Rahul Gandhi gets drenched by rain as Kharge hoists flag on Independence Day

Congress President Shri @kharge hoisted the flag at Indira Bhawan on the occasion of Independence Day. On this occasion, Leader of Opposition Shri @RahulGandhi, along with senior leaders and workers of the Congress Party, were present. Today, we remember all those freedom fighters whose sacrifices made this independence possible. It is our collective duty to protect it," Congress wrote in one of the X posts of the ceremony.
The party shared visuals of the ceremony on its Instagram handle as well.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched an attack on Rahul Gandhi for skipping the Independence Day celebrations at the iconic Red Fort, from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a 103-minute long address.
The BJP called Rahul Gandhi a 'lover of Pakistan'.

Rahul Gandhi, the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP), in his Independence Day greeting to the nation, highlighted that independence is a resolve to build a nation rooted in truth, equality, and brotherhood.
"Heartfelt Independence Day greetings to all countrymen. This freedom, achieved through the sacrifices of great freedom fighters, is a resolve to build an India where justice rests on the foundation of truth and equality, and every heart is filled with respect and brotherhood. It is the duty of all of us to protect the pride and honor of this precious heritage. Jai Hind, Jai Bharat!" he said on X.

Rift between BJP and RSS? Ram Madhav responds to speculation

Madhav's statement comes after the Congress hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for praising the RSS in his Independence Day 2025 speech, calling it an 'insult to the Constitution". Madhav, however, lauded Modi's address, saying it inspired swayamsevaks and recognised 100 years of the RSS service. "Some people, due to political reasons, have always opposed the RSS, for example, some Congress leaders. They opposed for political reasons, but ultimately everyone knew inside them that the RSS works for the Hindu religion and the country, while being away from politics. The organisation is doing the work of making good people, man-making, that everyone knows. In our lower levels of organisation, everyone from diverse backgrounds gets a chance to work," he said. "When I say that from all political backgrounds get a chance, that means the Congress is also included in it, but some people feel that if they oppose the RSS then they will benefit politically," he added. Earlier, RSS leader Arun Kumar had also said the BJP and Sangh work together 'with mutual trust' and that both organisations continue their independent processes.

Uddhav Sena, MNS will contest Mumbai municipal polls together, says Sanjay Raut
Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Sanjay Raut on Friday said that his party and Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena will contest the upcoming municipal elections in the state, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation polls, in alliance, reported The Indian Express. In addition to Mumbai, talks were underway to contest the municipal polls together in Thane, Nashik, Kalyan Dombivali and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, said Raut, adding that 'no one can break the unity of the Thackerays'. The civic body elections in Mumbai are expected to take place later this year, while the Assembly elections are scheduled in 2029. 'The Thackeray brothers will contest the civic polls together and they will win,' the Uddhav Sena leader was quoted as saying by The Indian Express. Our discussions with MNS are still ongoing, but the goal is clear – to ensure victory in every civic body where we contest together.' The Uddhav Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena had earlier announced that they would contest the BEST Employees Co-operative Credit Society elections in Mumbai together. In the August 18 polls, the Uddhav Sena-affiliated BEST Kamgar Sena and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena-affiliated BEST Kamgar Sena will jointly fight against the BJP-backed panel led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's aides Prasad Lad and Pravin Darekar, reported The Indian Express. In 2005, Raj Thackeray quit the undivided Shiv Sena and formed the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena a year later. The Shiv Sena and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena were political rivals for the past two decades. However, on July 5, Uddhav Thackeray held a rally with his cousin Raj Thackeray, during which he said that they had ' come together to stay together'. 'We have united to protect Marathi,' Uddhav Thackeray had told supporters of his Shiv Sena faction and those of Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena at a joint rally in Mumbai. 'I want to tell you all that us coming together is just a trailer. This is just the beginning.' I - Day celebrations: Dinesh Gundu Rao calls on faith leaders to champion peace
Mangaluru: On the 79th Independence Day, District In-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao hoisted the national flag at Nehru Maidan and delivered a keynote speech emphasising the critical role of religious harmony in fostering development. He urged leaders of temples, mosques, and churches to educate their congregations about the importance of peace and social cohesion. He also appealed to artists from the realms of theatre, drama, and Yakshagana to propagate messages of unity through their art. He reiterated that collective effort must drive inclusive growth and said that paying homage to the martyrs who fought for India's freedom is every citizen's solemn duty. Assuring that the police would have full authority to maintain peace and prevent external disruptions, the minister mentioned that peace and harmony dialogues with community leaders have commenced, and ensuing action is underway based on mutual consensus. The Independence Day parade featured disciplined processions by police, reserve forces, KSRP, NCC cadets, Scouts and Guides, and members of the Bharat Seva Dal.
