5 drivers who could replace Max Verstappen if Red Bull star gets suspended
The FIA hit the Red Bull star and four-time world champion with a 10-second penalty in the race, followed by three penalty points on his super license. That means Verstappen enters the Canadian Grand Prix with 11 points total on his super license in total. F1's rules dictate 12 penalty points in a 12-month period trigger a one-race suspension.

Fortunately for Max, two of his points will expire at the end of June. Unfortunately, he doesn't plan on changing his driving style at all before then. Which means Red Bull must be prepared for the possibility Verstappen is sidelined if he gets assessed another point.
So who drives one of the best cars in the world if Max is out? Here's a look at team principal Christian Horner's best option.
Liam Lawson

The driver of the No. 30 VCARB car would be a natural selection to slot into Max's seat — especially after he impressed Horner in practice last season while driving a Red Bull, leading the team to cut Daniel Ricciardo to make space for Lawson.

Lawson's VCARB teammate might be the better driver this season, but would Red Bull really consider messing with something that's working so well? Hadjar is ninth in the driver standings with 21 points — compared to Lawson's four — and even the Paris native is worried about what a call-up might look like.

'It's a bit scary," Hadjar said Thursday. "I wouldn't feel ready. I'm just nine races in. It looks to be complicated when I look at Yuki [Tsunoda] and Liam, who are very quality drivers. So no, I'm not very ready, but I would always be here for the call, that's for sure.'

Just 17 years old (until August), Red Bull successfully petitioned the FIA to grant the Formula 2 driver a super license prior to his 18th birthday. That might be all the evidence necessary to anoint the rising British star Verstappen's back-up.
Per ESPN's Laurence Edmondson:
[Lindblad] is being lined up to take part in free practice sessions ahead of the August break, but will now also qualify as a reserve driver for Red Bull and its junior team Racing Bulls.
...Although the application for Lindblad's superlicence was submitted before Verstappen received three penalty points at the last round in Spain, he would present an alternative to current reserve Ayuma Iwasa, who is currently racing in Japan's Super Formula.

Well, this one should be obvious, but if Lindblad is getting approval to race it sure seems like Red Bull is content to leave Iwasa in the Super Formula car. That said, he's still on Horner's roster and remains a solid option.

No, don't count on it. Ricciardo hasn't been around the paddock at all lately and it would take a lot from both sides to get the veteran race ready. Still, Horner knows him well and knows what he's getting. If he'd rather put an experienced F1 driver in the car rather than an up-and-comer, there are way worse options.

THOUSAND OAKS, California — Jaime Jaquez Jr., who is preparing for his third season in the NBA with the Miami Heat, and his sister Gabriela Jaquez, a standout player for the UCLA Bruins and the Mexican national basketball team, set aside their own workouts to lead others through some familiar drills. The siblings recently hosted a summer camp for about 180 participants ages 6 to 16 at the Sports Academy facilities in Thousand Oaks. The three-hour camp aimed to promote basketball skills, discipline and a passion for the sport among children and teens. Some participants traveled from other states to attend the camp. 'It's good to come back and give something back to the community, especially in a place where we grew up. Being able to do this is special,' said Jaime, who grew up in Camarillo, shone for four years at UCLA and has represented Mexico in international tournaments. During the event, Jaime recalled his childhood playing basketball 'from dawn to dusk' on the local courts in his hometown. The camp was also a source of inspiration for families. 'It's exciting to see Latino players succeed, one in the NBA and another possibly in the WNBA,' said Armando Castillas of Oxnard, who attended the camp with his children, Logan, 6, and Emma, 10. In addition to leading the camp, the Jaquez siblings are focused on their upcoming professional challenges. Jaime is looking for a season of redemption after a difficult year with the Heat, having been named to the all-rookie team 2023–24. 'It has always been my goal to win championships,' said Jaime, who noted that he preferred to focus entirely on improving with the Heat before making any commitments to the Mexican national team. For her part, Gabriela recently returned from competing in the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup in Chile with the Mexican national team. Heat heading to Puerto Rico for preseason game vs. Magic. Here's Heat's full preseason schedule
The Miami Heat will take a trip to Puerto Rico before the start of the regular season. During a press conference at Kaseya Center on Tuesday afternoon, the Heat announced it will play a preseason game against the Orlando Magic at Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan. The exhibition will be played on Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. and will count as a Heat home preseason game. It will mark the Heat's seventh exhibition game in Puerto Rico in franchise history. The Heat previously played exhibitions in Puerto Rico in 1993 (a win over the Denver Nuggets), two in 1994 (splitting a pair of matchups with the Atlanta Hawks), 2003 (a win over the Philadelphia 76ers), 2005 (a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies) and 2006 (a loss to the Detroit Pistons). Among those in attendance for Tuesday's press conference at Kaseya Center to announce the news were former Heat player and current Heat scout and team ambassador Glen Rice, Heat Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer John Vidalin, Heat Spanish radio announcer Jose Paneda, former Magic player Nick Anderson and Magic Managing Director Ryan DeVos. Including the contest in Puerto Rico, the Heat will play six exhibition games this year. Two of those games will come against the Magic. With the NBA beginning a multi-day rollout of the 2025-26 schedule, the league unveiled the Christmas Day schedule on Tuesday. The Heat again will not be featured on the holiday, as it has played on Christmas Day just twice since 2015. The NBA will announce each team's four group-play games for the in-season tournament on Wednesday. The Heat, which has been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs in each of the last two seasons, is not expected to have many nationally televised games on its schedule for this upcoming season. The Heat will hold its annual media day on Sept. 29 before opening training camp on Sept. 30 to kick off the 2025-26 season.
