Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Attacked At Public Hearing, Attacker In Custody
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked this morning during a public hearing (Jansunwai) at her residence, leading to injuries on her hand and head. She was rushed to hospital, and doctors are currently monitoring her condition.
The attacker, identified as Rajesh Sakriya from Rajkot, Gujarat, was overpowered by security personnel on the spot and is being interrogated by Delhi Police. According to preliminary reports, his mother claimed he was disturbed over the Supreme Court's order to round up stray dogs and shift them to shelters, noting that her son was a dog lover.
Senior BJP leaders and top police officers quickly reached the Chief Minister's residence following the incident. BJP spokesperson Harish Khurana condemned the attack, demanding a probe into whether it was politically motivated. Delhi minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa also alleged a possible conspiracy by rivals who, he claimed, could not tolerate Gupta's work at the grassroots level.
Opposition leader Atishi from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) strongly condemned the assault, saying, 'There is no place for violence in a democracy. Disagreement and protest are part of democratic values, but violence cannot be tolerated.' She urged Delhi Police to take the strictest action.
Eyewitnesses reported that Sakriya approached the Chief Minister with papers during the hearing and, while speaking to her, suddenly launched the attack. The Delhi Police Commissioner SBK Singh has ordered an inquiry into the security lapse and will personally oversee the investigation.

TMC MLA, councillors get anticipatory bail in 2021 Abhijit Sarkar murder case
In a major relief for Trinamool Congress MLA Paresh Pal and Kolkata Municipal Corporation councillors Swapan Samaddar and Papiya Ghosh, the Calcutta High Court of Thursday granted all three anticipatory bail in the 2021 Abhijit Sarkar murder case. Sarkar, a BJP worker, was killed during the alleged post-poll violence in Kankurgachi after the results of the West Bengal Assembly elections in May 2021. On Thursday, a single bench of Justice Joy Sengupta granted them anticipatory bail with certain conditions. According to the court, if the three, while appearing before the lower court on CBI summons, get arrested, they will be granted bail immediately on a bond of Rs 1 lakh. They will not be permitted to enter Sarkar's house in Shitalatla Lane and will have to cooperate in the investigation. The court added that the witnesses should not be influenced or threatened, and none of the accused can leave the country. Pal, Samaddar and Ghosh moved the Calcutta High Court in July, seeking anticipatory bail in the case. On June 30, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had filed a supplementary charge sheet before the additional chief judicial magistrate (ACJM) of Sealdah court in the case, naming Pal, the Beliaghata MLA, Samaddar, and Ghosh, along with 15 others. Pal and the councillors were to appear before the Sealdah court on July 18. According to the FIR in the case, Sarkar's mother, Madhabi, had stated that on May 2, 2021, eight people allegedly barged into their house at Narkeldanga around 3 pm and started 'enquiring about her son'. The accused alleged that the Sarkars had 'illegally occupied rooms belonging to the railways and started beating up Abhijit, leaving him unconscious'. He was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The CBI began its probe on August 25, 2021. After taking over the investigation, the central agency filed a supplementary charge sheet on September 30, 2021 before the ACJM court in Sealdah against 20 accused, including the 15 already charge-sheeted by the state police. In May 2022, Biswajit Sarkar sat in a dharna outside the CBI office at the CGO Complex in Salt Lake, demanding a 'speedy and effective' investigation into his brother's death. Days after that, the Central agency summoned Pal. Sarkar's family has alleged that TMC supporters killed him and that Pal had a role to play in the murder. Meanwhile, in the Nabanna Abhijan violence on August 9 case, the single bench of Justice Joy Sengupta granted anticipatory bail to former BJP MP Arjun Singh, BJP councillor Sajal Ghosh, BJP leader Shanku Deb Panda and Kali Khatik with the condition that they will cooperate with the investigation. The same bench had earlier granted anticipatory bail to BJP MLA and former cricketer Ashok Dinda in the case.

Chennai: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and actor C. Joseph Vijay on Thursday declared that the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election would be a straight contest between his party and the ruling DMK. Addressing a massive gathering at TVK's second State-level conference at Parapathi in Madurai district, Vijay said the BJP was his ideological enemy while the DMK was his political opponent. Thousands of TVK cadres and fans had assembled at the venue since Wednesday night, and Vijay arrived in his trademark style, running across a 500-metre ramp as supporters cheered and party colours filled the air. 'All Tamil people are my blood relatives. I came into politics with determination, not as a refuge. Serving the people is my duty, and I will stand with them all my life,' he said. Vijay ruled out any alliance with the BJP, describing it as a 'fascist force,' and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of forcing the NEET examination on Tamil Nadu. He also came down heavily on the DMK government, charging Chief Minister M.K. Stalin with misleading women, government employees, and other sections of society through unfulfilled promises. 'The BJP cannot succeed in this secular land with any alliance,' he declared. Concluding his speech, Vijay told his cadre that the political fight in Tamil Nadu was now reduced to two sides. 'The 2026 election will be between the DMK and the TVK. Let us together build a new Tamil Nadu.'
