YouTube Debuts Open Call Tool to Connect Ad Campaigns With Multiple Creators at Once

Yahoo6 hours ago

YouTube is taking another step to more easily connect creators with advertisers. During Cannes Lions 2025, the company unveiled open call, a new feature powered by YouTube BrandConnect that allows brands to discover and partner with creators at scale.
Open call will live within YouTube's creator partnerships hub. Inside the hub, advertisers will be able to publish a creative brief listing the details for their campaign. Advertisers will then open the campaign, allowing multiple creators within the YouTube Partner Program to contact them at once. Creators will respond with video content designed for that particular campaign. In turn, advertisers will be able to review and approve video submissions with their chosen creator videos being promoted as partnership ads.
'Open call gives creators of all sizes the opportunity to pursue new relationships with brands,' Melissa Hsieh Nikolic, the director of product management for YouTube Ads, said in a blog post announcing the tool.
Open call is currently only available for select advertisers. More details about the program will be announced in the coming months.
'The best brand partnerships result in authentic content that truly resonates with my audience,' Haley Kalil, a YouTube creator with 7.67 million subscribers, said of the new feature. 'Creators know their online communities really well, so giving us as much creative freedom as possible is key to any successful brand partnership.'
Open call is not the first advertising tool YouTube has unveiled this year. Tied to the 2025 Newfronts and Upfronts, the brand highlighted its Insights Finder tool, which uses artificial intelligence to more seamlessly connect brands to creators.

A look at Jomboy Media's rise from podcast to MLB partner

Major League Baseball has struck a partnership deal with Jomboy Media, the sports content company that rose to prominence through viral lip-reading videos and now boasts 2 million YouTube subscribers. The partnership comes as MLB seeks to reach younger audiences through authentic digital content creators. Jomboy Media recorded 93 million social media engagements last year and has grown since its humble beginnings as a hobby podcast in 2017. Co-founder Jake Storiale said the company never envisioned reaching this scale when he and Jimmy O'Brien started their weekly Yankees podcast. "The original dream was maybe like the kooky spring training guys or something like that," Storiale said during an appearance on "CBS Mornings Plus" Monday. "And now it's turned into a 60-person business." The deal represents years of parallel work between the organizations, according to Courtney Hirsch, the CEO of Jomboy Media and O'Brien's sister, who helped broker the partnership. "We both have the same mission to grow the game and to serve baseball fans," Hirsch said. "It took years in the making." What finally pushed the partnership over the finish line after years of discussions was the growing influence of digital content creators in sports, Hirsch said. "I think the power of content creators is really undeniable, and the impact that they're having on sports," she said. "Major League Baseball recognizes that it's important to have authentic voices speaking to fans, and then also creating content on digital platforms like we do to reach people where they're at and create new fans because that's really our superpower." Jomboy Media has expanded beyond baseball commentary to include multiple podcasts, TV shows and warehouse games featuring backyard-style sports competitions. The company's breakdown videos, which often include lip-reading analysis of on-field conversations and confrontations, have become particularly popular for bringing viewers closer to the action. "Sports is the best reality television still," Storiale said. "The breakdown videos that Jimmy does, I mean it brings you on the field and that's kind of what fans want." The company name originated from an iPhone autocorrect error that changed "Jimmy" to "Jomboy," which O'Brien adopted as his social media handle on his mother's advice to use a nickname online, Hirsch said. Financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed.

In Pixar's Toy Story 5, the Big New Villain Is a Tablet

Pixar is giving its old-school toys a decidedly modern antagonist in its fifth installment of the beloved Toy Story movies: a tablet. During the studio's Friday showcase at Annecy's International Animation Film Festival in France, chief creative officer Pete Docter revealed that Toy Story 5's villain is Lily Pad, a "sneaky" and "prickly" tablet that convinces 8-year-old Bonnie Anderson that friends and games on a device beat dusty ol' toys in the closet. The first concept art shows the frog-faced tablet looming over Buzz, Jessie and Bullseye like a touchscreen tyrant of the toy box. As you can probably foresee, this is a battle between analog toys and always-on tech. (You can stream Toy Story movies one through four on Disney Plus.) The Lily Pad reveal topped a jam-packed Walt Disney Animation and Pixar showcase, where the company rolled out updated release dates, never-before-seen footage and a couple of all-new original films. Toy Story 5: tech is the enemy The premise of Toy Story 5 is that Anderson gets a Lily Pad for school chat and online games. But the tablet decides that Anderson's toys, including Woody, Buzz and Jessie, are holding her back. Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack are all returning, while Ernie Hudson steps in as Combat Carl, honoring the late Carl Weathers. Docter shared the opening scene of Toy Story 5, which shows a crate full of stranded Buzz Lightyears trying to escape a desert island. Toy Story 5 is set for release on June 19, 2026, more than 30 years after the first movie came out. It's set a couple of years after the events of Toy Story 4, but no word yet on how Woody, who departed with Bo Peep at the end of that movie, will return to Bonnie's house -- or whether Bo Peep will be in the fifth movie. Toy Story 5 starts off with Buzz Lightyear action figures, stuck in toy mode, searching for Star Command (shown here in concept art). Pixar Pixar's two new original films: Hoppers and Gatto Daniel Chong's Hoppers, scheduled for March 6, 2026, turns an eco-heist into a critter-powered caper: 14-year-old Mabel uploads her mind into a robotic beaver to save her local pond from a highway project. Gatto, slated for summer 2027, centers on Nero, a black cat in Venice who's burned through most of his nine lives doing jobs for a feline mob boss. Now, questioning whether he's wasted those lives, Nero stumbles into an unexpected friendship that could finally give him purpose. The film will be shot in a "living storybook" style, which is new to Pixar. New footage from Zootopia 2 and Elio Jared Bush, Walt Disney Animation Studios' chief creative officer and director-writer of Zootopia 2, showed some new footage and images from the anticipated sequel, which should come out in November. The audience also got to watch a 27-minute sizzle reel from Elio, the cosmic coming-of-age adventure, which opens June 20.
