Raj Thackeray's remarks about Patel community spark outrage in Gujarat; AAP, Patidars demand apology

AHMEDABAD: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray's controversial remarks against Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and former Prime Minister Morarji Desai have sparked a political storm in Gujarat. Leaders from the Patidar community and the Aam Aadmi Party have lashed out, accusing Thackeray of inciting regional hatred and insulting national icons to revive his fading political relevance.
Raj Thackeray, in a meeting on July 18, alleged that certain Gujarati businessmen and leaders had once tried to separate Mumbai from Maharashtra. In his speech, he mentioned names including Sardar Patel and Morarji Desai, which did not go down well in Gujarat.
Reacting strongly, Patidar leader Alpesh Kathiria slammed Thackeray's statements as an 'insult to Gujarat's dignitaries' and accused him of fostering a divisive 'Marathi mentality.'
He said, 'Raj Thackeray is attempting to vilify national heroes just to stir up anti-Gujarati sentiments and breathe life into his politically defunct party.'
Kathiria added, Raj has no moral right to denigrate the legacy of Sardar Patel and Morarji Desai.
'This is not just an insult to Gujarat but to India as a whole,' Kathiria said, demanding a public apology. 'Targeting Sardar Saheb and Morarji Desai is an attempt to reignite regional tension. We won't tolerate such political stunts at the cost of national unity.'

MNS Activists Blacken Face OfNIT Officer Over Alleged Graft

1 2 Nagpur: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activists on Thursday blackened the face of assistant engineer with Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), Suresh Chavan, at the trust's East Division office over his alleged involvement in corruption. While the NIT claimed that the ink attack was due to personal enmity, MNS office-bearers maintained it was the result of negligence by NIT's senior officials, despite multiple complaints against the official in question. MNS's city unit secretary, Ghanshyam Nikhade, said the party's office-bearers had given multiple complaints against Chavan to senior NIT officials, but they did not take any action and instead protected him. "Even on July 18, we had submitted a written complaint regarding corruption by Chavan, but the officials neither took any action nor transferred him. Had action been taken by the seniors, the incident could have been avoided," said Nikhade. He also added that NIT officials are contacting party office-bearers from rural Nagpur who do not have any knowledge about the issue. A senior NIT official told TOI that the attack was due to personal animosity. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Mini House for 60 sqm for Seniors with Toilet and Bath (Prices May Surprise You) Pre Fabricated Homes | Search Ads Search Now Undo "We have directed the official to file a police complaint as the incident happened on NIT premises. We have also given a complaint in writing to the police," said the official. MNS claimed that on Sept 13, 2023, under the leadership of Sandeep Deshpande and Raju Umralkar, the party had taken out a protest march to the NIT office and submitted a memorandum to the then chairman, Manojkumar Suryawanshi. "At the time, Chavan had been serving continuously for 10 years at the NIT's East Division office without transfer. This prolonged tenure enabled him to carry out several large-scale irregularities. For example, he reportedly collected lakhs of rupees from encroachers of NIT-owned land in Mouza-Chikhali (Dev) by promising them unauthorized land allotments," said MNS. The MNS also accused Chavan of embezzling govt funds under the guise of development works in Bhandkheda (Central Nagpur) by submitting fake bills for cement road projects that were either not carried out or were actually done by the NMC. "All these instances of corruption, along with supporting evidence, were submitted to various authorities, including the then chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union minister Nitin Gadkari, and other concerned govt agencies. The chief minister's office acknowledged the memorandum and directed immediate investigation. However, NIT officials dismissed these directives and took no action. On the contrary, with support from certain political figures and senior NIT officials, Chavan allegedly got himself re-appointed to the East Division to resume his corrupt activities after being briefly transferred to West Division office," the MNS alleged in a press note.

Baloch leader Mir Yar Baloch slams Trump's statement on Pakistan oil, says it belongs to ‘Republic of Balochistan'

Quetta, July 31 (UNI) Dismissing US President Donald Trump's statement about helping Pakistan tap its big reserves of oil in Balochistan province, Mir Yar Baloch, one of the most prominent Baloch voices, said that the "oil belongs to Balochistan, and not Pakistan". Taking to X, he posted a lengthy message following Trump's message where he had earlier said that Washington had conducted a deal with Islamabad under which 'Pakistan and the United States will work on developing their Oil reserves.' Disparaging the US President's statement, Baloch wrote that Trump had been 'gravely misled by the Pakistani military leadership, particularly General Asim Munir, and by their diplomatic channels regarding the true geography and ownership of these critical resources.' He added: 'These untapped reserves of oil, natural gas, copper, lithium, uranium, and rare earth minerals are not located within the territories of Punjab which is the actual Pakistan. 'They belong to the Republic of Balochistan, a historically sovereign nation currently under illegal occupation by Pakistan. The claim that these resources belong to Pakistan is not only false, it is a deliberate attempt to misappropriate Balochistan's wealth for political and financial gain.' He further emphasised that should a deal go through, they would by no means benefit the people of the province, but rather all that money would be funnelled by the Pakistani military and its intelligence wing – the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) – to enhance their operation capabilities in expanding their 'global terror network,' and for strengthening "anti-India and anti-Israel jihadist proxies", destabilising the region. Stating that protecting the Baloch people is a matter of global security, he remarked 'There is no doubt: Balochistan is not for sale. We will not permit Pakistan, China, or any other foreign power to exploit our land or its resources without the explicit consent of the Baloch people. Our sovereignty is non-negotiable, and our struggle for rightful ownership and independence continues with dignity and resilience.' Mir Yar Baloch further called on the US and the international community to recognise the sovereignty of the Baloch people, and aid in their independence.
