The next Golden Bachelor is a 66-year-old former NFL player. Here's everything we know about 'The Golden Bachelor' season 2.

" The Golden Bachelor" has found its next leading man.
On Tuesday, former NFL star Mel Owens, 66, was announced as the star of season two of the ABC reality TV show centered on people finding love in their golden years.
"As the Golden Bachelor, he's eager to meet someone who shares this vision and finally find that perfect teammate he's been waiting for in his golden years," the press release reads.
Details regarding Mel's season are sparse, but here's everything we know so far about "The Golden Bachelor" season two.
Mel was a linebacker for the Los Angeles Rams for 9 seasons
Mel is from Detroit and attended the University of Michigan. After graduating, he was chosen as the ninth overall pick in the LA Rams' 1981 NFL draft. He was a linebacker for the team for nine seasons.
After retiring from football, he became a lawyer
According to his LinkedIn profile, Mel has been a partner at LBO Law, a firm based in Newport Beach, California, since April 2006. However, he didn't fully leave behind the sports world when he pivoted to a career as a lawyer.
Mel represents athletes, specifically concerning injuries, disability benefits, and workers' compensation.
He shares 2 sons with his ex-wife
It's unclear who Owens was previously married to, but the press release says that he met his "first love" when he moved to Orange County, California, to pursue his law career.
They had two sons together and later divorced.
"While life took an unexpected turn with the passing of his father and the end of his marriage, Owens channeled his energy into being the best father he could be, focusing on raising his sons and coaching their extracurricular sports teams," the press release reads.
There's no release date yet for season 2 of 'The Golden Bachelor'
Host Jesse Palmer announced that season two was in the works during Hulu's Get Real House event in Los Angeles in April. The premiere date for the season hasn't been revealed yet, but the show will likely return in the fall, with a timing similar to its inaugural season starring Gerry Turner.

Christian Bale Looks Totally Unrecognizable in New NFL Biopic

Christian Bale has made a career out of disappearing into roles, but his latest transformation may be one of his most dramatic yet. The Oscar-winning actor was recently spotted on the Atlanta set of "Madden," a biopic about legendary NFL coach and commentator John Madden. He's nearly unrecognizable as late Raiders owner Al Davis. People reported that photos from the set show Bale, 51, in full character, wearing a receding hairline wig, bleached eyebrows, leather jacket, black slacks and several championship rings. The era-specific look is a bold and uncanny match for the larger-than-life NFL figure he's portraying. The biopic, directed by David O. Russell, reunites Bale with the filmmaker behind "The Fighter" and "American Hustle." The story follows Madden's rise from Super Bowl-winning coach to beloved broadcaster and namesake of the blockbuster football video game franchise. Nicolas Cage stars as Madden, sporting his own transformation with a wavy blond wig and bright blue tracksuit. Bale's role as Davis is central to the story. Davis was the principal owner of the Raiders from 1972 until his death in 2011 and helped shape the team's famously aggressive identity. He and Madden worked together during the team's most successful stretch, including their victory in Super Bowl XI in 1977. Amazon MGM Studios describes the film as a tribute to Madden's 'remarkable journey,' chronicling his coaching legacy, cultural influence and longtime partnership with Davis. Also joining the cast are John Mulaney as Trip Hawkins, Kathryn Hahn as Virginia Madden and Sienna Miller as Carol Davis. Madden coached the Raiders from 1969 to 1978 and went on to become one of the most recognizable voices in football. He won 16 Sports Emmy Awards, helped launch the Madden NFL video game series and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006. He died in 2021 at age 85. Amazon MGM Studios has not announced a release date for "Madden."Christian Bale Looks Totally Unrecognizable in New NFL Biopic first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 6, 2025

Ski mountaineer from NYC plummets 3,000 feet to death while scaling America's tallest mountain

An experienced ski mountaineer from the Big Apple plummeted 3,000 feet to his death while climbing America's tallest mountain Monday, officials said. Alex Chiu, 41, was scaling the West Buttress route of Alaska's Mount McKinley, formerly Mount Denali, 'un-roped' alongside two members of his expedition when he tumbled toward Peters Glacier, an exposed, ice-covered rock below, according to the National Park Service. The other mountaineers traversed down the hill, located within Denali National Park, to ask for help, but high winds and snow prevented rescuers from reaching the spot where Chiu had fallen. 3 Alex Chiu died while scaling the West Buttress route of Alaska's Mount McKinley ' unroped.' therealchiu718/Instagram Chiu's body was recovered Wednesday morning when the weather cleared and two rangers could use a helicopter to search for the remains. His body was transferred to the state's medical examiner, the park service said. While officials listed him as a Seattle resident, the New York native said in a social media post that he moved back to Brooklyn in 2023. Records also indicate he most recently lived in Brooklyn. In that Instagram post from May 19, Chiu said he was going to Alaska to climb the world's third-highest peak in hopes of recapturing the adventurous spirit he once had while living in Seattle before the COVID pandemic. 'By 2023 I had all but stopped climbing tall peaks and living to tell about it. I moved back home to Brooklyn, NY to be closer to my family and to a new beginning. I had gone tired of pushing my body to the limit, knowing that the consequences could be high with my diminished skillset,' he wrote. 3 Chiu's body was recovered Wednesday morning. National Park Service 3 Mount McKinley is America's tallest mountain. ricktravel – 'I spent the last year working my desk job, running to stay in shape, and after my long runs on Saturdays I always found myself going to the local outdoor retailers REI, The North Face, Arcteryx, I had nothing to buy I just wanted to see the pictures of what I used to do, who I used to be.' A pal, James Lee, told the New York Times that Chiu handled other alpine climbs before he set his sights on Mount McKinley. 'Alex was a well known and valued member of the Seattle climbing community,' Lee said. 'He introduced many people to mountaineering and rock climbing and could be found mountaineering, skiing or rock climbing on most weekends.' Chiu worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as an aerospace engineer, according to his LinkedIn. There are currently 500 climbers on the mountain with the busy season typically between early May and early July, officials said.
