Mumbai: Former Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik discharged from Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital

Expressing gratitude following his discharge, Patnaik took to the social media platform X and wrote, 'I would like to thank the entire medical team of @KDAHMumbai and GangaWebteam for providing excellent medical service and taking great care of me pre-surgery and post-surgery. Heartfelt thanks to everyone from #Odisha and outside for their wishes and prayers for my health. Jai Jagannatha.'
Speaking in Bhubaneswar, BJD Vice-President Debi Prasad Mishra told ANI that Patnaik had travelled to Mumbai on June 20 for the medical procedure.
'People of Odisha are very glad to know that their beloved leader, Naveen ji has come out of Ambani hospital (Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital) in Mumbai. He had been to Mumbai on 20th June for the surgery...Now, he has come out of the hospital,' he said.
BJD's Mishra further added,' People are very eager to see him in Odisha at Naveen Niwas...This is a very successful operation. He has been discharged from the hospital and will remain in Mumbai for a few days for physiotherapy and other necessary treatments, as advised by the doctors. He will come back soon, hopefully...'
Meanwhile, on July 3, as the state climbed to fifth place in the national school education rankings for 2023-24, the former CM expressed his happiness on social media, crediting the 5T initiative for the transformation.
The previous Biju Janata Dal government had transformed about 7000 schools to unleash new aspirations and open new horizons for school students.
In a post on X, former CM Naveen Patnaik shared, 'Glad to share that Odisha has earned 5th rank nationally in School Grading System, as per Performance Grading Index (PGI-2.0) Report released by Government of India. Odisha has achieved score of 595.6 and secured PRACHESTA-3 grade for the academic year 2023-24, up from 14th in 2019. The PGI 2.0 evaluates school education through 73 indicators across two categories: Outcomes and Governance & Management.'

Due to continuous rainfall, water seeped into the diagnostic rooms, forcing patients to undergo vital medical tests in waterlogged areas. A family member who had brought his father for an MRI scan described the scene: 'After the rain started, water started accumulating in the rooms. This is risky for the patients and the relatives. This can also cause problems related to electricity. I request the concerned people to look into this.' Another visitor expressed concern after seeing the flooded CT scan area. 'I brought my wife here for the CT scan. I saw that there is water in all the rooms. I am worried about how they are doing the CT scans. There is a risk of a short circuit. The patients are in danger because of the rainwater that fills the rooms. The health department should make sure that the rooms don't get filled with rainwater,' the family member told ANI. Meanwhile, Odisha's Mayurbhanj district last month reported a continuous rainfall that led to severe waterlogging in several blocks and panchayats, particularly in villages near Similipal region. Roads were submerged, forcing residents to wade through knee-deep water to reach their homes. Villagers from the worst-affected areas reported that the crisis has been compounded by poor drainage infrastructure and heavy siltation, which has blocked the natural flow of water. The situation has persisted for many days, leaving nearly 1,000 people with restricted mobility and growing hardships. Meanwhile, on June 29, India welcomed the monsoon, arriving eight days ahead of its expected onset date of July 8. (ANI)

Tripura Cricket Association visits under-15 national-level cricketer battling rare illness
Agartala (Tripura) [India], July 13 (ANI): Nishika Debbarma, a student of North Taukuma Higher Secondary School and a national-level under-15 women's cricketer representing Tripura, is currently battling a rare disease. After prolonged illness, Nishika's condition has worsened, prompting the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) to step forward with support during this critical time. On Sunday, a team from TCA, including Secretary Subrata Dey and TCA Women's Committee Chairman Ranjan Dutta, visited Nishika's residence in the Drop Gate area of Patichhari. They met her parents, inquired about her health, and provided financial assistance to the family. They also assured the family that all necessary arrangements would be made to take Nishika to Christian Medical College (CMC), Chennai, for advanced treatment. The delegation later visited the playground of North Taukuma Higher Secondary School and interacted with aspiring young cricketers present there. TCA officials pledged to upgrade the playground facilities to better support future cricket talent from the region. According to her teachers, Nishika enrolled in class 9 in 2023 and quickly showed a keen interest in cricket. She would often play tennis ball cricket with the boys during recess, where her talent was first noticed. Despite being a new student, she already had the honor of representing Tripura at the national level and later participated in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) U-15 Women's National Tournament. Unfortunately, following her return from the national tournament, Nishika began suffering from an undiagnosed illness. Despite receiving treatment in several locations, her condition did not improve. She was eventually taken to Silchar, where doctors advised immediate treatment at CMC in Chennai. Her health worsened recently, leading to her admission to TMC. After her story was shared on social media, many came forward offering help and support. A few days ago, Nishika emotionally told her teammates, 'I want to live... I want to play cricket again.' However, her deteriorating health has kept her away from the field. Her teacher, who is now the family's primary support, said, 'Nishika's parents have no one else. Right now, I'm their only hope. I want to see my student back on the field again, representing Tripura at the national level.' Subrata Dey, the TCA secretary, told ANI, 'Today, we came to Udaipur along with the Secretary of the Tripura Women's Cricket Association and several others from this sub-division. From the very beginning, we have been actively responding to her health issue. Now, on behalf of the Tripura Cricket Association, we are trying to arrange for her treatment outside the state. The treatment will be carried out through CMC (Christian Medical College).' 'We will provide all possible support from our side. One member from our team will accompany her and will collect all necessary information from the hospital. All medical expenses incurred there will be covered by the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA),' he added. Nishika's teacher, Subir Dutta also told ANI, 'I have known Nishika for the past two years. I was her schools' Sports teacher, and she has always shown a strong interest in sports. Last year, she represented Tripura at the national level. However, after returning from the tournament, she fell ill due to an infection in her lungs. Despite multiple consultations, the doctors have not been able to determine the exact cause of her illness.' 'She was taken to Silchar a few days ago, where doctors recommended that she be taken to CMC in Chennai for further treatment. At that time, I was associated with the Tripura Cricket Association. I reached out to them for help, and they kindly extended their support. As a result, Nishika will be going to Chennai for treatment on the July 14,' the teacher added. The young cricketer's father, Mangaram Debbarama, also told ANI, 'I am Nishika's father. Due to my daughter's health condition, I had requested help from TCA. Dr Abhijat Sheth takes charge as NMC Chairperson, prioritizes quality medical education
By Shalini Bhardwaj New Delhi [India], July 13 (ANI): The Union Cabinet has appointed Dr Abhijat Sheth as the new Chairperson of the National Medical Commission (NMC), replacing Dr Suresh Gangadhar, who stepped down due to health concerns. Dr Sheth, a cardiothoracic surgeon with experience in India and the UK, emphasized his commitment to improving the quality of medical education, promoting good governance, and fostering teamwork to achieve governmental objectives. Speaking to ANI, Dr Sheth said, 'My primary focus is to improve the quality of education, easing the excess and aiming towards the good governance and teamwork to meet the governmental objectives.' Dr Gangadhar had submitted his resignation due to health issues. ''Dr Gangadhar, former chairperson, NMC, had submitted his resignation last October. As there was no suitable candidate available, his tenure was continued,' Official Sources said Dr Sheth is also the President of the National Board of Examinations in Sciences (NBEMS). He will soon be joining as the chairperson of NMC, following a mutual discussion with Dr Gangadhar, the sources said. Dr Gangadhar's tenure saw significant reforms, including grading of medical colleges, WFME accreditation, and streamlined processes, bringing more transparency and consistency in functioning of NMC, revised and more practical CBME, tweaking the qualifications criteria for faculty to make it more user friendly, focusing on faculty development for better outcomes, getting all medical colleges to embrace patient safety at undergraduate level. He institutionalised the use of Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) for real-time monitoring of faculty attendance, and he also advanced a shift towards competency-based undergraduate education. The National Medical Commision (NMC) is India's premier regulatory body overseeing medical education and practice.
