Inside Disneyland when it first opened 70 years ago - and tickets only cost £9

Cartoon alchemist Walt Disney first introduced the world to theme parks when he opened the doors to Disneyland on a former orange grove that spanned 160 acres in Anaheim, California. The date was July 17, 1955, and a ticket to enter cost just a dollar (50 cents for children), the equivalent of around $12 (£8.92) today - although the park operated a pay as you ride system, with prices costing 23 cents for adults and 10 cents for kids. Disney fans today can take their pick from six resorts - two in the US, one in Europe and three in Asia, with a brand new park set to open in Abu Dhabi in the 'early 2030s' - but what did the very first incarnation of Walt Disney's vision look like? The opening day wasn't a success by all accounts, and became known as 'Black Sunday' by Disney employees because of the number of disasters that unfolded. It was so hot under the Californian sun that the asphalt melted under visitors' feet, the drinking fountains didn't work and several rides malfunctioned. Disneyland estimated around 20,000 people would attend on its first day and tickets were sent out on an invitation-only basis. However, bootleg tickets meant around 35,000 attended and many more crowded the park's entrance too. Eventually though, Walt and his first team of magic makers - now known as the Disney Imagineers - honed their theme park formula for fun. Two decades later, the brand's flagship attraction, Walt Disney World, now the world's most visited theme park, opened its doors in Orlando in the rest, as they say, is history. Here's what visitors arriving at the park on that very first day in the mid Fifties enjoyed... Anna Friel: I left my wardrobe behind when I split with my first boyfriend

A leather bomber jacket with a sheepskin collar from River Island when I was doing Brookside. It was £60 and I was so proud that I was earning money as a 16-year-old and could walk into a shop and say, 'I'll have that.' It was the time of the waif — which, 30 years later, seems to have come back — very CK One minimalist, spaghetti straps, Diesel boyfriend jeans and a white vest. Only about the things I lost. I had the best 1990s capsule wardrobe and when I split up with my first boyfriend, Darren Day, I was so distraught, I grabbed the essentials and left my whole wardrobe there, including an incredible Afghan coat from the Kings Road. I remember years later calling to ask for my clothes back and he'd ditched them all. One billion per cent trainers. My favourites are a chunky pair of red Adidas Campus 00s that I have in navy too. I love shoes and I'm a huge Terry de Havilland fan because they were the only heels I could walk in, but I prefer looking at them rather than wearing them now. • The new all-day heel (as comfy as trainers, trust me) I was presenting at the 2002 Baftas and I wore a dress from the 1950s that I'd found in a vintage store in Canada. It was the most incredible red lace with a boat neck. It was a size 12 and I was an 8 at the time, so I had it tailored. Whenever you're asked which designer you're wearing, I love saying it's vintage. My daughter, Gracie, was in my tummy and I was about to drop. David [Thewlis, the actor, and Gracie's father] and I went to a film premiere and I wore a custom emerald Moschino top, designed for my bump, with a gypsy skirt. It was a special moment and whenever Gracie looks at pictures, she's like, 'I was in your tummy.' • Read fashion advice and style inspiration from our experts My great passion is vintage — the materials are superior and I love pieces with a story — so I hunt down vintage shops whenever I travel. I've been shooting in Bristol recently and found a red 1980s jumpsuit. Palma, Mallorca, is a great place to shop for unique embroidery and leather shoes and bags. I carry pots of RMS concealer and highlighter — it's the finest and dewiest. Less is more as you get older because powder shows up lines. I use Chanel's blush pot in No 1 for rosy lips and cheeks. Gracie also introduced me to a brand called Moods that has fragrances called things like Frisky and Euphoric. It's a roll-on in incredible packaging. My favourite is Frisky, it's meant to attract the opposite sex! • Read more beauty product reviews and advice from our experts I have about 40 pairs of jeans. Citizens of Humanity and Acne Studios work best for me and they keep their shape. Rag & Bone is my favourite for low-slung jeans. If you want something unique, find a great tailor. Vintage pieces come up small. I look at my collection and think, how did I fit into that? I saved loads for Gracie but she's 5ft 9in and grew out of them at 13. She's taken all my belts instead. My favourite is an extra-wide, large-buckle Ralph Lauren belt from the 1990s in pale brown suede and it goes with everything. I was in Sardinia for a week and the airline lost my luggage, so I googled 'bohemian cotton dresses' and went straight from the airport to a boutique in the mountains. I got a beautiful, embroidered blouse and skirt by Sea, New York and a man's shirt and shorts in pyjama-like green and white stripes. I like boutiques where you know whoever sourced the brands has great taste. I also fell for an Instagram post by Rixo and bought a pink dress with white flowers on and puff sleeves, which I love. Brendan Rodgers benches £20m of Celtic talent as veteran makes return in predicted XI vs Aberdeen

The Hoops spent record sums last year but Rodgers has yet to be bankrolled with any significant kitty this summer The numbers might not add up for Celtic so far this summer. ‌ But the Hoops did kick off their title defence with more than £20million worth of talent on their bench. ‌ And it could be the same again this weekend as the champions make the trip to Pittodrie. ‌ Brendan Rodgers has endured a frustrating window with Celts desperately short of attacking options. Nicolas Kuhn and Kyogo have yet to be replaced and alarm bells are ringing amongst the green-and-white faithful. The Champions League playoffs are looming large, and as it stands, the Parkhead board are gambling a £40m windfall. Club supremos left it late last summer, but they did eventually bankroll their manager with an unprecedented kitty - twice shattering their transfer record in a £30m splurge. There's still time to open the chequebook, but the clock is ticking towards the transfer deadline and, more importantly, the European squad D-Day. For now, Rodgers will have to rely upon a threadbare strikeforce and a £9m signing in Adam Idah who has struggled to get going this summer. ‌ Johnny Kenny - who yesterday penned a new four-year contract - made a cameo in the late 1-0 win over St Mirren, with Japan cap Shin Yamada an unused sub. South Korean winger Yang failed to make any real impact, and that could see veteran James Forrest, 34, restored to the starting XI. ‌ While he has few options up front, Rodgers does have an embarrassment of riches to choose from in the middle of the park - so much so that £11m man Arne Engels started the campaign on the bench alongside £3m midfielder Paulo Bernardo. At the back, Auston Trusty had a solid pre-season but the £6m stopper appears to be behind Liam Scales in the current defensive pecking order. Rodgers kept his cards close to his chest when quizzed on Friday on whether new signing Jahmai Simpson-Pusey would be involved against the Dons after arriving on a season-long loan from Man City. ‌ But it's highly unlikely that the towering teenage centre-back will be thrown in to the deep end, having made just six senior appearances. Predicted Celtic XI Goalkeepers ‌ Kasper Schmeichel Viljami Sinisalo Ross Doohan ‌ Defenders Alistair Johnston Anthony Ralston ‌ Cameron Carter-Vickers Jahmai Simpson-Pusey Dane Murray ‌ Liam Scales Auston Trusty Hayato Inamura ‌ Kieran Tierney Midfielders Callum McGregor ‌ Reo Hatate Ben Nygren Luke McCowan ‌ Arne Engels Paulo Bernardo Attackers ‌ Adam Idah Shin Yamada Daizen Maeda ‌ James Forrest Yang Marco Tilio Johnny Kenny Callum Osmand
