Colin Cowherd says Browns will draft Arch Manning and hire Nick Saban next year

USA Today24-07-2025
Before any of the four quarterbacks on the Cleveland Browns' roster have even gotten the chance to win the starting job, Fox Sports' Colin Cowherd thinks the team is already all-in on a replacement for whoever that ends up being – and possibly one for head coach Kevin Stefanski, too.
During Wednesday's episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, the show's host revealed what he described as 'the worst kept secret in the South': Browns owner Jimmy Haslam is infatuated with Texas quarterback Arch Manning, and he believes the Browns could not only select Manning in the 2026 NFL Draft, but use that selection to lure former Alabama coach Nick Saban to Cleveland. Citing Saban's connections to both Jimmy Haslam and the Manning family, Cowherd believes Saban could be enticed to return to the NFL by the right quarterback, comparing the situation to the Los Angeles Chargers' hiring Jim Harbaugh last offseason.
While Cowherd certainly isn't the first person to connect Manning to the Browns, his suggestion that Saban will replace Stefanski, who is just a season removed from winning his second NFL Coach of the Year award, is a new one.
Hear Cowherd's full reasoning here:
Saban does have a personal history with the Browns, as he served as the defensive coordinator on Bill Belichick's staff in Cleveland from 1991 to 1994. It's unclear, however, if the seven-time National Championship-winning coach wants to return to the sidelines at all, especially in the NFL; his only previous experience as an NFL head coach, a two-year stint with the Dolphins in 2005-06, resulted in a 15-17 record and zero playoff appearances. Saban began his phenomenal run with the Crimson Tide immediately after leaving Miami.
While the Browns do hold two picks in the first round of next year's draft, numerous reports this offseason have indicated that Manning is likely to remain at Texas beyond 2025. While there's plenty of hype surrounding the former five-star recruit, he has started just two games for the Longhorns and thrown 95 passes to this point. Manning has two years of eligibility left after this season.
Regardless of how much Cowherd believes Cleveland may like the redshirt sophomore, the team may have to look elsewhere next spring if they're determined to get their quarterback of the future.

Browns K Dustin Hopkins looking to rebound in 2025 season

Browns K Dustin Hopkins looking to rebound in 2025 season originally appeared on The Sporting News During the 2022 (L.A. Chargers) and 2023 (Cleveland Browns) seasons, Dustin Hopkins was nearly perfect with a make percentage over 90%. During the 2023 Browns season, Hopkins made 8 of 10 on kicks over 50 yards and became a lethal weapon. Then during the 2024 offseason, he signed a three-year extension worth $15.9 million, and it all went downhill. Last year, Hopkins only made 66.7% of his kicks, which included only four of eight from 50-plus and three missed extra points. Even though last season there were talks about cutting him, he appears to be getting back to form as he kicked a game-winner in practice on Monday. We don't usually hear a ton on kickers out of camp, but seeing him get confidence early should only help his season get off to a better start than last year. Hopkins will be dealing with a short fuse by fans, and a few costly kicks missed at the beginning of the season could easily cost him his job.

Why Jaguars' depth chart reveal was great Travis Hunter fantasy news

The Jacksonville Jaguars currently find themselves in untrodden territory. The team invested quite a bit in moving up to select Travis Hunter at No. 2 in the 2025 NFL draft, and it took the reigning Heisman Trophy winner with the intent to turn him into the NFL's first regular two-way player in more than 60 years. Hunter played most snaps at both receiver and cornerback in college at Colorado, but as of now, it's not exactly clear how the Jaguars intend to use him as a rookie in 2025. However, we may have gotten a bit more clarity as the team released its first depth chart of the season amid training camp. On the depth chart, Hunter is listed as a starting receiver alongside Brian Thomas Jr. and free agent addition Dyami Brown. Meanwhile, he is listed among the second-string cornerbacks, behind starters Tyson Campbell and Jourdan Lewis. That would seemingly indicate that Hunter is going to see the bulk of his snaps on offense, at least to start, and that is certainly a boon for fantasy football managers with Hunter on their team. Hopes are high for the Jaguars' offense in 2025 as the team is now led by Liam Coen, one of the NFL's top offensive coordinators last season. With Coen, a healthy Trevor Lawrence and Thomas, who starred as a rookie last season, this could be a productive unit with Hunter poised to benefit, as well. The only major concern for fantasy managers would be that Hunter's usage on defense could siphon critical snaps away on offense and limit his fantasy production. We'll have to see how Hunter is used when the Jags take the field in preseason for the first time against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday, but the team seems to be indicating that fantasy managers can rest easily and most of Hunter's early contributions will be on the offensive side of the ball. Mike Vrabel responds to Terry McLaurin and Micah Parsons buzz

New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel would not comment on the team potentially pursuing Washington Commanders All-Pro wide receiver Terry McLaurin or Dallas Cowboys All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons. Parsons recently requested a trade after failing to agree on a contract extension with the Cowboys. McLaurin, who failed to agree on an extension with the Commanders, also voiced his desire to be traded. The Patriots still have major needs at edge rusher and wide receiver. Whether it's McLaurin or Parsons, one would think they'd be interested in the possibility of filling either one of those two positions with one of the best players in the game. Parsons is coming off a 2024 campaign that saw him tally 43 combined tackles, 12 sacks and two forced fumbles. Meanwhile, McLaurin hauled in 82 catches for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns. 'I'm not going to comment on players that are under contract on other teams. Let's focus on the ones that are here that we're working with," said Vrabel. Both players would significantly upgrade either side of the ball for the Patriots. One has to wonder how real the possibility of a trade is at the moment. The Commanders are set to visit Gillette Stadium this week for a joint practice on Wednesday and a preseason game on Friday. It could create a real opportunity for the Patriots to check in on McLaurin. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.
