Emmerdale casts EastEnders star Joe Absolom as dark new story is confirmed

Metro2 days ago

Former EastEnders star Joe Absolom has joined the cast of Emmerdale as part of a dark new storyline involving Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb).
Joe, who rose to fame as Matthew Rose in the BBC One soap during the 90s, will play a former contact of Mack's named Ray.
Ray arrives in the village in upcoming scenes with a calm and collected exterior, claiming to be selling farm machinery, but it's not long before his drug dealing ways come to light – and a menacing streak surfaces.
Discussing his casting, Joe said: 'Well what an honour to join such a talented team at Emmerdale! It's an iconic show and I'm grateful to be part of it. I can't wait to see what's in stock for Ray!'
Emmerdale boss Laura Shaw added: 'We are thrilled to welcome Joe Absolom to the cast. 'It's fantastic to have such a high calibre and immensely talented actor join our wonderful team to play the role of Ray.
'Charming, charismatic and effortlessly likeable, Ray is an extremely complex character who very quickly shows his dark and villainous side to some of our most loved villagers, leaving them in no doubt as to what he's capable of.'

Mackenzie isn't exactly having the best year after he was accused of causing the slurry leak which led to Harry's hospitalisation, not to mention Claudette and Charles Anderson suffering a spell of sickness in the aftermath due to the contaminated water supply.
He was also the subject of a flash-forward that we still know little about as he was seemingly chased through the woods – or at the very least was seen running away from something.
To top it all off, Mack was also trapped in Lewis Barton's (Bradley Riches) loft this week when he and Ross (Michael Parr) concocted a scheme to try take the newcomer's cannibis plants. More Trending
But just what trouble will Ray bring to his door?
Actor Joe is best known for his time in Walford between 1997 and 2000 as Matthew Rose, who was famously framed for the murder of Saskia Duncan (Deborah Sheridan-Taylor), who had actually been killed by club owner Steve Owen (Martin Kemp).
Since leaving EastEnders, he has went on to land roles in The Bill, New Tricks, Doc Martin, Death in Paradise and A Confession – and recently appeared in Silent Witness.

Inside British Soap Awards afterparty - bleary-eyed stars smoking and bomb scare

A whole host of soap stars let their hair down at the British Soap Awards in London last night before a reported bomb scare ground the show's afterparty to a halt Stars of the nation's favourite soaps were papped looking bleary-eyed as they left the British Soap Awards in London last night. The glitzy event, which was held at Hackney Town Hall, celebrated the creative cast from a whole host of shows, including EastEnders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale. After the ceremony in which EastEnders waltzed away with an impressive eight gongs, beating Emmerdale, Corrie and Hollyoaks to take home Best British Soap, a slew of excitable stars let their hair down at the afterparty. Jaime Winstone, Patsy Palmer and Tina O'Brien were among those snapped at the bash, which went on until the early hours. ‌ ‌ Award-winning actor Ray Winstone's daughter, Jaime, was seen puffing on a cigarette, sporting a thigh-high white a gold dress as she left the venue with Bianca Jackson star, Patsy Palmer. Patsy looked stunning in a blue silk blazer and matching trousers, which set off her red hair a treat as she grinned after watching EastEnders clean up at the awards. Also representing EastEnders was Jack Branning star, Scott Maslen. He was also seen puffing on a cigarette, wearing a tux and holding a bottle of beer, as he celebrated the success of Albert Square. ‌ The actor was joined at the knees-up by fellow Walford wonders, Anita Dobson, who played the iconic Angie Watts, and Ian Beale star Adam Woodyatt. Meanwhile, representing Coronation Street, actress Tina O'Brien was seen making an exit from the after party in the early hours. She looked stunning in a floor-length nude coloured dress with gold sequins, clutching a baby pink bag as she made her way to her hotel in the capital. ‌ Also at the bash on behalf of Corrie, was actor Jack P Shepherd and Mollie Gallagher, who looked quite content chomping on a burger in the street, wearing a gorgeous powder blue dress with tuille detail and a cute black hair bow. Despite letting their hair down at the glamourous bash, the night allegedly ended abruptly for the soap stars after they were suddenly asked to leave the venue shortly before 1am after the event had reportedly received a bomb threat. ‌ Speaking to the Mirror, our source said: "We all got evacuated just before 1am. No reason was given at first and security came round and told us we had to leave immediately. "As we all waited in the street outside, security told us there had been a bomb threat. We weren't allowed back in the building so people started making their way home." In a video shared with us, some of TV's biggest soap stars can be seen waiting outside the venue as more evacuate - with the likes of ' and former star Emmett J Scanlan among them. ‌ A show source also told The Mirror: "Owing to a security alert after the recording of the awards, it was necessary to evacuate the after party venue. Everyone was cleared from the building safely." The Metropolitan Police also told us: "At 00:49hrs on Sunday, 1 June, police were called to Hackney Town Centre after a threat was made to the premises. The call was determined to be a hoax and nothing suspicious was located." ‌ The Mirror has contacted ITV. Despite the reported drama after the ceremony, the awards were a real celebration of the best the soap world has to offer. ‌ EastEnders was honoured with a total of eight awards- including Best Dramatic Performance for Steve McFadden and Best Single Episode for Phil Mitchell's psychosis. Meanwhile, Hollyoaks won three gongs, Emmerdale took home two and Coronation Street left with one - the Outstanding Achievement Award to David Neilson, who has played Roy Cropper for 30 years.

Dani Dyer and Jarrod Bowen marry as she shares stunning wedding pictures at luxury hotel

Dani Dyer and Jarrod Bowen marry as she shares stunning wedding pictures at luxury hotel Dani Dyer and Jarrod Bowen have tied the knot in an outdoor ceremony and the former Love Island star shared the news with her fans on Instagram Jarrod Bowen and Dani Dyer (Image: 2025 Dave Benett ) Former Love Island star Dani Dyer has tied the knot with West Ham United and England footballer Jarrod Bowen in a beautiful outdoor wedding. Dyer, who rose to fame after winning the fourth series of ITV's hit dating show Love Island in 2018 alongside partner Jack Finchman, is also known as the daughter of EastEnders legend Danny Dyer. ‌ Delighting her Instagram followers on Saturday, Dyer posted a heartfelt photograph of the newlyweds walking down the aisle hand-in-hand, captioned "The Bowens". ‌ The 28-year-old reality star has given a few details about her nuptials during the planning process. Dani opted for a low-key wedding, and keen to stick to tradition, she reportedly stayed separately from her football star fiancé on the eve of the wedding as she stayed with her parents, Danny and Jo. The Mirror reports the couple went for a pastel colour scheme at the £500-a-night Langley Hotel in Buckinghamshire, where the nuptials took place. The luxury hotel was originally built as a hunting lodge for the third Duke of Marlborough and includes 150 acres of formal gardens and parklands, originally designed by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown, a serpentine lake and an outdoor pool. It is close to Pinewood Studios and just 40 minutes drive from central London, making it a favourite with film stars, including Tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie and Jeff Goldblum. ‌ Content cannot be displayed without consent Clearly a fan of Bridgerton, the TV star's nuptials were said to be themed around the Netflix hit, with lots of violins there to perform music. And while the celebrity couple's fan base is large, the guest list for their VIP wedding has been kept small as the couple are said to have invited only 50 guests to celebrate their big day. ‌ In May 2023, the couple celebrated the arrival of their twins, Summer and Star, and shared the sweet update of their engagement in July the previous year on Instagram with a simple yet profound caption reading "us forever" with a ring emoji for emphasis. She also shares a child, Santiago – who she calls Santi, with her ex-Sammy Kimmence, who she dated before appearing on Love Island and after her split from Finchman. Dyer later separated from Kimmence, who was jailed for three-and-a-half years in 2021 for defrauding two pensioners out of more than £34,000. ‌ Danny Dyer and Dani Dyer (Image: PA Wire/PA Images ) Besides her reality TV fame, Dyer has featured on Channel 4's Celebrity Gogglebox with her father, providing laughs and sharp critiques. In a 2021 episode of EastEnders, Dani made a memorable guest appearance as Jeanette, a pregnant taxi driver, in scenes with her actual father's character, Mick Carter. Article continues below Looking forward, Dyer is set to appear in an exciting new Sky TV series, working with her father. They will be taking on a charming investment project running their own caravan park on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent, an adventure that fans can follow in "The Dyers' Caravan Park".
