark and sharp humour that a lot of viewers say has been missing lately. A comeback wouldn't just be nostalgic; it could actually bring a bit of that old Corrie magic back. Nothing's confirmed, of course, but with Suranne saying she's open to it, it's fair to say the door isn't entirely closed. And honestly? Fans love to see it. Virgin River star shares rare childhood insight as fans blown away by 'special' moment

Colin Lawrence, who plays Preacher in Netflix's Virgin River, shared an emotional message with fans as he recently returned to his birthplace Virgin River favourite Colin Lawrence has posted a heartfelt message on Instagram following an emotional journey to London this week. ‌ The star, who plays John 'Preacher' Middleton across all six series of Netflix's beloved romantic drama, has just finished shooting the forthcoming seventh instalment. ‌ Series seven will continue from where Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) wed Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), though their wedding celebrations turned to chaos when Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) seemingly vanished. ‌ Elsewhere, Preacher avoided prison for accidentally killing violent Wes (Steve Bacic) whilst his romance with firefighter Kaira Bryant (Kandyse McClure) continues to flourish. With countless viewers eagerly awaiting Virgin River's comeback in the coming months, Lawrence disclosed he had recently visited his birth city of London as part of a European holiday, reports the Mirror US. ‌ Posting a series of touching photographs of his family in the capital, he penned: "The first stop on the European vacation is England, where I was born. "I haven't been back since I was a little boy. It was fun to play tourist and I even got an opportunity to visit the home I lived in as a child!" He concluded with a moving message: "Not gonna lie, that was something special." ‌ The pictures included a beaming selfie featuring the actor alongside wife Lucia Walters and their two daughters, plus a snapshot of his former family residence. Lawrence's followers were clearly moved by the glimpse into the star's homecoming journey, flocking to the comments section to share their heartfelt messages. One Instagram user responded: "Beautiful family! Enjoy your vacation! Safe travels." Another person wrote: "Gorgeous family! The girls are all grown up and so beautiful! Looks like a fun trip!" ‌ "Wow, that must have been emotional!" a third chimed in. "And lovely that you could come back to visit." Hope you had a great time." Lawrence's character Preacher quickly won over audiences when Virgin River first launched on Netflix in 2019. Ever since, he's remained a constant presence supporting Mel and Jack whilst navigating his own personal turmoil throughout all six seasons of the increasingly beloved streaming hit. Alongside the forthcoming seventh instalment, Lawrence is set to reprise his role for the recently announced eighth season, expected to land in late 2026.
