Broncos Predicted to Land Free Agent Receiver
The Denver Broncos' offense exceeded nearly all expectations in 2024. The team selected Bo Nix with the No. 12 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and many in the building were excited about what Nix and the offense could achieve under the guidance of Sean Payton, even if it was fair to expect some growing pains from a rookie quarterback.

Nix showed a lot of positives in his rookie season, completing 66.3% of his passes for 3775 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions as the Broncos made the postseason for the first time since 2015. A positive for the offense was Nix's connection with Courtland Sutton, who arguably had a career year, catching 81 passes for 1,081 yards and eight touchdowns.
Sutton enters the season as Nix's top target once again. Still, the Broncos added pass-catchers Pat Bryant and Evan Engram through the NFL Draft and free agency, hopefully adding more pop to a receiving core that needed an upgrade. However, there could be more help for Nix and the offense.
Per Seth Walder of ESPN, the Broncos are a potential destination for veteran receivers Keenan Allen or Amari Cooper, who are free agents searching for new teams.

In an article where Walder graded every NFL team's offseason grade, Walder handed the Broncos an excellent 'A-' grade, praising the team's direction and the moves made, but wished the Broncos did more at receiver.
'I wanted to see the Broncos do more at receiver. Besides counting on Courtland Sutton and Engram, they are likely hoping for Marvin Mims Jr. or Troy Franklin to break out. Perhaps they'll end up making a move for another veteran -- maybe Keenan Allen or Amari Cooper?' Walder writes.
Allen spent the 2024 season with the Chicago Bears, catching 70 passes for 744 yards and seven touchdowns, while Cooper was traded to the Buffalo Bills midway through the season and struggled to acclimate, catching 20 balls for 297 yards and two touchdowns in eight games. Both remain free agents, likely because of their drop-off in play from 2024, and because of the healthy receiver landscape across the NFL.
However, the Broncos have options at receiver already, and neither would need to come in and earn 120 targets, especially in an offense that could run the ball more efficiently in 2025. A move could manifest itself.

Red River rivals Malcolm Roach, Marvin Mims Jr. add spice to Broncos camp with good-natured barbs
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Usually if there's any chirping going on at sweltering NFL training camps, it's between the massive offensive and defensive linemen who are pounding into each other or the wide receivers and cornerbacks fighting for 50-50 passes. The biggest beef at the Denver Broncos' training camp this summer is between 6-foot-3, 290-pound defensive tackle Malcolm Roach, a notorious smack talker, and 5-11, 184-pound receiver Marvin Mims Jr., the NFL's reigning All-Pro punt returner. Asked about the chirping back and forth at a spirited practice this week, Mims replied, 'Yeah, I mean, it's just Malcolm Roach. I mean, I sit next to him in the locker room, guy doesn't shut up. He's talking crap to receivers. It's like, 'Dude, like, you're a fat guy. Like, go worry about that. Leave me alone.'' They then took their 'beef' to social media, jawing online. Roach stepped up to the podium Friday knowing the first question would be about his good-natured bickering with Mims. 'Y'all think I really worry about 19?' Roach said. 'I see him every day in the locker right by mine. Y'all think I talk? He really talks more than me. But I ain't worried about Marvin. Marvin knows he's not about to cut that ball back across the middle. That's all I have to say about that.' Of course, Roach did have more to say. 'I can lose this weight,' Roach said. 'He can't lose them looks.' When coach Sean Payton was asked about the back-and-forth, he expressed surprise at the combatants. 'Malcolm, you hear him before you see him, and I like that energy about him," Payton said. "But, yeah, I wouldn't have picked Mims and Roach. I would have picked so many other combos." Maybe it has roots in the Red River Rivalry. Roach went to the University of Texas; Mims hails from the University of Oklahoma. First pick Bo Nix finally threw his first interception of training camp, and it was a doozy. Safety Talanoa Hufanga made a leaping grab near the line of scrimmage for a pick-6 during team drills Friday. 'The interception, it was an RPO (run/pass option) and if you look at his distance from the throw I bet it was like eight yards,' Payton said. "And so to be able to go up and catch that with a crowded look in front of him? I'm anxious to seek it on film. I saw it from behind the line of scrimmage.' That's the kind of play the Broncos are counting on this season from the free agent who left the San Francisco 49ers along with inside linebacker Dre Greenlaw to come to Denver last spring. 'You know, if I asked you to give us the best safeties that are in the Hall of Fame, the traits are always instincts and football smarts,' Payton said. "Some are faster than others, but it's hard to be real effective at that position if you don't have those football instincts. And certainly he brings that. I made a comment in the offseason: there's certain players the ball finds them, and he's one of those guys. 'So, that play was sick.' Under construction Construction of the Broncos' $175 million training facility hit a milestone Friday with a ' topping out ' ceremony to commemorate the final beam being lifted into place. Team owner Carrie Walton Penner signed the timber before a giant crane lifted the structural beam from the north side of the construction site to the south facade. The Broncos broke ground last year on the 205,000-square-foot facility that will combine their football and business operations under one roof for the first time in franchise history. NRL fans fume over missed Reece Walsh act as Bennett rocked over 18th man drama
South Sydney coach Wayne Bennett was left stunned after the Rabbitohs were forced to play the game against the Broncos without an 18th man due to injuries as Reece Walsh copped backlash for a questionable tackle late in the game. Bennett has never received the wooden spoon as a NRL coach throughout his illustrious career, but the Rabbitohs' injury toll is making it a very difficult task in 2025 with the side lining up against Michael Maguire's men with only 17 fit players. Peter Mamouzelos was selected as 18th man, but was a late withdrawal after suffering from delayed concussion symptoms from his head knock two weeks ago. And this left the Rabbitohs struggling to field a full team and they were hammered 60-14 after Walsh and Kotoni Staggs led the Broncos riot. Latrell Mitchell, Cameron Murray, Campbell Graham and Cody Walker are all out injured with a number of other stars missing in the squad. Bennett has been dealing with an extensive list of absentees all year and Mamouzelos' late withdrawal left him in a position he had never been before. South Sydney had no one else they could place in the 18th man role with too many injuries in the squad leaving them depleted. Jamie Humphreys was also a late withdrawal due to concussion. To make matters worse for Bennett's side, they lost dummy-half Ryan Gray to a shoulder injury early in the match. And Bennett was nearly lost for words having seen it all in his 38 year coaching career. "I haven't gone close to that," Bennett said post-match about playing with no 18th man. "We had eight or nine at Redcliffe last year at one stage, but we're on 13 today. We didn't have an 18th man tonight. The 18th man pulled out before the game. (Mamouzelos) had headaches from concussion two weeks ago and he'd been cleared and passed all the tests but he still wasn't well. We made the decision before the game not to put him on the bench." The Rabbitohs and Bennett have now lost nine straight games and are entrenched on the bottom of the ladder. He has never received a wooden spoon since starting coaching in the premiership competition in 1987. With one bye still to go, the Rabbitohs face the Eels and Titans in their remaining fixtures. The Titans are also equal-last on the ladder on 16 points with a game against the Penrith Panthers this weekend. While their was no lack of effort from the Rabbitohs contingent in the 60-14 thrashing, they would have felt aggrieved after Walsh faced no sanction for a questionable tackle in the 70th minute. Reece Walsh escaped penalty for questionable tackle Walsh was instrumental in the 60-14 hammering having scored a try, provided three try assists and made a linebreak. Although it was a tackle in the 70th minute that had fans fuming. The Rabbitohs made a rare break down field after an intercept and Staggs chased down Bayleigh Bentley-Hape. The Broncos were scrambling on the following play when Walsh got back into the line and delivered what looked like a shoulder charge on Tyrone Munro. "What is happening," Billy Slater said in Channel Nine commentary as the game continued. And fans were left fuming at the incident. Amid the chaos and tired bodies, Walsh appeared to make little attempt to wrap his arms around Munro as he launched himself into the Rabbitohs back. Fortunately for the Rabbitohs, Lachlan Hubner scored two plays later in a consolation try. But fans were left fuming Walsh escaped punishment, which followed Rabbitohs five-eighth Jack Wighton copping a four-game ban last week for a shoulder charge. Fans could not believe the moment was let go without even a penalty. The Match Review Committee will have a chance to review the tackle - to see if there was anything in the tackle - and the game, before making a decision.
