Aldi's Oasis-tribute 'Aldeh' sign will remain in place at Manchester store, CEO confirms

The 'Aldeh' sign is going to Live Forever after becoming an unexpected tourist spot for fans pouring into the city
Oasis fever is taking the UK by storm and it is now even affecting the signage of one of Britain's much-loved supermarkets. The Oasis reunion tour is underway, with the Gallagher brothers reuniting after a long-standing feud.

The 90s Britpop sensations have put their differences aside to delight audiences with tunes like 'Wonderwall' and 'Champagne Supernova' during a run of 16 UK dates as part of their 2025 tour, including three nights at Edinburgh's Murrayfield

Ahead of their hometown shows in Manchester this month, the Aldi store on Bury New Road in Prestwich, a town three miles north of the city, rebranded its sign to 'Aldeh'.

The sign - a nod to the Mancunian pronunciation of Aldi and a tribute to Oasis' reunion tour - was originally intended as a temporary fixture, due to be taken down after the final Manchester gig.
However, Aldi has now confirmed that the sign will remain in place following an outpouring of public support.

"We've been blown away by the public's reaction to 'Aldeh,' Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK said. "What started as a fun, temporary tribute to Oasis and the local accent has turned into something far bigger.
"We've heard shoppers loud and clear, and we're absolutely delighted to keep the sign up for the long haul. It's been brilliant to see the joy it's brought to fans and the Manchester community."

The sign quickly became an unexpected tourist spot for fans pouring into the city who began queueing for selfies. Posts went viral and a fan petition to make the sign permanent gathered over 1,300 signatures in under a week.
The petition to keep the sign was launched by local Ella Curtis, who wrote: "What started as a nod to a special reunion, quickly took on a life of its own. The rebrand resonated with people across Manchester and beyond.
"Photos of the sign went viral, because it tapped into something meaningful: pride in where we're from, and in what this city has given the world. In short, Prestwich got its own Blue Plaque."

The Prestwich store is a stone's throw from Heaton Park, where Oasis played five sell-out shows this month. The sign is now even listed on Google Maps as a cultural landmark, complete with glowing 5* reviews - with one visitor calling it 'the Stonehenge of a generation'.
Liam Gallagher himself added to the buzz, sharing a picture of the sign on his Instagram story, and Noel's daughter, Anais, got involved by responding on TikTok urging the retailer to make the move.

In the end, Aldi's Chief Executive Officer, Giles Hurley, was left with no choice but to personally endorse the decision.
Giles Hurley, Chief Executive Officer at Aldi UK , took to his LinkedIn to confirm the move, writing: "In celebration of the Oasis reunion tour, Aldi UK renamed our store closest to Heaton Park, Manchester 'Aldeh'.

"The response has been supersonic, with Oasis fans and proud Mancunians visiting the store to see it for themselves. Last week, a petition was launched by a local resident calling for us to keep the sign.
"So naturally, we took to social media to see what our shoppers thought, turns out... people are mad for it and want the sign to stay. I'm pleased to announce that we'll be keeping the Aldeh sign as a tribute to Manchester!"
He amusingly signed the announcement off with a classic Gallagher phrase, adding: "As you were."

Oasis in 'negotiations' to add more tour dates after hugely successful UK shows

Oasis are said to be in "negotiations" to add an extra date to their hugely successful Live '25 tour, which has seen the band perform a string of shows across the UK As the Oasis dates across the UK are coming to an end, there is a possibility that more may be added. Noel and Liam Gallagher have been entertaining fans across Cardiff, Manchester, and now London with their euphoric Oasis Live '25 tour, 16 years after the band split. ‌ The tour was announced last year, almost 15 years to the date of their split, and a move that fans never believed would happen due to the tensions between Liam, 52, and Noel, 58. Ever since Noel walked away, the two siblings have hurled insults at one another across social media and in interviews. ‌ But now, those days are firmly in the past with the two brothers walking out on stage each night holding hands, as though there had never been any bad blood. Currently, the band has two more shows at Wembley Stadium before heading to Edinburgh and then over to Dublin to kick off the global leg of the tour, before heading back to Wembley in September. It comes after Cruz Beckham 'steals' his dad's tiny white trunks and family have epic response. ‌ One place that isn't on the tour dates, though, is Italy. But this could all change in the coming weeks. The Rome City Councillor for Major Events has suggested that there are currently talks to have the band perform in the capital city, Rome. Alessandro Onorato said: "Oasis in the capital? These are live shows for companies that organise events all over the world, and the financial aspect is crucial. Negotiations are underway." He went on to tell Radio Sei that in the past, Rome had missed out on huge opportunities. ‌ He explained: "Organising a large event in Rome is very complicated; in the past, Rome has been the 'city of missed opportunities.'" It's not the first time that Onorato has been vocal about wanting Liam and Noel to perform in the capital. In September last year, days after the reunion was announced, he said: "In 2026, Oasis could take their tour to Europe. And yes, we've applied to host them in Rome." Oasis: What's Their Story? An unofficial celebration magazine on sale now! A few simple words on social media on August 27 in 2024 were enough to spark pandemonium among Oasis fans and were the catalyst for the most eagerly awaited UK gigs of all time. This special unofficial magazine, available to order here, marks the reunion and honours the band both now and down the years with our incredible archive of photos and interviews - and with exclusive reviews and photographs of their first show! ‌ The last time Noel and Liam stepped out on stage together in Italy was in 2009, months before they confirmed their split. They played a string of indoor arenas but due to the level of demand for the reunion, it could see any possible shows taking place at the Stadio Olimpico or San Siro. But, in the past, Oasis' manager, Alec McKinlay has said that the current dates are the only ones that the band will be performing. He said in May: "This is very much the last time around, as Noel's made clear in the press. It's a chance for fans who haven't seen the band to see them, or at least for some of them to. "No, there's no plans for any new music." But Liam later hit out at the comments, saying that they came from "the accountant". Replying to a fan on X, formerly known as Twitter, he fumed: "Neither do I and the only people that will be making any kind of decisions on the future of OASIS will be ME n RKID [Noel] so let's just take it one day at a time." Meanwhile, unconfirmed dates have started floating around social media, with rumours suggesting the band will be performing in Madrid, Frankfurt, Budapest, Stockholm and Paris – as well as four dates at Knebworth. The band have previously confirmed though that there will be no performances at Knebworth.

I tested best supermarket wine dupes – Whispering Angel copy was delicious and only cost £13

IS it worth paying more for a bottle of well-known wine? Supermarket Aldi is currently selling its own offerings at up to 51 per cent less than popular brands. And it's not the only place you can get all the taste of posher plonks at a bargain price. 17 From celebrity pinks to cellar-worthy reds, here drinks expert Helena Nicklin gives us her pick of the best big-name wine dupes. Seek them out in stores to see if you can tell the difference when you are sipping. Brand: Whispering Angel, £22 Dupe: Screaming Devil Rosé, £12.97, Asda 17 WITH its excellent tongue-in-cheek name and at almost exactly half the price of the very famous and very pricey French pink, you know exactly where the plonk producers were aiming here. And the best bit is that it's not all about the great pun on the label as once it's in the glass this rosé is also very good to glug. Another Cotes de Provence like Whispering Angel, it hails from the south of France and just like the winged bottle, Asda's tribute has a similar elegant salmon-pink colour. With subtle peach and strawberry notes and a delightful salty tang, it's great stuff and slips down easily on a summery day. Rating: 4/5. Brand: Bread & Butter Chardonnay, £16 Dupe: Butter Side Up Chardonnay, £8.98, Asda 17 Blind tasting some of football biggest names to see who is the GOAT on and off the pitch WINE drinkers love the Bread & Butter-branded bottle of Californian white because it does exactly what it says on the tin – which is to offer an unapologetically bold, toasty and buttery chardonnay. But all of that doesn't come in cheap with the Napa Valley tipple retailing at not far off £20 a bottle. This Asda tribute aims to do the same and the clue is in the name as to where the influence for its flavours come from. It also hails from America's most famous wine region. But it's a shame this Californian copycat slightly misses the mark when it comes to balance, as the vanilla here feels a bit fake. My advice would be to drink it very cold or it can feel a tad sickly. Old fashioned but still great for those who love that creamy, comfort pudding- style of white wine. Rating: 2/5. Brand: Villa Antinori Toscana Rosso, £20 Dupe: Toscana Rosso, £7.25, Aldi ALDI knows a thing or two about creating decent dupes, and for this wine tribute it has gone properly classy with a more subtle version of a famous, posh Italian tipple that would set you back more than double the money. Luckily their version retails at a far more affordable price. It's made with a blend of international grapes including Tuscany's own sangiovese, which is the grape used to make chianti. This tribute tipple gives spiced, sour cherry and cocoa powder vibes like the original expensive Toscano Rosso, but with a tad more fruitiness and not quite as much going on. Still, it's a great red, ideal for sipping with spag bol and pizza – and the money you'll have saved will pay for a whole basket of goodies. Rating: 4/5. Brand: Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc, £26.50 Dupe: Deluxe New Zealand Sauv Blanc, £8.49, Lidl THE famous Cloudy Bay white was the first to cause ripples with its fantastic branded Marlborough Sauvignon and I would say that it changed the wine world as a result. It became famous for a reason and certainly isn't a premium plonk you'd say no to. But it is very expensive even on a supermarket shelf and unfortunately for them, other producers are now catching up. That's good news for sippers on a budget though. This Lidl tribute tipple is exceptional for the price, giving you all the zesty citrus, cut grass and tropical notes you'd expect from high-end Cloudy Bay without being too much. In a taste test, this would give Cloudy Bay a real run for its money. Rating: 4/5. Brand: Louis Latour Bourgogne Pinot Noir, £21 Dupe: Tradition Pinot Noir, £7.99, Lidl FRANCE'S Burgundy region – which translates to Bourgogne in French – is the spiritual home of pinot noir, and Louis Latour is a big name in this field. A premium heritage with proper credibility and wine buff appeal, this name produces fine plonks and that means sipping one of these famous tipples will start from a high price base. At £21 a bottle it's seriously spendy even if it is one of their cheapest. This Lidl Burgundy is clearly a blend of lesser grapes from around the region but in my opinion that actually gives it a more accessible – if a bit rustic – juicy profile, with ripe, cherry spice. It looks the part, too. A top tribute for a fraction of the price. Rating: 3/5. Brand: Miraval Rosé, £20 Dupe: Monalie Rosé, £9.99, Lidl YOU have to hand it to Lidl for going all out with this Stars In Their Eyes-style blatant dupe of Brad Pitt's marvellous, Miraval pink wine. The bottle shape, label and capsule are all very familiar, bearing an uncanny resemblance to the A-lister vineyard's tipples. And to be fair it's not just a pretty packaging copycat, as the wine in the bottle is decent too. Another Cotes de Provence, just like Miraval, but for half the price of its more famous friend. This is equally dry and elegant, though perhaps a little less charming and less fruity. It might not be made by a star, but it's decidedly drinkable and looks posh. And for half the price, too. Rating: 3/5. Dupe: Coonawarra Barossa Cabernet, £6.69, Aldi THE uncanny likeness of this label from Aldi to the posh sip makes even wine experts like me look twice. The resemblance is certainly remarkable on the shelf. Australian brand Penfolds really sets the benchmark for premium shiraz from Down Under and its Max's cab sauv is something special. It's well worth treating yourself too, but at £22 a time it's hardly a budget bottle. This brilliantly blatant copy from Aldi does a great job with a fudgy, blackcurrant and eucalyptus-scented cabernet for an incredible £6.69. Okay, it hasn't quite got the same class and is a touch sweeter, but it's still cracking in its own right for the super-low price tag. And you can tell it's really from Barossa too, rather than being a generic, sugary blend. Rating: 5/5. Brand: Kylie Signature Rosé, £10 Dupe: Rosalie Rosé, £4.99, Aldi IF you squint, the squiggle on the label could be Kylie's autograph and Aldi's Rosalie also has a very similar-shaped bottle so you'd be forgiven for grabbing the copycat without realising. Kylie's vino is from the Languedoc region of France, however, and is a bit juicier and more generous than the prim and proper pinks of Provence, which is probably why it sells so well. The Rosalie is Provencal, but sadly that's not an upside as it proves why wine from here should never be this cheap-tasting, boggy and unfresh. A great dupe when it comes to doing a double take on the shelf, but when it comes to sipping I'd suggest you try other budget Languedoc pinks that give more Kylie-style flavours for less. Rating: 2/5.

Boozy Oasis fans smash Wembley Stadium record with staggering amount of pints

Oasis fans are making history at Wembley once again – but this time, it's not about record-breaking ticket sales; it's about pints. According to new figures released by Delaware North, the company behind Wembley Stadium's catering operations, Oasis fans have set a new stadium record by guzzling more than a quarter of a million pints of beer per night during the band's current run of shows. That's not a typo, that's 250,000 pints being poured every evening the Gallagher brothers take the stage in London and put on a show many called 'a spiritual experience.' With three out of seven scheduled Wembley gigs completed, and two more lined up this weekend (Saturday, August 2, and Sunday, August 3), the numbers are already staggering, and the final two dates in September are poised to push the total even higher. To put it in perspective: Coldplay fans bought an average of 120,000 pints per show during their 2024 run at the stadium and Taylor Swift's Eras Tour dates sold a comparatively modest 40,000 pints per night. Oasis fans? They've doubled Coldplay's numbers and outpaced Swifties by more than sixfold. With pint prices at Wembley clocking in at £8.20, that translates to £2.05 million in beer sales every night. With approximately 80,000 attendees per gig, the average is just over three pints per person. But with many fans opting for wine, soft drinks, or abstaining altogether, the actual beer drinkers are likely knocking back far more. The logistics behind the scenes are no less intense. Each Oasis show reportedly requires around 4,500 kegs to be moved in and out of the stadium, prompting what The Caterer described as a 'turf war' behind the scenes. With cold storage space running low, catering staff have reportedly resorted to stashing beer kegs in cupboards, under escalators, and in any available nook, a frustrating factor for the cleaning and maintenance teams. More Trending Even the pubs surrounding Wembley have seen a surge in sales as fans flock to them before and after the shows. While some might raise concerns about excessive drinking at concerts, for others, the numbers are a testament to the unique social energy that Oasis continues to command, with old friends reuniting and reliving their rowdy youth. After all, this is a band whose lyrics famously toast Cigarettes & Alcohol — and whose fans now seem determined to toast right back. Got a story?
