Super Bowl champion Bryan Braman dead at 38 after battling cancer
The former NFL defensive end and member of the Philadelphia Eagles leaves behind two daughters. The Eagles' Super Bowl LII victory in February of 2018 was his final appearance in the NFL.
Diagnosed in February, Bryan's unspecified condition was later revealed in a GoFundMe drive aimed at covering his medical expenses. His former Texans teammate, JJ Watt, personally donated $10,000.
A June 20 update by GoFundMe organizer William Jones explained that 'Bryan is home with his family after undergoing a Car-t cell reprogramming treatment program in Seattle'.
Initially, the Car-t cell reprogramming appeared successful and his cells started 'reproducing within his bone marrow,' according to Jones. But while the mass began shrinking, the 'cancer started fighting back,' Jones explained.
He added: 'Bryan has not given up. He is looking into other trial treatment programs, and is determined to never give up.'
The campaign raised nearly $90,000 for Bryan.

Although he went undrafted out of Idaho in 2011, Bryan developed a bit of a cult following as a special teams contributor in Houston, blocking several punts, including one for a touchdown. He was named as a Pro Bowl alternate in 2012.
He moved on to Philadelphia in 2014 and New Orleans in 2017, but suffered an injury and was placed on injured reserve before being released.
He then signed the Eagles in December before blocking a punt from the Atlanta Falcons' Matt Bosher in a 15-10 divisional-round playoff win.
Bryan later recorded a single tackle in the Eagles' 41-33 Super Bowl LII win over the New England Patriots in February of 2018.
But his biggest contributions for the Eagles may have come in the locker room, according to former teammate Chris Long.
Long told the Ryen Russillo podcast in 2020: 'We had a guy named Bryan Braman, special teams guy, looks like he's in a biker gang, long hair.
'Bryan Braman was an absolute psychopath and he was like our cameo speech guy. And sometimes he would just, real impromptu, start screaming and looking like a fucking hedgehog, knocking shit over in the locker room, eyes bulging out of his head.
'And, of course, he did look like a Sons of Anarchy dude so you were like, yeah, I'm listening. But Braman got going Super Bowl Sunday and I was like, "Yeah, you got it, bro"."
There has been an outpouring of grief on social media since news of Bryan's death was revealed. Eagles fans, in particular, have been offering their thoughts and prayers online.
'Phenomenal human being and forever a champion,' one such fan wrote. 'Rest in peace, Bryan.'

Jets' Justin Fields participates in QB drills, despite toe injury
July 26 - New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields participated in individual quarterback drills at training camp on Saturday morning, despite a dislocated toe on his right foot. The drills included rollouts and some throwing. Team drills remain off limits for now for Fields, who is considered day-to-day. Fields sustained the injury Thursday in camp in Florham Park, N.J., and was carted off the field. Tests showed the injury to be relatively minor compared to initial fears of a more serious issue. The Jets also have veteran backup Tyrod Taylor on the roster. Adrian Martinez, the 2024 United Football League MVP, and rookie Brady Cook also are in the quarterback room. A 2021 first-round pick of the Chicago Bears, Fields signed a two-year, $40 million contract in March, and the Jets are counting on him to replace Aaron Rodgers. Fields is 14-30 as a starter and has passed for 7,780 yards with 45 touchdowns and 31 interceptions in 50 games with the Bears (2021-23) and Pittsburgh Steelers 2024). He has rushed for 2,509 yards and 19 touchdowns. The Jets open the 2025 season on Sept. 7 against the Steelers and their new quarterback, ex-Jet Rodgers, at home in East Rutherford, N.J. --Field Level Media

Dolphins sign CB Jack Jones after Artie Burns injury
July 26 - The Miami Dolphins signed free agent cornerback Jack Jones in response to the season-ending injury suffered by Artie Burns in practice on Wednesday. The team announced the signing on Saturday but did not reveal the terms. ESPN reported Jones signed a one-year deal. He was at work at training camp in Miami Gardens, Fla., on Saturday. CBS Miami posted video to its X account showing Jones talking with head coach Mike McDaniel. Jones, 27, was selected by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He spent his first season in New England before being waived on Nov. 13, 2023. The Las Vegas Raiders claimed him off waivers the following day and released him in April after unsuccessfully trying to trade him. The move saved the Raiders $3.4 million in cap space. Jones appeared in 17 games for the Raiders last season (16 starts). He intercepted three passes, returning one for a touchdown, and defended 16 passes. He made a career-high 69 tackles. On the flip side, Jones allowed 698 yards and nine touchdowns. In 42 career games (21 starts), Jones has seven interceptions and four touchdowns to go with a forced fumble and fumble recovery. He also has 27 passes defended and 136 tackles. The Dolphins put Burns on season-ending injured reserve but did not divulge his exact injury. Multiple outlets reported he tore an ACL. Burns signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins in the offseason and Miami is thin at cornerback without him. The Dolphins traded Jalen Ramsey to the Pittsburgh Steelers and could have multiple undrafted free agents in the starting three at corner alongside Cam Smith. Storm Duck, Kader Kohou and Ethan Bonner -- all undrafted -- are competing with rookie fifth-rounder Jason Marshall Jr., undrafted free agent rookies BJ Adams and Ethan Robinson. With Jones' signing, Miami waived cornerback Ryan Cooper Jr. The Dolphins open the 2025 season on Sept. 7 in Indianapolis against the Colts. --Field Level Media

Aaron Judge has imaging on elbow, out vs. Phillies
July 26 - Yankees superstar right fielder Aaron Judge underwent imaging on his right elbow Saturday morning and is not in the lineup for the afternoon game against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies. "He had a throw in Toronto where it zinged him, it hurt," manager Aaron Boone told reporters Saturday, referencing Tuesday's 5-4 victory in Toronto when the Yankees captain winced in apparent pain after making a routine throw. "Then, you know, felt good to go on the off day, and then last night, though, just was struggling to throw a little bit. So want to get this checked out." Boone said it was "tough to say" whether the current elbow issue occurred during that throw in Toronto. He said the elbow issue appears to be affecting Judge's throwing more than his hitting. "It was more about throwing last night, like he couldn't really get the ball in very well," Boone said. "So felt like want to have him down and get the imaging and get our hands around just what exactly we're dealing with." Judge, 33, belted his 37th home run of the season and 352nd of his career on Wednesday to pass Alex Rodriguez for sixth place in Yankees history. Yogi Berra is fifth with 358. The two-time American League MVP currently paces the majors in batting average (.342), on-base percentage (.449) and slugging percentage (.756). He leads the AL in runs (90) and RBIs (85). --Field Level Media
