Anfield Watch exclusively revealed back in the winter that Liverpool had received an offer of around £70m for Nunez from Al-Hilal. The Reds rejected it, however, as they didn't want to lose an important player mid-season.
It didn't make sense for them as they marched towards the Premier League title and, at the time, harboured hopes of winning the UEFA Champions League. As it turned out, Nunez played very little part of the season half of the campaign.
That made it all the more clear that Liverpool would ultimately sell. The striker doesn't quite fit into Arne Slot's plans but his ability and profile naturally draws suitors.

With that in mind, the sale took a major step forward this week.
Nunez is wanted in Italy
Corriere Dello Sport reports that both AC Milan and Napoli want to sign Nunez. They're each in the market for a top-level striker and feel the Uruguayan can be that.
The idea for both parties is that Nunez might be a better fit there than he is at Liverpool. Though, we should add that the forward's record at Anfield is actually very solid - he's just not quite reliable enough in front of goal for Slot's system.
Two major clubs deciding they are interested in Nunez is a giant step forward, then, as Liverpool can now enter talks with some competition for their player. There was a real risk of that, given he finally rejected Al-Hilal ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.

And so this one could move forward quite quickly. Both Milan and Napoli are prepared to negotiate with Nunez as their top target, meaning these are serious negotiations rather than just 'exploratory' talks.
The player is said to be willing to move to Italy, too, which is another vital piece of the puzzle here. We could now see click together in what we imagine will be Liverpool's biggest sale of the summer.

Top prospect Roman Anthony powers Red Sox past Mariners with 1st career home run in 1st game since Rafael Devers trade
Times are tumultuous for the Red Sox. But there was reason to celebrate in Boston Monday night. Top prospect Roman Anthony hit his first career home run. It helped spark a 2-0 win for the Red Sox over the Seattle Mariners. Advertisement The win arrived in Boston's first game since the stunning trade of All-Star slugger Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants. Starting pitcher Lucas Giolito was credited with the win after throwing six shutout innings. Red Sox brass addresses Devers trade before Monday's game Boston dealt Devers to the Giants Sunday afternoon, sending the ninth-year Red Sox veteran across the country in a trade that sent shockwaves across MLB. Devers was the last remaining member of Boston's 2018 World Series championship team and appears to be on pace for his fifth straight All-Star bid amid another standout season at the plate. If he does make the All-Star game, he'll do so as a Giant. The trade prompted hard questions for Red Sox executives Craig Breslow and Sam Kennedy prior to Monday's game. Advertisement Once their media availability was over, it was time to get down to actual baseball. And, for a night at least, baseball for Boston was a success, thanks in part to baseball's No. 1 prospect. Anthony took the plate as the No. 3 hitter in the top of the first inning with the bases empty. With a 2-2 count, Mariners starter Logan Gilbert threw a 96 mph fastball to the upper outside corner of the strike zone. Anthony reached across the plate and pulled a deep fly ball that carried over the right centerfield wall. The home run was the first of Anthony's MLB career in his seventh MLB game since Boston called him up for his big-league debut on June 9. It gave the Red Sox a 1-0 lead that they never relinquished. Advertisement The Red Sox had won five straight games since Anthony's call-up, including a three-game sweep of the New York Yankees before deciding to trade Devers. Monday marked their sixth straight win to improve to 38-36 and further improve their standing in the AL playoff race. Questions will continue to swirl around why exactly Boston chose to deal Devers as its season was starting to point up. But Red Sox fans can at least look forward to watching Anthony.

Napoli interested in Man City star Jack Grealish but cannot match his wages
Napoli interested in Man City star Jack Grealish but cannot match his wages Napoli are considering a summer swoop for Manchester City attacker Jack Grealish, according to The Telegraph. Napoli manager Antonio Conte is an admirer of the England international, and the Serie A champions could move for the out-of-favour 29-year-old. Advertisement Grealish was not in the squad for Man City's FA Cup final loss to Crystal Palace and did not make the cut for their FIFA Club World Cup campaign. Grealish's £100 million move to the Etihad Stadium has been a disappointment, and the curtain is closing on his uneventful time at the club. The former Aston Villa man is looking for a new stomping ground, and Napoli might be his next destination, although his massive wages could prove a stumbling block. Grealish reportedly earns around £300,000, which is asking a lot of Napoli. The Partenopei will be looking to Man City to cover half of his salary in a potential loan deal, even though the Premier League club prefers an outright sale. Advertisement Napoli sold Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain in the winter transfer window and never properly replaced him. Grealish is a like-for-like Kvaratskhelia replacement who would bolster Napoli's bid to defend their Serie A crown. Napoli have wasted no time strengthening their squad as they prepare to compete in the UEFA Champions League and deliver a better title defence than they did in 2023/24. A move for Grealish could spell the end of their interest in Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho. The four-time Scudetto winners were keen on his services and reportedly even made an offer to the Red Devils, which was rejected. Advertisement If Napoli sign Grealish, there might not be room for another left-sided attacker on the roster. Elsewhere, Napoli are closing in on AC Milan midfielder Yunus Musah and Bologna defender Sam Beukema ahead of next season.

Man United omit Antony and Jadon Sancho from printing list for new shirt but include Marcus Rashford
Man United omit Antony and Jadon Sancho from printing list for new shirt but include Marcus Rashford Manchester United have omitted Antony and Jadon Sancho from the list of players' names available to be printed on the back of the Red Devils' new home shirt for next season. But, interestingly, the club chose to include Marcus Rashford, despite the 27-year-old forward having spent the second half of last season on loan away from Old Trafford alongside Antony and Sancho. Advertisement Last week, United officially unveiled their new home kit for the 2025/26 campaign, adorned with a theme honouring the Theatre of Dreams. 20 players' names are 'currently listed on the United Store website for a customised shirt,' the Manchester Evening News reports. But, despite the fact that both Antony and Sancho are set to return from their loan moves with Real Betis and Chelsea respectively, neither 25-year-old winger made the cut. However, Antony's name is available as an option on the Adidas website, the club's sponsor and shirt creator, but then so are Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans, and Victor Lindelof – three players who are set to be released this month. Advertisement Sancho's squad number at Old Trafford – no.25 – was taken by Manuel Ugarte after the English winger joined Chelsea on loan last summer. An buy clause was included in the deal but the West London side agreed to pay a £5 million penalty fee to annul the obligation. This may be the reason why Sancho's name was not included in either United's list nor Adidas'. But then Rashford's squad number – the esteemed no.10 – has been entrusted to new signing Matheus Cunha, further confusing matters. All three players – Rashford, Sancho, and Antony – are expected to leave Old Trafford this summer regardless of their inclusion or exclusion from pre-season formalities. United are hoping to buttress their transfer budget with sales as Ruben Amorim seeks to implement a comprehensive overhaul of his first-team squad following the club's worst season in the Premier League era. Advertisement Cunha, 26, has already been captured from Wolverhampton Wanders for £62.5 million while a proposal worth £55 million was tabled for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo. It was rejected by the Bees, but United are expected to return with an improved offer for the Cameroon international. A new number nine is also considered an urgent priority while reinforcements in goal and central midfield are also on the agenda if finances permit. This is why permanent exits for the three unwanted forwards, along with 20-year-old winger Alejandro Garnacho, are high on the agenda for Old Trafford executives, regardless of how many shirts they may sell this summer.
