What's for Dinner at the 2025 Met Gala?

Vogue06-05-2025
For the 2025 Met Gala, the food needed to be just as fine as the fashion itself—which is why Vogue asked James Beard Award-winning chef Kwame Onwuachi to create this year's menu.
'I was inspired by Black dandyism and the Black experience in fashion—it's pulled from so many different avenues and routes of the diaspora,' says Onwuachi, whose critically acclaimed restaurant, Tatiana, was named as the best in New York City by The New York Times. 'I wanted to encapsulate all of that, from the hors d'oeuvres to plated dinner at the gala.'
But most importantly? It needed to be delicious. 'We can be poetic as we want, but it has to be good at the end of the day,' Onwuachi says. At cocktail hour, waiters passed around elevated soul food on silver trays: think hoecakes with crispy chicken, mini chopped cheeses, cornbread topped with caviar, as well as curry chicken patties. (The latter is a twist on Tatiana's famous curried goat chicken patties.)
Just after 8 p.m, dinner began in the Temple of Dendur with a first course of papaya piri piri salad—a celebration of the famous South African spice—alongside cucumbers doused in a Caribbean green seasoning marinade. For dinner, waiters served creole roasted chicken with lemon emulsion, rice and peas, and a fresh hot sauce. Meanwhile, BBQ collard greens with bacon and cornbread with honey curry butter were offered as a sides. Then came the sweet final touch: a 'Bodega Special Cosmic Brownie' with a powdered sugar donut mousse as well as a golden cake with honey sweet cream and blistered gooseberry. 'All throughout the meal, there are different aspects of blackness throughout the world represented at the highest level,' he says.
Guests like Pharrell Williams and Janelle Monáe enjoyed it all while sitting next to the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Temple of Dendur. A painting by Cy Gavin—'Untitled (Sky)'—was projected in the grand room. All of this was surrounded by a set made to look like elaborate cabinetry one would see at London suit shop, complete with sconces from Ysaac de la Puente at Lionsgate Antiques NY.'The idea was to really create a very sophisticated English tailor,' the Met Gala's event planner, Raúl Àvila, tells Vogue. (The concept is a nod to the origin of Black dandyism, which the author of Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Identity pinpoints to 18th-century England.) A memorable dinner, indeed.

Kim Kardashian Trades Her Natural Dark Hair for Bombshell Blonde in Dramatic Transformation: ‘About That Time'

NEED TO KNOW Kim Kardashian shared an Instagram post on Aug. 15 revealing that she has blonde hair again She captioned her post, "About that time" Kardashian has gone blonde several times in recent years and went platinum at the 2024 Met Gala Kim Kardashian is ditching her dark hair for blonde yet again! In a Friday, Aug. 15, Instagram post, the Kardashians star, 44, shared a photo that showed her in the process of getting her hair styled. Instead of her natural glossy, dark locks she's been rocking as of late, Kardashian's hair is now an ash blonde with root shadow. The SKIMS founder's hair was half styled into loose braids and had a silver clip to keep a section of her hair in place. Kardashian puckered her lips and gave the camera a smoldering look. "About that time," she captioned the image, adding a blonde-haired woman emoji. Though the reality TV star didn't reveal if the new hair change was a wig, the background of the picture showed several rows of hair extensions that matched her new and improved hair color. Kardashian has gone blonde several times over the past few years. In 2024, she sported a bright platinum blonde shade for the Met Gala to celebrate the opening of the "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" exhibit at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. She paired the platinum blonde hair with a sheer Margiela by John Galliano dress featuring a lace train with floral accents. The dress also had a silver corset that shrank her waist by several inches. In 2023, Kardashian surprised fans by briefly going honey blonde at the GQ Men of the Year event. She wore the honey blonde hair parted down the middle and styled straight, allowing the hair to hang down to the middle of her back. She coupled the transformation with a chocolate brown Chrome Hearts halter-neck dress. The 2022 Met Gala saw Kardashian going platinum blonde yet again, this time, to channel Marilyn Monroe for the opening of the "In America: An Anthology of Fashion" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. She wore her hair slicked back into a tight bun and wore the exact dress that Monroe wore while singing "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" to John F. Kennedy for his 45th birthday in 1962. In her sister Kylie Jenner's Married to the Met video, Kardashian revealed that the platinum blonde transformation took her 14 hours to achieve. Her hairstylist, Chris Appleton, later told Vogue that the hair change was also done to honor Monroe. "The hair look was simple to highlight the platinum color, giving the hair color and dress the attention," Appleton told the outlet at the time. "I wanted it to be iconic to Marilyn, but also iconic to Kim when she has her blonde moment." Read the original article on People

'And Just Like That' costume designer never told series was ending

It's the end of the road for New York's iconic fictional fashionista, Carrie Bradshaw. The 'Sex and the City' spinoff series 'And Just Like That' ended after three seasons on Thursday night — concluding the franchise starring Sarah Jessica Parker, which first premiered on HBO in 1998. Now, costume designer Molly Rogers is revealing that she was never officially told the franchise was over. 12 Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw in the 'And Just Like That' series finale. Craig Blankenhorn/HBO Max 'It wasn't like HBO sent an email saying, 'pack your bags,'' Rogers exclusively told The Post. 'I think that's the only way these days to keep something a secret. Total blackout,' she added. 12 'And Just Like That' costume designers Danny Santiago and Molly Rogers at an event for ''And Just Like That' on June 8, 2023 in New York City. 'I read it and I started thinking,' oh yeah.' There were a lot of little underlying – I feel like – subliminal messages. No one said it [was the end], but in my mind, I always imagined that Carrie would be happily by herself the last time we saw her.' HBO didn't announce that Season 3 would be the final season before it premiered. Showrunner Michael Patrick King and star Sarah Jessica Parker both shared the news on social media on Aug. 1, just two weeks before the series finale aired. 12 Molly Rogers and Danny Santiago attend the 'And Just Like That' Season 2 Special Screening at The Bvlgari Hotel on June 26, 2023 in London, England. 'Which I'm for. I appreciate it,' she said. She added, 'I'm glad, I might have been weeping as I chose the last shoe, or something. I think it's better to be in the dark, and just think of it fondly, and that you gave it your best shot – even not knowing it was the last shot.' Now streaming on HBO Max, the series finale of 'And Just Like That' ends with Carrie alone in her apartment, apparently at peace with being single. In the final shot, she dances around, clad in a sequined pink top and a long pink tulle skirt. 12 Sarah Jessica Parker, in her final Carrie Bradshaw outfit in the 'And Just Like That' series finale. Craig Blankenhorn/HBO Max Rogers, who also worked on 'The Devil Wears Prada' and 'Ugly Betty,' told The Post that the sparkly pink top came from Parker herself. 'That last scene, [I was] kind of thinking it could be the end, but even if it just ended up being the end of Season 3, I thought it has the nod to the original tutu,' she said, referring to the tutu that Carrie wore at the beginning of 'Sex and the City.' She explained that the skirt is by Molly Goddard, and she found it in a London runway show. 'And because this episode was set on Thanksgiving, it was cranberry. And that [sequined top] was a personal sweater of Sarah's that Lauren Scott had made, a dear friend.' 12 Sarah Jessica Parker in 1998 wearing the tutu in 'Sex and the City.' Fans criticized the outlandish look, but Rogers said the negative reactions 'really perplexed me.' The 'And Just Like That' costume designer said that the show was 'always intended to be a moving fashion magazine.' Referring to how Carrie donned the now-infamous look during a jaunt to Washington Square Park, Rogers told The Post, 'Did the fans of the show want her to walk through the Washington Square Park eating ice cream in a sun visor?' 12 Sarita Choudhury with Sarah Jessica Parker in the famous hat in 'And Just Like That.' Reflecting on her time on 'Sex and the City' and 'And Just Like That,' Rogers said that it was always exciting to find a fashion 'treasure,' and 'to see [Parker] come into the fitting room and squeal, 'Where did you find this?'' Rogers added, 'I am spoiled for the rest of my life. There's no one that puts on clothes like Ms. Parker.' She joked that it would be 'downhill' after the 'SATC' franchise. 'Now, I'll probably be doing some prison show, or something,' Rogers joked.
