Brown at the double as Glory stun Western United 3-0
Glory entered Friday night's match in Perth needing a win to keep their faint finals hopes alive.
A double from Kelli Brown and a late penalty to the returning Susan Phonsongkham got the job done, lifting Glory back to within six points of the sixth-placed Mariners.

United remain in fourth spot for the time being on 26 points.
But given fifth-placed Roar (25 points), sixth-placed Mariners (24 points) and seventh-placed Canberra (24 points) have all played two fewer games than them, Western are now in grave danger of suffering a big slide down the table.
Brown opened the scoring in the 14th minute after latching on to a perfectly-weighted pass from Sarah O'Donoghue before squeezing the ball home.
Chloe Logarzo almost equalised for Western, only for her powerful strike to rebound off the woodwork.
Glory goalkeeper Casey Dumont then pulled off a stunning save to deny Isabel Dehakiz's dipping strike.
United's hopes of snaring a result nosedived dramatically in the 70th minute when defender Julia Sardo was red carded for taking down goalward-bound Megan Wynne from behind.
Brown scored her second goal of the match in the 81st minute, and she had Western United goalkeeper Chloe Lincoln to thank for it.
Lincoln fumbled Brown's weak initial attempt, with the Glory attacker pouncing on the loose ball to tap into an open net.
It was party time in the 86th minute when a handball in the box from Western United resulted in Phonsongkham nailing a goal from the spot.

It marked a successful and joyous return for Phonsongkham, who was playing her first match since suffering a serious ankle injury six months ago in the NPL Victoria grand final.

Phillies Predicted To Demote Young Pitcher When Jose Alvarado Returns
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The entire Philadelphia Phillies season was flipped on its head earlier in the year when closer Jose Alvarado was suspended for 80 games and the postseason following a failed drug test. The Phillies responded by trading for closer Jhoan Duran to take Alvarado's place, but now, the star lefty is nearing a big league return. FanSided's Zachary Rotman recently suggested the Phillies could option Max Lazar to Triple-A when Alvarado returns from suspension in the near future. ARLINGTON, TEXAS - AUGUST 08: Max Lazar #60 of the Philadelphia Phillies pitches during the ninth inning against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field on August 08, 2025 in Arlington, Texas. ARLINGTON, TEXAS - AUGUST 08: Max Lazar #60 of the Philadelphia Phillies pitches during the ninth inning against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field on August 08, 2025 in Arlington, Texas."All of a sudden, the Phillies' bullpen has gone from a weakness to a potential strength. Jose Alvarado's return from the restricted list is bound to only make that strength even stronger," Rotman wrote. "Alvarado won't be on the team's postseason roster, and there are questions about how he'll perform after his PED suspension, but he'll get a chance to pitch down the stretch for the Phillies regardless, forcing Philadelphia to send someone down. Max Lazar is an easy candidate to be that guy. "Lazar is one of four Phillies relievers who can be optioned, and Philadelphia won't be demoting any of Jhoan Duran, Orion Kerkering or Tanner Banks to make room for Alvarado. Sending him down is the easiest and most logical move they can make when Alvarado is ready to go on August 19." Lazar is the obvious move to make when Alvarado returns. The righty isn't going to win the World Series for the Phillies, and he has options left on his contract. He's a solid innings-eater with a bright future in the big leagues, but the Phillies need as many high-leverage arms as possible in their bullpen. Lazar doesn't fit that mold as of now. It should be expected, barring an unforeseen injury, that Lazar ends the season in Triple-A. More MLB: Yankees Aaron Boone Provides Critical Aaron Judge Injury Update

Did Boston Celtics point guard legend Bob Cousy just challenge Celtics star Jaylen Brown?
Did Hall of Fame Boston Celtics point guard Bob Cousy just challenge Celtics star forward Jaylen Brown? In an interview with the so-called Hardwood Houdini himself on his 97th birthday, Cooz let it slip that he thinks that Brown is not quite on the level of costar on the wing Jayson Tatum, and that the St. Louis native being injured means that Brown is not going to be able to lead the Celtics back to the NBA finals in so many words. Some fans of the team took that commentary as a slight against the Georgia native. Others saw the words as a refreshing admission of where Boston is as a roster, given the front office has traded away or let walk in free agency a substantial part of the 2024 title core. The hosts of the CLNS Media "First to the Floor" podcast, Jake Issenberg, Ben Vallis, and Wayne Spooney, took some time on a recent episode of their show to talk it over. Check it out below! Berrios has a 5.71 ERA in his last 7 GS, and his history against the Cubs has been bad. But I LEAN BLUE JAYS (-125), who are 38-19 at home this season. Run line/Against the spread Give me SEIYA SUZUKI OVER 1.5 H+R+RBIs (-145). He's one of the few Cubs hitters that hasn't been in the tank this month with a .280 BA and .424 OBP. He's also 3-for-5 lifetime off of Berrios. Over/Under It's expected to be 81 degrees with an 11-mph breeze blowing out to right-center. Both starters have struggled of late.
