Peacock increases subscription price by $3 a month

NBCUniversal's Peacock is rolling out a $3-a-month price hike for most streaming customers.
Beginning July 23, Peacock Premium will cost $10.99 a month, up from the current $7.99 fee, the company announced Thursday. The Premium Plus option will jump to $16.99 a month, up from $13.99.
Customers can pay $109.99 for an annual plan of Peacock Premium or $169.99 a year for its Premium Plus option.
Peacock is not the first streaming service to raise its fees as the cost of sports and other programming escalates.
Netflix raised its price on most plans in January, with its commercial-free standard plan increasing $2.50 a month to $17.99.
Media companies have been ratcheting up the fees as they struggle to transition from highly profitable but declining business models, including a heavy reliance on pay-TV distribution fees.
This spring, the share of viewers watching programs on streaming services eclipsed viewership of linear channels as traditional television companies increasingly focus on their streaming products.
Comcast-owned NBCUniversal has lost billions of dollars building its Peacock streaming service, which launched five years ago. The payoff remains elusive as the service lags Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and others in terms of subscriber counts and audience share.
Depending on billing cycles, some current Peacock subscribers will see the increases in their bills around Aug. 22.
NBCUniversal said it would test a new Peacock 'Select' tier, which will feature current seasons of NBC and Bravo shows and library titles for the former Peacock Premium price of $7.99 a month or $79.99 a year.
The company touted its programming including 'Love Island USA.'
In the television season that begins in September, Peacock will have 'Sunday Night Football,' NBA, WNBA, Premier League, Big Ten and the FIFA World Cup soccer championships in Spanish. It will also broadcast the Super Bowl and Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics and Paralympics in February 2026.
Surges in pricing come as consumers have faced several years of inflation and economic uncertainty. People who ditched their pricey cable bundles in favor of cheaper streaming services have found their total monthly subscriptions can add up quickly.

‘I am your voice': Trump relaunches on TikTok with White House account

Rally highlights, White House glamour shots and his signature moves. President Donald Trump made a surprise return to the popular video app TikTok with three montages posted to a new official @whitehouse account Tuesday night. "America we are BACK," the first post was captioned. Trump pledged "I am your voice" as the video played. The account isn't Trump's first foray with the Chinese-owned app. Both he and his 2024 rivals, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, signed up for TikTok in an effort to reach the 170 million users the company claims it has in the U.S. Trump last posted to his 15 million-plus followers from his former account @realdonaldtrump on Election Day. Candidates especially hoped to court young voters on the platform. But TikTok has faced scrutiny from the U.S. government since Trump's first administration. In August 2020, he released an executive order calling for "aggressive action" against TikTok to protect national security. One Republican-introduced bill that became law in 2022 banned most federal employees from downloading the app on government devices. U.S. authorities have listed concerns about possibilities of stolen U.S. user data and a potentially manipulative and addictive algorithm. Trump threatened to ban the app in his first term, but has thrice in his second term delayed the enforcement of a 2024 bipartisan law requiring TikTok's Chinese-owned parent company, ByteDance, to sell it in the U.S. or be banned. In anticipation of the initial ban deadline, TikTok briefly left app stores in the U.S. the day before Trump's second inauguration and went dark for 14 hours. A pop-up message crediting him appeared when the app started working again, reading, "As a result of President Trump's efforts, TikTok is back in the U.S.!" TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew was among many tech leaders who Trump invited to his inauguration. The company offered various alternatives to divesting, including increased oversight and data protection. The latest pause on the ban is set to end on Sept. 17, though Trump repeatedly vowed to cut a deal for TikTok, even suggesting the sovereign wealth fund he created in February could be used to keep TikTok operating in the U.S. Despite security concerns, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement to ABC News that TikTok will be a powerful tool for the president. "The Trump administration is committed to communicating the historic successes President Trump has delivered to the American people with as many audiences and platforms as possible," Leavitt said. "President Trump's message dominated TikTok during his presidential campaign, and we're excited to build upon those successes and communicate in a way no other administration has before." Leavitt also appeared in a clip on the White House account. The account racked up more than 140,000 followers by Wednesday afternoon, still catching up to Trump's more than 10 million Truth Social followers and more than 108 million followers on his less frequently used X account.

Is Jake Paul fighting Gervonta Davis? What to know about fight between YouTuber, boxing champion

Is Jake Paul fighting Gervonta Davis? What to know about fight between YouTuber, boxing champion originally appeared on The Sporting News Was Jake Paul's next fight announced in an accidental tweet? The X account for Netflix in Turkey tweeted a supposed announcement of a fight between Paul and Gervonta Davis, to be aired live on the streaming platform, but the post was quickly deleted. Paul had reportedly been in talks in recent weeks to fight Anthony Joshua, while Davis saw a potential rematch with Lamont Roach Jr. delayed after a controversial draw in March. Here's what you need to know about a potential fight between Paul and Davis, including the reported date. 📲 Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp Is Jake Paul fighting Gervonta Davis? Netflix's official X account for the country of Turkey tweeted an announcement for a Nov. 15 fight between Paul and Davis before deleting the post on Wednesday. The announcement, while premature, seems to be credible. Paul and Davis will indeed face off in an exhibition fight in November, Ring Magazine's Mike Coppinger reported. The bout will take place at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. MVP CEO Nakisa Bidarian, however, cast some doubt on the report. "Amazing how 'sources' have it confirmed but have it wrong," Bidarian tweeted Wednesday. Coppinger confirmed Paul was in talks to face Joshua this summer, but those talks "collapsed due to network issues," he reported. Davis, meanwhile, was eyeing a potential second fight with Roach after they fought to a controversial draw in March. A rematch was realistic enough that target dates for the match in August were reported earlier this summer, but no agreement was ever made official. When is Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis fight? Paul and Davis are set to fight on Saturday, Nov. 15 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Paul previously fought Ben Askren in Atlanta in 2021, though the bout took place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. State Farm Arena has hosted two fights featuring Davis, with "Tank" defeating Yuriorkis Gamboa in 2019 and Mario Barrios in 2021. MORE:How Jake Paul showed support for Ben Askren during health crisis Jake Paul boxing record Paul has a career boxing record of 12-1. The former YouTuber suffered his only loss against Tommy Fury in 2023 and has won each of his last six professional fights. Paul's last bout came against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in June. Gervonta Davis boxing record Davis has a career boxing record of 30-0-1. The World Boxing Association lightweight title holder has never suffered a professional loss, though he had to settle for a draw against Roach when they met in the ring in March. Jake Paul weight Paul weighed in at 199.4 pounds for his fight against Chavez, after coming down from 227 pounds for his heavyweight bout with Mike Tyson. Paul and Davis almost certainly won't come in at the same weight for November's potential fight, but there would likely be a different limit for each fighter going into the exhibition. MORE:Is Jake Paul planning 'insane' fight with Anthony Joshua for 2026? Gervonta Davis weight Davis generally weighs in near 135 pounds. He weighed in at 133.8 pounds for his March fight with Roach. While Davis may have to add some weight before his potential fight with Paul, the idea of the two fighters weighing in at nearly the same figure is likely unrealistic.
