Kabir Bedi revealed how he was left devastated emotionally and financially in the late 1990s after the death of his son Siddharth by suicide.
Kabir Bedi, the veteran actor whose career has spanned continents and decades, recently opened up about a dark chapter in his life that left him both emotionally shattered and financially devastated. In a deeply personal revelation, he recalled how his son Siddharth's tragic death by suicide in the late 1990s coincided with a time when he was battling serious financial difficulties. The actor admitted that this period nearly broke him, both personally and professionally.
'Main tabaah ho gaya tha (I was ruined)," Kabir said, describing how he lost control of his life. 'Not just financially, but emotionally also because it came at a point where my financial investments went against me. At that time, my son passed away so it was such a time in the late 1990s that I didn't know what I was doing." He recalled going through auditions but feeling lost, unable to comprehend what he was doing or saying. 'I would go for auditions and I couldn't understand what I was saying. I lost work, opportunities and the situation just kept getting worse."
The spiral of grief and poor financial decisions pushed him to a breaking point. 'Barbaad ho jaunga, sadko pe aa jaunga main (I will be ruined, I will be out on the streets)," he remembered thinking. That fear, however, also became the turning point. Kabir made a conscious decision to take back control of his life. 'I decided to go back to my strengths," he said, adding that he moved to England to rebuild himself 'one project at a time."
Born on January 16, 1946, in Lahore, Kabir Bedi is one of the few Indian actors to have achieved international fame, particularly in Europe and Hollywood. His breakout role was in the Italian TV series Sandokan, which catapulted him to stardom across Europe. He also played the villain Gobinda in the James Bond film Octopussy, and appeared in American TV shows like The Bold and the Beautiful. Back home, he featured in critically acclaimed films like Kurbaan, Kacche Dhaage, Khoon Bhari Maang, and more.
His life has been filled with highs and lows — global stardom, failed marriages, personal losses, and financial turmoil. Yet, Kabir Bedi remains a towering figure in cinema, not just for his contributions to film but for his resilience and honesty in sharing his story.
