Strictly star forced 'off-grid' with boyfriend after fire broke out in holiday home
The Strictly starhas explained why she was forced "off-grid" during a recent holiday to the South of France with her boyfriend.
EastEnders actress Maisie Smith recounted a narrow miss when the property she and Max George were due to stay at in the South of France was engulfed by flames.
During her chat on Sunday Brunch (August 10), the Strictly Come Dancing star relayed the alarming incident. Luckily, the couple had not yet reached their holiday abode when the blaze erupted, prompting a last-minute change in their accommodation plans. Maisie revealed that she and Max ended up lodging at an alternative location nearby their initial vacation spot, though it wasn't quite the perfect arrangement for her.
The topic arose after hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer questioned why their Channel 4 team had struggled to reach Maisie before her appearance on the show. They had been informed that the soap star had "gone off grid" and sought clarity on what this entailed.
Maisie Smith talks near miss as holiday fire 'destroys everything'
In his quest for answers, Tim was taken aback by Maisie's candid response early in the programme, reports the Mirror.
Following Tim's inquiry, Maisie clarified there was an additional reason for her being unreachable, stating: "It was the South of France, it wasn't really off-grid, it's quite a common holiday destination."
She continued, shedding light on the severity of the situation: "But there was a fire and everything was destroyed. The house we were supposed to be staying in, it was destroyed.
Simon and Tim wanted to get to the bottom of why Maisie had been off-grid
"So where did you stay," Tim enquired, clearly taken aback, to which Maisie disclosed: "In an airbnb, down the road from where we were supposed to be staying.
"So all of your technical equipment was destroyed?" Tim probed further as Maisie informed him: "No, we were on a fishing lake."
"Do you fish?" Tim continued, with her response being: "No but my boyfriend did?" Tim sensed that the EastEnders actress might not have had the most enjoyable experience, as she seemed less than thrilled about her rural French retreat.

The presenter speculated whether Maisie had relished her time away, and the ex-Strictly contestant shared: "If you like to fish it was great... but if you didn't..."
Her explanation was interrupted by laughter in the studio, prompting Tim to steer the conversation elsewhere.
Maisie and Max became an item after meeting on the 2020 edition of Strictly Come Dancing, with their romance blossoming two years on in 2022.

April dragged into a shocking crime in Emmerdale as she faces grave danger
Dylan Pender's (Fred Kettle) Emmerdale return has seen him bring trouble with him trouble and lies to April Windor's (Amelia Flanagan) door and the upshot is she's put in grave danger. Dylan isn't inherently bad, he's just down on his luck, but has been dragged into working with drug dealer Ray Walters (Joe Absolom), and though while he's trying to extricate himself from his associations with the bad man, Ray has other ideas. Dylan thinks he's getting out, Ray is secretly pulling him back in. And he's got his eye on April too. As April's 16th approaches, it's a big deal but Marlon (Mark Charnock) feels displaced. Dylan is now the flavour of the month for April; she's outgrown her dad. But that's largely because her birthday wish centres around one thing – sleeping with Dylan. She gets her wish, during which Dylan misses a call from Ray. Mandy (Lisa Riley) catches them post-coital and informs on them to Marlon, going directly against the no snitching code of the Dingles – and Marlon is gutted. Rhona (Zoe Henry) helps him see that April needs to be able to make her own choices. It's cringes all round though when April learns that her dad knows she had sex. That will all turn out to be small fry problems when Ray demands that Dylan does another job for him. April finds out about it and realises Dylan has continued to lie. She also realises he is caught up in something very dark. More Trending She gives him permission to go ahead but is hit with a shocker when Dylan reveals it's her Ray wants to complete the job, not him. EastEnders confirms return story for popular character but sadness soon follows
EastEnders' Lily Slater (Lillia Turner) is poised to return to Walford this week after an extended break – but she's set to arrive home amid further unhappiness for her mum Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner). Lily was last seen leaving Albert Square to spend time with her biological father Ryan Malloy (Neil McDermott) back in May. Her exit had followed a particularly fraught period in her relationship with Stacey, who'd struggled to step up as a parent amid her grief for her beloved Martin Fowler (James Bye) following his death in the Queen Vic explosion earlier this year. While Stacey has since managed to get her life back on track, fresh drama kicks off just as she is preparing to welcome Lily home. Forthcoming scenes see Stacey's excitement at her daughter's homecoming short-lived when Jean and Freddie Slater (Gillian Wright and Bobby Brazier) reveal that someone leaked her SecretCam pictures and videos online. Fans of the BBC soap will remember that Stacey started making adult content on a subscription platform when she was struggling to make ends meet back in 2023, which also led to her gaining a stalker in the form of creepy teacher Theo Hawthorne (William Ellis). Horrified that the images have now been leaked, Stacey quickly concludes that Joel Marshall (Max Murray) is responsible following his recent behaviour. Last week saw the teenage incel start plotting revenge against Stacey for slapping him after he unleashed a vile rant about her past and Lily's teenage pregnancy. Pete Wicks 'in secret romance' as he admits he's 'in love' with mystery woman
Pete Wicks has been forced to admit he is in a secret relationship (Image: Staying Relevant Podcast/Youtube) Pete Wicks has been rumbled for being in a passionate romance - and was forced to admit he is already in love. The 36-year-old reality star is well known for his womanising ways - as fans will be well aware. His love life took a central focus while he was a participant in ITV's The Only Way Is Essex as viewers saw him meet, fall in love with, date, then break up with a string of women when he was part of the cast from 2015 until 2022. Even away from Towie, his romantic exploits have drawn attention both on and off camera. Pete has taken part in E4's chaotic reality dating show Celebs Go Dating three times - featuring on the show in 2019, 2020 and 2022. It comes after reports of all the celebrities rumoured to be joining BBC Strictly Come Dancing 2025. Get Me Out Of Here! The romance came to an abrupt end earlier this year, however - with Maura making explosive headlines in March when she was caught locking lips with married McFly star Danny Jones. In the intervening months, Pete has managed to keep his love life under the radar - but that has all changed. The star runs a podcast called Staying Relevant with Made In Chelsea star Sam Thompson. And in a new episode, the notorious Lothario was forced to admit he is secretly dating a new woman. The truth was unearthed as Pete took part in a lie detector test alongside his co-host. While fielding questions, Sam grew mischievous and asked Pete: "Are you in love with somebody right now?" When Pete answered "No," he was rumbled as the polygraph results showed he was not telling the truth. The outcome delighted Sam, who exclaimed: "Ahhh I knew it! And that's all we're going to say." A stunned Pete then replied: "How could you do that to me?" But Sam then joked: "I don't know, it just came to my head, it's a f****** lie." He then declared: "Pete's in love with somebody. Find her! Find her! Pete's in love secretly and I think I know who it is." Pete previously dated Love Island's Maura Higgins (Image: Getty Images) However, it seems Sam forced Pete's hand - as the Towie legend grumbled: "You know exactly who it is, I literally told you the f****** story, she's not replied." He then fumed: "Why would you put that one in there? That was not on the f****** list!" And urging the line of questioning to move on, Pete added: "Are we f****** done with me now?" While the boys did not name any named, Pete has been most recently linked to Love Island star Samantha Kenny - as they were spotted embracing outside a nightclub in Mayfair at the end of March. His romance with Maura came to an explosive end in February amid allegations he had not been faithful. However, the following month, Maura sparked home-wrecker accusations after she was spied kissing pop singer Danny - who has been married to model Georgia Horsley since 2014.
