Earlier in the offseason, the Denver Broncos added depth to their tight end room in the form Cole Fotheringham, who impressed the team during a tryout at rookie minicamp.

His stay with the franchise lasted just over a month, as the Broncos released him on Tuesday. That was until they brought him back into the fold in a second formal transaction in four days, placing him on injured reserve after he cleared waivers on Friday.
According to Broncos Wire's Jon Heath, Fotheringham will spend the entirety of the 2025 season on the Broncos' injury reserve list unless he reaches an injury settlement and is released from the team again.
In a subsequent transaction, the Broncos signed Caden Prieskorn as an undrafted free agent. Prieskorn, who played college football at Memphis and Ole Miss, previously participated in the Detroit Lions' rookie minicamp but was cut at its conclusion.

Fotheringham's professional football career began in 2022, when he was signed by the Las Vegas Raiders as an undrafted free agent. He spent that season on the Raiders' practice squad after not making the team's final 53-man roster cut.

Fotheringham's 2023 campaign nearly mirrored that of the year before, but he was elevated to the Raiders' active roster for two games. He recorded his lone professional reception – a six-yard catch on a pass from quarterback Aidan O'Connell – in his NFL debut against the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas Day.
For the second straight offseason, Fotheringham signed a reserve/future contract with the Raiders, but he was once again released before the regular season began. In 2024, he had stints on both the Houston Texans' and Raiders' practice squads, but he was not elevated to the active roster at any point that year.

Sovereignty wins the 157th running of the Belmont Stakes

Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty galloped to victory in muddy conditions at the 157th Belmont Stakes in Saratoga Springs, New York, on Saturday in the third leg of the Triple Crown. Sovereignty, who entered the race with 2-to-1 odds, defeated a field of seven challengers. Journalism finished in second place. The race marked a kind of replay of the Derby, in which Sovereignty finished in first and Journalism was the runner-up. Journalism had entered as the heavy favorite after winning the Preakness. Derby third-place finisher Baeza was also in the field of eight. Journalism was the only horse who ran in all three legs of the Triple Crown this year. Bob Baffert-trained Rodriguez was in the Belmont after being scratched from the Derby because of a minor foot bruise that also kept the colt out of the Preakness. The Belmont took place for a second consecutive time at the historic Saratoga Race Course in upstate New York. The New York Racing Association temporarily relocated it there while Belmont Park on Long Island undergoes nearly half-a-billion dollars in renovations. This is a developing story and will be updated.

USMNT falls to Turkey 2-1 in friendly for their 3rd consecutive loss

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — Turkey took advantage of a sloppy defense to beat the United States 2-1 in a rainy friendly on Saturday, dealing the Americans their third straight loss as Arda Güler and Kerem Aktürkoğlu scored in a 2-minute, 20-second span midway through the first half. Jack McGlynn scored 59 seconds in for the U.S., which was missing many regulars as coach Mauricio Pochettino revamped his roster following a dismal performance at the CONCACAF Nations League final four in March. With a year to go before co-hosting the World Cup, the U.S. plays Switzerland on Tuesday at Nashville, Tenn., in another friendly, then opens the CONCACAF Gold Cup against Trinidad and Tobago on June 15. The Americans dropped to 5-4 under Pochettino, who took over after first-round elimination last year's Copa America led the U.S. Soccer Federation to fire coach Gregg Berhalter. They have lost three straight for the second time in a year. Pochettino changed eight starters from the Nations League loss to Canada in March, keeping only left back Max Arfsten, winger Diego Luna and forward Patrick Agyemang. Defender Alex Freeman, a 20-year-old son of former NFL All-Pro receiver Antonio Freeman, started in his U.S. debut. Matt Freese, a starter for Major League Soccer's New York City, made his debut in goal. Matt Turner, the usual starter since 2022, didn't play for Crystal Palace after March 1. McGlynn scored when he ran onto a pass from Malik Tilman, took several touches, cut inside and curled a left-footed shot from just outside the penalty area inside the far post for his second goal in five international appearances. It was the earliest U.S. goal since Shaq Moore scored 20 seconds in against Canada during the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Turkey tied it in the 24th minute when Freese tapped the ball to Johnny Cardoso, whose pass ricocheted off a leg and past Freese for Güler's fifth international goal. Then in the 27th, Miles Robinson tried to clear Oğuz Aydın's shot and the ball went to Aktürkoğlu, who one-timed a bouncing shot past Freese for his 12th international goal and sixth in eight games. Turkey goalkeeper Berke Özer also made his international debut. Preparing for the start of its World Cup qualifying campaign in September, Turkey has six wins, one loss and one draw in its last eight games.

Coastal Carolina sweeps Auburn to reach College World Series for 2nd time

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Jacob Morrison and Hayden Johnson combined to scatter eight hits and Coastal Carolina defeated Auburn 4-1 on Saturday to sweep the Auburn Super Regional and reach the College World Series for the second time. The Chanticleers will try to duplicate the national championship they won in 2016. Morrison allowed one run on six hits with six strikeouts in six innings. Johnson (5-0) came on in the seventh and pitched three scoreless innings with two hits and five strikeouts. Coastal Carolina's three-run seventh inning featured an RBI single by Walker Mitchell and a series of Auburn miscues led to the other two runs. With the scored tied 1-1 after Mitchell's single, he moved up a base on a single by Blagen Pado and scored from second on a throwing error by the first baseman on a ball hit by Ty Dooley. A walk by Ty Barrango loaded the bases and Coastal's third run scored when Wells Sykes was hit by a pitch. Mitchell drove in the final run with a single in the eighth inning. Cade Fisher (1-3) was on the mound in the sloppy seventh inning and allowed three runs, one earned, in 2 2/3 innings. Caden Bodine's 10th-inning home run early Saturday morning gave the Chanticleers a 7-6 victory in the first game. The Tigers played in the super regional round for the fifth time. They advanced to the College World Series in two of their previous four appearances. ___ AP college sports:
