, the maker of India's fastest-growing
single malt brand
Indri, on Thursday announced the launch of its latest creation,
Indri Agneya
, a
lightly peated single malt whisky
.
Crafted in the village of Indri in Haryana, Agneya gets its name from the Sanskrit word meaning 'belonging to fire.' The whisky carries a whisper of peat smoke layered over a complex profile built from aging in both Sherry and Bourbon casks, the company said in a release. The result is a warm, balanced dram with subtle smoke, rounded spice, and a lingering finish.

'With Indri Agneya, we set out to push boundaries,' said Surrinder Kumar, Master Blender at Piccadily Agro Industries. 'We wanted to explore the untapped space between the familiar and the unexpected. Agneya introduces a new conversation, a whisky that hints at smoke and spice, while still retaining the warmth and complexity that defines Indri's house style.'

Unlike heavily peated Islay-style whiskies, Agneya uses indigenous six-row barley gently kilned over peat smoke to create a lightly smoked spirit. It's matured in American oak, both ex-Bourbon and Sherry casks, which adds richness without overwhelming the senses.
On the nose, it opens with nuttiness and ripe fruit; on the palate, it offers a smooth, layered texture and finishes with elegant, lingering smoke.
Live Events
This makes Agneya a compelling choice for whisky drinkers curious about peat but hesitant to dive into more phenolic-heavy styles.
Agneya is the second major single malt offering under the Indri label, following the success of Indri-Trini, a triple-cask matured malt launched in 2022. The new release not only differentiates itself from its predecessor but also signals Piccadily's growing confidence in crafting whiskies that resonate both locally and globally.
More than a product launch, Agneya is part of a broader ambition to place India firmly on the global whisky map. Piccadily says the brand represents a commitment to innovation and terroir-driven spirits that rival top-tier malts worldwide.
Indri Agneya is currently available in Haryana at a minimum selling price (MSP) of ₹3,800. It will soon be launched in premium retail outlets across India, global travel retail, and select international markets in the coming months.
Piccadily Agro Industries
Limited (PAIL), a publicly listed company, operates primarily in two sectors: distillery and sugar. Its 168-acre facility in Indri, Haryana, houses advanced production systems for malt, extra neutral alcohol (ENA), ethanol, and sugar.
In addition to its single malt portfolio, Piccadily also produces blended malt whiskies and Camikara, an aged rum made from sugarcane juice. Since the launch of Indri in 2022, the company has embraced premiumisation, helping it become India's fastest-growing single malt brand by 2024.
With Agneya, Piccadily is betting big on India's evolving whisky palate—and looking to make smoke and spice part of the mainstream conversation.

Is starting a business more rewarding than studying at Harvard? Why one student is considering betting big on India's growth story
A 26-year-old Harvard MBA candidate is thinking of quitting the programme to move to India. Her friend posted on X, calling her 'very sharp, generalist' and saying she wants to 'bet on the India story.' This isn't a whim — she is exploring operator roles in Seed, Series A or Series B startups and inviting founders and VCs to reach out. The post struck a chord. AI and infra B2B leaders rushed to the comments. One wrote, "Great decision. If she is interested in working on the frontlines of the AI/infra B2B market in one of the fastest growing markets at one of the best positioned startups to win this space. It would be great to be introduced." They see real potential. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo Voices urging caution Not everyone agreed with stepping away from Harvard now. "If she's a close friend, tell her not to drop out. Period. The India story is multidecadal; there will still be many many years to bet on it after a year or two." India's startup ecosystem is substantial and growing. As of mid-2025, India hosts around 120 unicorns privately held companies valued over $1 billion, placing it among the top global ecosystems, as per previous news reports. From 2014 to mid-2024, startups in India attracted more than $150 billion in funding. Top hub, Bengaluru, Delhi NCR and Mumbai, garnered nearly 90 per cent of that. India recognised over 159,000 startups by mid-2025. Since 2016, those startups generated 1.7 million direct jobs and nearly half are in tech, as reported by a Business Insider report. In Hyderabad, STPI's network has backed over 1,400 startups through funding and facilities, with 44 per cent led by women. And these startups raised more than ₹574 crore, as per The Times of India . Venture funds are pouring in. Artha India Ventures closed a ₹432 crore fund to back Series B and C firms, as per an earlier report by The Economic Times . Bat VC launched a $100 million fund to support early-stage AI, fintech and enterprise startups across India and the US, according to the Business Insider . She'd be jumping into a rich and expanding ecosystem. India is not just producing unicorns, it is building structures. Thousands of jobs. A surge of funding. More diverse regions now getting attention, not just big cities. The advice she's getting captures it all. One view says don't rush. India's growth isn't one moment in time, there will be chances afterward. The other side sees less waiting, more doing. And both have something real.
