Star big man Kristaps Porzingis embraces what it means to play for the Boston Celtics, and fans of the team have connected with him quickly because of it. Some players spend years suiting up for the Celtics, and never connect with the Boston faithful in the same sort of way the Latvian center has already managed to in just his second season with the team (and with a fair amount of that time sidelined with injury, while we are at it).
Cohost of the CLNS Media "Celtics Lab" podcast, Cameron Tabatabaie, recently had the opportunity to sit down with KP to talk about that special connection he has with the crowd, the push for Banner 19, and a lot more. Sam Hauser has been with the Boston Celtics since he was signed as an undrafted rookie in 2021. He's steadily developed into one of the best sharpshooters in the NBA and is arguably a top-five shooting threat off the catch in the league. Hauser has also proven himself to be a viable defender, even when isolated in space, further driving up his value to the Celtics, both as a starter and a member of the second unit. Given Joe Mazzulla's affinity for a perimeter-based offense, Hauser is undoubtedly one of the more important role players in the rotation. The floor spacing his presence provides, even on poor shooting nights, is hard to replicate. Teams respect the threat he poses, both when stationary or when coming off screens. However, that didn't stop Hauser's name from being floated in trade rumors earlier this summer. It's for that reason that Sam LaFrance and Jack Simone have discussed Hauser's overall importance to the Celtics roster for the upcoming season and beyond. After all, as a re-tooling roster, everybody outside of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Derrick White and potentially Payton Pritchard will be available at the right price. What can fans expect when the Boston Celtics sale is complete?
On Tuesday, August 12, Bill Chisholm took another step toward completing the $6.1 billion purchase of the Boston Celtics, and the NBA's board of governors approved the sale. The news came hot on the heels of Wyc Grousbeck stepping down as governor and taking up a role as CEO and "alternate governor" within the franchise. Chisholm is taking over the Celtics during a time of transition. The franchise entered a retooling phase this summer, primarily due to Jayson Tatum's Achilles injury, but also due to the potential $500 million payroll due to being in the second luxury tax apron. As such, Chisholm will get a crash course in what being an NBA governor entails. During a recent episode of "Felger and Mazz" for 98.5 The Sports Hub, the duo discussed Chisholm's purchase of the Celtics and what it could mean for the franchise. Joe Mazzulla is entering his fourth season with the Boston Celtics. He recently signed a multi-year deal to remain in the franchise's hot seat. However, there are still questions being asked regarding his long-term suitability for the position. Those questions are primarily due to the Celtics' current position of being a retooling roster, as Mazzulla has only led contending teams up to this point in his career. As such, Mazzulla will now need to prove himself all over again. We already know he can guide a team on a championship run.
