Mary Berry's exciting new project to celebrate 90th birthday milestone
The baking queen is working on something special with the BBC
Mary Berry is showing no signs of slowing down at 90 as the Queen of puds lands another BBC show. After celebrating the milestone birthday in March, Mary is filming a special series in celebration of her life and favourite recipes.
It's set to feature some special guests too. Cameras have started rolling on Mary Berry 90, which will be shown on the Beeb later this year. A source said: 'Mary is a national treasure so what better way to celebrate her than a new series. It'll be a tribute to the Mary's joy of cooking and sharing good food.'
It will feature some of the icon's favourite memories plus her best-known fuss-free recipes for every occasion. It's being made by the production company and much-loved team at Sidney Street who are behind her series Foolproof Dinners. It ties in with her cookbook of the same name. It will be a six-episode series, coming to screens in Autumn 2025.
Much-loved Mary has enjoyed a glittering career, gracing our TVs for five decades and selling more than 12 million cook books.
The former Great British Bake Off host studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris before becoming food editor at Ideal Home magazine. She's published more than 75 cookery books, including her best-selling Baking Bible in 2009. Her first book was The Hamlyn All Colour Cookbook in 1970.
Hosting several television series for the BBC, most famously The Great British Bake Off with Paul Hollywood until 2016, her most recent series, Mary's Foolproof Dinners, saw her cooking and conversing with celebs.
She was made a dame for services to culinary arts in 2021. She picked up her honour at a ceremony with King Charles - then a Prince - at Windsor Castle.
In a message for her 90th birthday, Prince William - his son - left Mary in tears with his well wishes. He said: "I want to wish you a very happy 90th birthday. You are a true national treasure and we've loved working with you over the years. Have a fantastic day today. I dread to think who's cooking your cake and the criticism they might get but good luck and I hope it goes really well."
Dame Mary has also marked her birthday by joining Instagram for the first time.
Still approaching life with vigour, she sprinkles joy on everything she does. And the secret to her long and healthy life? Mary says her genes are good, with her mother, Marjorie, living to be 105.
'She didn't go to gyms and I couldn't agree with her more,' laughed Mary.
Mary, who has been married to Paul Hunnings for 67 years, this week picked up the Special Award at Fortnum's Food and Drinks Awards.

BBC Death Valley viewers 'switch off' in droves with one major complaint
BBC Death Valley was the BBC's most viewed launch show for a scripted comedy in five years. Death Valley viewers were not happy with the third episode of the BBC show as many took to social media to claim they were going to 'switch off'. The police drama, set in Wales, stars an unlikely duo - Timothy Spall as retired actor John Chapel and Gwyneth Keyworth as DS Janie Mallowan - as the force are tasked with looking into a series of deaths, including one of a best man at a wedding. The series explores the tension between John's past fame following his starring role as a fictional TV detective and Janie's ambition, as they navigate the challenges of their partnership while investigating the seemingly unrelated cases. Viewers found a lot of talking points about the latest instalment, but not all of them good as they took to X, formerly Twitter, in their droves to have their say. One fan, as writes the Express, had a simple statement to make, saying: 'What on earth is this s***? #DeathValley No wonder everyone is talking about it... It's utter drivel and woke toboot. Refund the BBC if this is the best they can s**t out."(sic) Another joined in, adding: "Heard it was bad, but jeezo it's horrendously bad. The lead lady is soooo irritating and the script is chronically unfunny. A new low for BBC Sunday night viewing, absolutely horrendous." One said: "Frustration peaked for some, prompting them to turn off their TVs, as one viewer confessed: "Caught up with #DeathValley on BBC1. I love stuff staring Timothy Spall but just had to turn off after a few minutes due to the awful co-star detective played by Gwyneth Keyworth shouting all the time. She must be one of the most annoying TV characters ever." As the pile on continued, one said: ""I'm on the third episode of "Death Valley" - I really gave it a try, but it really doesn't get on me. I can't stand the main characters, they are cringe... in general I really like those shows, but this I'll skip and that Ludwig will return soon." And one added: "#DeathValley on BBC1 is one of the worst programmes I've ever sat through!". However, not all viewers were so passionate with their criticism. One said: ""I know a lot of people seem to enjoy slagging off #DeathValley, and I admit that when I saw the initial trailer, I thought it looked poor. "However, having binged the series the other day, I can quash my original reticence & say that I loved it. Daft, funny, cosy & Welsh." While another backed the show, adding: "Enjoying #DeathValley too. It's Sunday night viewing and I remember 'By the Sword Divided' and 'The Pallisers' so this is quite fun." Despite some fans appearing disgruntled, the show has proved a hit for the BBC's Sunday night schedule and the first episode got 2.9million viewers on May 25, making it the most viewed launch for a new BBC scripted comedy in the past five years. Paul Hollywood opens up on 'bad' Bake Off moment he wants to 'delete' from his mind
Paul Hollywood opens up on 'bad' Bake Off moment he wants to 'delete' from his mind Paul Hollywood has been a popular judge on The Great British Bake Off since 2010, witnessing a number of quality bakes coming through the famous tent, as well as some more unfortunate creations Paul Hollywood has revealed a Great British Bake Off moment he wants to 'delete' from his memory Paul Hollywood opened up about a 'bad' moment on the Great British Bake Off that he likes to 'delete' from his memory. The 59-year-old has become an international sensation as a judge on the popular TV show since 2010. Over the years Paul has seen numerous bakers and celebrities enter the famous tent. And while plenty of contestants on the show have presented bakes worthy of the Hollywood handshake, there have been plenty of mishaps in the tent. One contestant who won't be remembered for their top culinary creations is comedian Alan Carr. The 48-year-old appeared on the celebrity special in 2018 alongside Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher, fellow comic Aisling Bea, and Paralympian Kadeena Cox. Judges Paul and Prue Leith were left unimpressed when Alan attempted to recreate Zippy, George and Bungle from Rainbow TV. Prue described the cake as 'wonderfully imaginative' but said the 'execution is not exactly professional'. Paul however didn't hold back, commenting: 'You shouldn't really be able to snap a sponge. I've never seen that before.' Alan Carr on Bake Off in 2018 (Image: Channel 4 ) Article continues below Paul recently appeared on Alan's Life's a Beach podcast discussing his new book, Joyful Baking All Year Round. Alan told listeners he spotted a rainbow cake in the book. He said: 'I was enjoying this until I saw rainbow cake. That's triggering me because I was on Bake Off, do you remember? The celebrity one.' Paul jokingly replied: 'I try to delete that from my mind to be honest.' Alan, laughing, fired back: 'You were so horrible.' He added: 'What people don't know is that they leave the cakes at the back so all of the cast and crew can tuck in, mine was intact.' Paul revealed the GBBO crew tend to tuck in to the savoury bakes left behind more than the sweet treats made by bakers. Alan replied: 'That makes me feel a little bit better. The thing is, when I did it….' Paul responded: 'It was bad' Paul Hollywood joined Bake Off in 2010 Alan joked that he would throw Paul's book 'out of the window'. He added: 'Shut-up will you, please. It works both ways, I got food poisoning.' Paul clapped back that Alan hadn't 'followed the recipes' in his book. Paul took aim at Alan's cooking skills before entering the kitchen, adding: 'You hadn't seen an oven before in your life.' Article continues below Alan joked the bin 'spat out' his cake after it was thrown away. His rainbow cake was one of a series of errors on the show, with Alan's glasses steaming up as he stared into the oven and he struggled to work out the mixer. Former Bond girl Teri won the episode Alan was featured in. Prue said: 'She had the whole package, she was Star Baker by quite a margin.'
