Chinese foldables have nothing on Galaxy Z Fold 7 where it matters
We already knew that the recently-revealed Galaxy Z Fold 7 is Samsung's thinnest and lightest book-style foldable phone to date. The vivo X Fold 5 was believed to have the crown for the slimmest and most lightweight foldable on the market. However, it has now emerged that the Fold 7 outclasses the X Fold 5 in both departments. The Fold 7 will go on sale on July 25, meaning only a select few have their hands on it right now, and most have likely agreed to embargoes.
Leakers are not ones to abide by these rules, though, which is why Ice Universe, who also happens to be a fierce critic of Samsung, has posted the results of tests they conducted.
The Fold 7 is 8.9mm thick when folded and weighs 215 grams, according to the official specs. Honor claims its Magic V5 is 8.8mm thin and 217 grams on the weight scale. The OPPO Find N5 is said to be 8.93 mm thick and 229 grams. The vivo X Fold5 is 9.2mm thick and comes in at 217 grams, according to the company's website. If you pit the official specs against each other, it seems like the Fold 7 and OPPO Find N5 are evenly matched when it comes to thickness. The Fold 7 also looks the lightest foldable phone , but not by a wide margin.
There is no accurate measuring tool, but we can still draw a rigorous conclusion: Galaxy Z Fold7 is the thinnest folding mobile phone in the world.

Some people might scoff at his methods, which involve putting the phones side by side and observing which way a ball slides to determine the thickness. He did use a caliper to confirm his findings, though.
The tipster also weighed the phones, and surprisingly, there are variations between what Ice found and the official specs. According to his tests, the Fold 7 weighs 218 grams, beating out Honor Magic V5 (224 grams), vivo X Fold5 (236 grams), and OPPO Find N5 (236 grams).

We will, of course, do our own tests, but going by Ice's results, it looks like Samsung was being a little humble when it said the Fold 7 was its thinnest and lightest Galaxy Fold to date, even though it's actually the thinnest and lightest of them all. Samsung went to great lengths to achieve this feat, sacrificing S Pen support in the process. On top of that, the tipster claims that in reality, the Galaxy S26 Ultra may be able to charge all the way up to 90% within just 30 minutes. A very welcome improvement. In our tests, the Galaxy S25 Ultra charged up to 68% in 30 minutes, while phones like the Xiaomi 14T Pro can reach a full charge within 25 minutes or so. You can judge for yourself the difference between 70-ish percent and 80 or even 90% for just half an hour of charging. If true, that would be a great improvement for Ultra fans. At the moment, the 0-100% charging times of the Galaxy S26 Ultra have not leaked. But it's quite possible that these charging times may be around 45 minutes. I personally think that in this day and age, when we have phones that can be fully charged from the bottom up in around 20 minutes, any improvement in this department is totally welcome. And I surely hope these rumors are true.

Multiple leaks have spilled pretty much everything already. Just like before, Samsung is going with two versions: a 4G model and a 5G model. And now, we are getting another early peek at both. A 5,000 mAh battery with 25W fast charging, IP54-rated dust and water resistance, and support for expandable storage via microSD card. Software-wise, the both A17 versions should ship with One UI 7 based on Android 15, and Samsung is promising an impressive 6 years of OS updates and security patches – which is kind of a big deal in the budget space. So yeah, if you are hunting for a super affordable Android phone that won't feel outdated in a year, the Galaxy A17 might be worth the short wait.
