Disney World adds an adults-only after-dark experience

Disney World adds an adults-only after-dark experience

Miami Herald05-05-2025

It's barely an exaggeration to say that the food in Disney theme parks is a big part of the experience, almost as much as the rides.
And anyone who has visited one of the parks more than once most definitely has a favorite "only in Disney" food.

Maybe you can't visit without grabbing one of those turkey legs that's as big as your 10-year-old child's arm. Or maybe it's the pineapple Dole Whip soft-serve that you dream about. How about a churro?
In Walt Disney's (DIS) Disney World, there are 200 places to eat, including 90 with table service. (There are only 139 in Disneyland, but still plenty to choose from.)
You can even find upscale dining options like steakhouses in the parks, not quite Michelin Star material, perhaps, but almost.
Earlier this year, Disney World announced it was bringing back a dining option that is really popular with families: kids eat free.
If you stay at one of the 25 Disney Resort hotels in Orlando and you purchase a dining plan for people in your group who are older than 10, you will also get a free dining plan for kids ages 3 to 9.

Since a day in Disney can cost between $500 and $1,200 per person by the time you account for the ticket, the hotel and food, any offer that helps bring the prices down is a welcome one.
Guests normally can't combine special offers, but this year Disney is allowing it. "The kids' free dining plan offering can be combined with other select special offers, meaning you may still be eligible to take advantage of other deals we later roll out for 2026," according to the Disney Parks Blog.
The Disney Company is always looking for ways to get people to come back to The Happiest Place on Earth. They revamp old rides, introduce new ones, add new live shows, and have spectacular seasonal events.

Disney World and Disneyland don't normally have adults-only attractions, but there are experiences that are more appropriate for adults, including the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival and Disney After Hours.
Earlier this year the company announced GEO-82, a new 21+, reservations-required dining lounge in Epcot.

Now the park is upping the ante with the new GEO-82 Fireworks Experience. A ticket to the show includes fireworks, fountains, music and light, and a menu that will include:
Champagne that's specially selected by sommeliers at Walt Disney World Resort (or event-exclusive cocktails);A tasting tower of savory light bites, available before Luminous The Symphony of Us begins;A selection of sweets during Luminous The Symphony of Us.
Disney hasn't yet specified what the "light bites" for the Fireworks Experience will include, but the GEO-82 menu includes foods with global influences - like Truffled Ahi Tuna and Jumbo Lump Crab Gâteau. The cocktail menu highlights a Brown Butter Old Fashioned - made with brown butter-infused bourbon - and a Clarified New York Sour, plus a selection of mocktails, wines, and beers.
Reservations for the GEO-82 Fireworks Experience will open on May 6 for dates starting June 4. The experience costs $179 (plus tax and gratuity).

Risk Of Dengue Fever Is Just Another Reason Cruises Suck

Watching a cruise ship come together is incredibly cool, but having to actually go out and cruise on one is another story entirely. Every cruise ship is a small tourist-trap city, packed to the brim with the most entitled and sunburned people you'll ever have the misfortune of meeting. And now, according to the Centers for Disease Control, the cruise experience is only getting better: A number of popular cruise destinations are facing outbreaks of dengue fever. Fun! Dengue is far from the first disease outbreak we've seen around cruise ships — the Queen Mary 2 saw a norovirus outbreak already this year, after 2024's record number of shipborne stomach bugs — but this one is bigger than any one ship. The outbreak is hitting multiple continents, according to The Street, including Mexico, Panama, and Caribbean islands like Saint Lucia — some of the most popular ports for cruises out of the United States to visit. Cruise ships are packed with people, allowing diseases to spread and fester from bow to stern, and you want to go sail on one? On the boats where they'll put your corpse in a drink cooler to stop it stinking up the joint? Read more: These Are The Dumbest Looking Cars Of All Time, According To You Dengue is a mosquito-borne illness, and mosquitos are famously capable of flight. Even if you stay on the ship at an affected port of call, its proximity to the shore could allow infected mosquitoes to make their way aboard and suckle at your sweet, sweet flesh — giving you headaches, fever, rashes, nausea, and vomiting in the process. Y'know where doesn't have dengue fever? Toronto! Go visit that on vacation. The food will almost certainly be better, and you can leave if you want. Not all major cruise locales are affected by this outbreak — Alaska, traditionally a popular destination, reportedly remains dengue-free — but there are enough ports besieged by infected mosquitoes that you should maybe reconsider your next cruise. Even if you're not bound for dengue territory, actually, you should probably reconsider. Why did you want to get stuck on a boat with a bunch of obnoxious people and their sticky children anyway? ‘Disgusted' Disney World fans fume that execs are ‘wiping out' park's original spirit as Rivers of America attraction closes down: ‘Canceling my trip'

They're sad about the happiest place on Earth. Disney World fans are fuming after the theme park announced the closure of three of its most iconic attractions: Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat. The beloved destinations are set to shutter on July 7 to make way for Piston Peak National Park— a new attraction based on the Disney and Pixar 'Cars' universe. 3 The riverboat Liberty Belle sailing on the Rivers of America passes Tom Sawyer Island at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. TNS 3 Disney World, which has been in operation since 1971, is pictured. AP 'Imagine an awe-inspiring wilderness filled with towering trees, snowcapped mountains, breathtaking waterfalls, roaring rivers and impressive geysers,' the Disney Parks Blog enthused in a post promoting Piston Peak. 'While fictional, Piston Peak is inspired by the Rocky Mountain area and the history and iconic sights of the American Frontier and its national parks.' However, many Disney World visitors are dismayed that the new park will be constructed ot the expense of the other three attractions — all of which have been open to the public for decades. 'Canceling my trip in October and sadly, will never visit that park again,' one mourned. 'I am heartbroken at the loss of Tom Sawyer Island,' a Disney detractor declared on X. 'This is the WORST decision ever.' 'Walt's Rivers of America transports you to something ideal in American values of exploration, adventure, history, and scenery. A true park within a park,' an additional fan fawned. 'This is a HUGE mistake from Disney. Cartoon Cars will never last the test of time.' 3 However, other Disney lovers were far more upbeat about the upcoming changes, saying plans for Piston Peak appeared promising. A drawing of the future attraction is pictured. Wandering In Disney: A Disney Theme Parks Blog 'More wiping out of the Walt Disney era,' another spluttered. 'I'm disgusted with current leadership of Disney Corp. I'm done with them. Still love classic Disney, but I've lost all interest in anything about current 'Disney' (parks , movies, streaming). They are not part of my world anymore.' However, other Disney lovers were far more upbeat about the upcoming changes, saying plans for Piston Peak appeared promising. 'I showed this to my 10-year-old and he SQUEALED with joy and shouted 'PISTON PEAK?!' I'm thrilled that new generations are getting spaces in the parks that speak to them. Almost forgot this is the whole point,' one Disney defender posted on X in light of the news. 'Thanks for your insight,' one reader responded. 'I'm so tired of the negativity around this upgrade of the space. 'I like that they're incorporating the river & adding new water features to keep the same vibe,' another wrote on Facebook DW News Today shared the news.

Meghan Markle Shares Pics of Archie and Lilibet Experiencing 'Pure Joy' at Disneyland

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle appeared to enjoy Disneyland almost as much as their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in a Reel posted to Instagram by the Duchess of Sussex on Friday. 'Thank you @disneyland for giving our family two days of pure joy!' Meghan wrote in the caption of the adorable montage of the family's adventures. The whole group was at the amusement park for Lilibet's fourth birthday. Playing to Peggy Lee's song 'It's A Good Day,' the first clip showed a nervous Lilibet holding her mom's hand as she approached her hero, Elsa from Frozen. Lili was also gifted a Little Mermaid-themed birthday cake reading 'Happy Birthday Lili,' making it a day of Disney princesses for the royal one. The group could then be seen on various rides, including Tiana's Bayou Adventure, Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters, Space Mountain, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, and the King Arthur Carousel. Meghan shared a clip of just herself and Harry on the more demanding Rise of the Resistance, laughing and screaming together as they came down on the roller coaster. In a group shot, Meghan covered her kids' faces, but showed off her Minnie Mouse ears. Harry was kneeling by the two children and has his arm around Archie. Lili is barefoot and wearing a white dress covered in a colorful graphic bow pattern. Before the Disney party, Meghan celebrated Lili's fourth birthday with never-before-seen footage from the delivery room taken just ahead of her daughter's birth. In the clips, she and Harry are dancing together to help induce labor, because both Lili and Archie arrived past their due dates. 'Four years ago today, this also happened,' she wrote in the caption. 'Both of our children were a week past their due dates. So when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn't work—there was only one thing left to do! 😂.'
