He described the infographic report as having given an inaccurate narrative impact and causing defamation.
'I was quite surprised by the publication of an infographic that was incorrect, very incorrect because I have never seen Datuk Khalid in any event, meeting, or convention or party congress. So that is a slander that for me is very bad.
'We have just established the Media Council, but the structures have not been established yet... But for me, in a situation like this, the Media Council is the best platform for us to manage issues including journalistic ethics as intended,' he said.
He told reporters at the Kita MADANI Carnival at the Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya Federal Territories level which was held at IWK Eco Park, Lembah Pantai here.
Also present was Information Department director-general Julina Johan.
Recently, a local newspaper published an infographic of Mohd Khalid's biodata which stated that he had held a high position in PKR. However, the newspaper has since withdrawn the publication and made a public apology.
It is understood that there have been reports made by the public regarding the publication.
On June 14, Fahmi, in a press conference after the opening of the National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) 2025 Summit at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTCKL) here, announced that the Malaysian Media Council (MMM) Act would come into effect on that day (June 14).
While speaking at the opening of HAWANA 2025, Fahmi also announced that the MMM Founding Board had been finalised.
He said the Founding Board would be made up of 12 people, consisting of four representatives for each category, namely the media company category, media association category, media practitioners and independent media practitioners, as well as the non-media member category.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has requested to remove nearly 38,000 false contents and 8,000 posts related to race, religion and royalty (3R) from social media platforms in a three year period. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said th ministry takes the issue of the spread of false information on social media seriously, especially when it involves attempts to manipulate sentiments related to the race, religion, and royalty (3R) by irresponsible parties, including political troll accounts. "From Jan 1, 2022 to July 1, 2025, a total of 7,846 3R-related contents and 37,845 false contents were removed by platform providers at MCMC's request under Section 233 (for improper use of network facilities or services) of the Communications and Multimedia Act. "Each removal action is carried out based on existing legislation, regardless of the political background or beliefs of the individual, to ensure that freedom of speech is not abused. "The final assessment is also subject to the platform providers according to their community guidelines," he said in a written reply to Kampar member of Parliament Chong Zhemin. He said the MCMC works closely with the police to enforce the Communications and Multimedia Act and other existing laws. "Action can be taken against any individual under Section 233 under the Communications and Multimedia Act who misuses application services, including social media, to create and disseminate false or extremely offensive content with the intent, among others, to hurt, harass, or disturb others. "To further strengthen online safety, Fahmi said MCMC had introduced licensing requirements for internet messaging and social media service providers to obtain the Application Service Provider Class License, effective Jan 1, 2025," he said. Fahmi also said to mitigate online harms, service providers are encouraged to adopt the Code of Conduct (Best Practices) for Internet Messaging and Social Media Service Providers, which was issued by MCMC on Dec 20, 2024.

Malaysia internet coverage hits 98.82% with 5G expansion plans
KUALA LUMPUR: Internet and communication coverage in populated areas across Malaysia has reached 98.82 per cent as of July 31, according to Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. For 5G coverage, he said Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) has completed the construction of 7,489 transmitter sites, collectively providing 82.4 per cent coverage in populated areas. 'The number of 5G subscriptions has exceeded 28 million users, and the mobile 5G broadband penetration rate per 100 people stands at 82.7 per cent,' he said in reply to Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang) at Dewan Rakyat today. Dr Zulkafperi had wanted to know the latest progress and details on the government's 5G rollout programme, as well as the strategies to further expand coverage into rural areas such as Sungai Burong, Sekinchan, and Permatang, with particular focus on those within the Tanjong Karang parliamentary constituency. Fahmi said that in Tanjong Karang, internet and communication coverage in populated areas stands at 99.75 per cent, while the Sungai Besar constituency has recorded a coverage rate of 99.99 per cent. Additionally, he noted that the second 5G network by U Mobile began operating on July 14, with 1,232 sites upgraded to support 5G coverage. On the JENDELA 1 initiative, Fahmi said it is expected to be fully completed by the end of 2025, while plans for JENDELA 2 are currently being reviewed and will be announced in the fourth quarter of 2025 by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). According to Fahmi, the planning process requires assessment of suitable service delivery methods that are fit-for-purpose, as well as the capability of the Universal Service Provision (USP) Fund to finance the project's capital and operational expenditures. 'The types of service delivery solutions currently under consideration are expected to include the construction of new towers and the provision of Internet services via satellite technology,' he explained. Meanwhile, Fahmi said MCMC has undertaken various efforts, including the implementation of the Safe Internet Campaign to raise public awareness, including among schoolchildren, about the dangers of online harm. Govt rules out GEG revival, tightens youth smoking controls, Parliament told
KUALA LUMPUR: The government has no plans to reinstate the previously halted anti-smoking generational endgame (GEG) policy. The Health Ministry said in a parliamentary written reply that it is instead focusing on strict regulatory measures to curb smoking among youths. The ministry said the sale and use of smoking products among minors are already prohibited under Sections 13 and 17 of the Smoking Products Control for Public Health Act 2024 (Act 852). "The Generational Endgame policy is not being implemented for now," it added. The ministry noted that its current strategy involves stringent regulatory measures under the same Act. "These include mandatory product registration, bans on advertising, promotion and sponsorship of tobacco products, sales control, and smoking prohibitions in designated non-smoking areas. "Our priority is to protect young people from the dangers of smoking by enforcing these regulations," it said. Datuk Ahmad Saad @ Yahaya (PN-Pokok Sena) had asked about the ministry's consideration for reinstating the GEG policy. The policy, which was halted, aimed to create a smoke-free generation by prohibiting the sale and use of tobacco and smoking products (including e-cigarettes and vapes) to individuals born on or after Jan 1, 2007. This policy was a key component of the Control of Tobacco Products and Smoking Bill 2022. The GEG provisions were later removed before the Bill was passed by the Dewan Rakyat .
